This is Sony’s ninth generation video game console and the follow up to the ps4. This time Sony offers a true 4K gaming console. The unit comes with the console, an hdmi cable, 1 dual sense controller and the power cable plus instructions. Set up is fairly straight forward however your tv determines a lot. First it needs to be 4K compatible. Also the ps5 has settings that only work if your tv has that. Something like vrr (variable refresh rate). So a high end tv maybe a Sony 4K Bravia is a must. Ps5 itself for almost all games offers different graphics modes. Usually a 4K option at 30 fps or a performance mode that has upscale 4 k at 60 fps. It is user preference. The haptic feedback it gives in the triggers is a great feature. The controller is very comfortable for me. There are higher end controllers available but the system doesn’t come with it. Overall it is a nice system. It is a noticeable bump in graphics and performance over last gen. The performance mode can make things run smooth and truly look next gen. Some of the internal menus looked recycled from ps4 which kind of makes this look like a mid gen refresh, I wouldn’t have done that personally but it will be familiar to ps4 users. Cooling is essential so be sure to keep the system in a good ventilated area. The console has a fan and internal Liquid Metal cooling but even still at least 4-5 inches clearance is recommended.

A longtime PlayStation fan, I had been putting off getting a PS5 until the three following milestones occurred: 1) a reduction in size of the console 2) a reduction in the price of the console 3) a reduction in the price of games for the console I thought that the introduction of the PS5 Slim last fall would spur my purchase, but Sony didn't cut the price, and even older PS5 games were still selling for $70. But finally, during the Days of Play event this spring, Sony knocked $50 off the console's price -- I didn't want the Spiderman or COD bundles, not my favorite games -- and I decided to act. Four years is a LONG time to wait to play a new RC title, after all! So here are my thoughts on the PS5, now that's in my house: 1) Setup is remarkably easy, including ... But finally, during the Days of Play event this spring, Sony knocked $50 off the console's price -- I didn't want the Spiderman or COD bundles, not my favorite games -- and I decided to act. Four years is a LONG time to wait to play a new RC title, after all! So here are my thoughts on the PS5, now that's in my house: 1) Setup is remarkably easy, including wirelessly transferring game save information from a PS4. It did take me a while to figure out how to turn off the female voice heralding all my actions (under Accessibility options). 2) The PS5 runs like a champ. So far, I have not been aware of any fan noises or clouds of warm air exhaust spewing out. 3) The DualSense controllers had weaker rumble than I expected. It turns out that the rumble motors default to the "weak" setting if you have the controller's microphone enabled. I turned off the mike, and the rumble was back at full force, but with more finesse than that experienced with the PS4's DUALSHOCK controllers. If I'm not mistaken, the precision of the DS controller actually seems to improve my game scores... 4) The new user interface is kind of a mess. In particular, leaving the POWER button off the Home page was a boneheaded move. One of my first issues with the new console was -- how do I turn this bloody beast OFF??? I wish that the controller battery gauge was on the Home page as well. 5) It was a brilliant idea making the disk drive detachable. The one problem I had with my PS4 involved the machine's failure to read disks after a few years, which I am guessing was an issue of a dirty reading head; I sent the console to Sony to be fixed, and it came back working perfectly in one week. Now I assume I can just repair or replace the removable drive without sending in the entire console for repair... 6) Now that the PS5 packs 1 TB of memory, I was wondering how soon I would need to add more memory. Currently, I have plenty of memory to switch back and forth between a number of games, including Ratchet Clank Rift Apart, plus several from the PS4, including WRC Generations, Far Cry 6, and Resident Evil 4, as well as the Pinball Arcade. One good reason I wanted the disk version of the PS5 was to minimize the size of game downloads to preserve memory. 7) The audio/video performance of the PS5 to play back DVD's and Blu-Rays is outstanding. And I was happy to find that the excellent Bluetooth PDP media controller I got for the PS4 works with the PS5 as well. Yea -- that made me feel better about spending $30 for the PS5's vertical stand instead! 8) And some of the PS5 titles are FINALLY coming down in price: Rift Apart and the latest Star Wars game, for example -- two AAA titles -- are now available for a far more affordable $30. So if you have been putting off upgrading to a PS5, it may be time at last to make the move, provided you can catch a special promotion. And to those who say, "Game consoles' days are numbered," I say -- as long as many of us prefer to play games sitting on a couch, enveloped in booming 3D sound and watching our dazzling big-screen TV's -- long live PlayStation consoles -- especially those that serve as a 2-in-1 machine, with built-in (or detachable) disk drives that also play DVD's and BR's!

I do love the console, though. I use it and my series x (again, got super lucky again, but on wally morts website that time) about the same amount. The ps5 is indistinguishable verses the series X in terms of power that I’ve seen. They’re both powerful consoles and outshine my aging 1070ti pc by a ton (that’s been the hardest to upgrade for me). The UI is a fresh look and functional enough. I like the store is just there to select when you feel and it doesn’t have to “load” the store like on ps4 and ps3. I like that it has a pull up *task* bar, for lack of better words, that you can quickly pull up and make on the fly adjustments to the sound control, accounts, etc. The best upgrade are the new controllers, imo. Haptic feedback is a neat feature, though honestly not a deal breaker if games don’t utilize it. It’s cool to feel different guns in games have different trigger feel/pull. My favorite part is the size and shape redesign. Fits my semi larger hands much better, but my 11 year old has no issues, either. It just feels better, if you know what I mean. The one downside I’ve found here is battery life. Absolutely a downgrade verses the PS4 controllers. The ssd is fast and does a good job. The only downside, and it’s kinda big, is the super specific drive you have to buy if you want to upgrade the internal drive. They’re crazy expensive, much like the series X, but more so. Who knows how long we have to wait to see larger than 1TB affordable drives that will work. The console itself is a chonker, so make sure you have the space for ventilation. Not a huge fan of the design, but you can see the design and make your own decision.

I was forced to upgrade after the HDD up my Playstation 4 died. Other things seemed to be going wrong with the PS4, too, like the disc drive wasn't able to read game discs sometimes.Maybe Sony just puts cheap blu-ray drives into these things, because right out of the box, the PS5 is already struggling to read discs, too. I think they want people to buy all-digital games nowadays, which is more convenient, but there's a whole host of ownership and consumer rights legal problems with that I'm not comfortable with.Even if you want digital games, the hard drive on this thing is pitiful. I'd filled it all the way up to max in barely three days. You can plug external HDDs in, but good luck finding space or power for that, and that's going to be another $50-$100 on top ... You can plug external HDDs in, but good luck finding space or power for that, and that's going to be another $50-$100 on top of this $500 console.By default, the console is also always recording video of your gameplay. Whatever internal storage is in this device is going to get worn out quickly -- this is what killed my Playstation 4, afterall, and with this being an SSD, it might die of old age even faster than the PS4 did. I'm sure Sony loves the idea of planned obsolescence though.Menus on the device are better in some ways and worse in others. One step back is that the Playstation 5 no longer lets you sort games into folders. You just have to scroll through a giant list of whatever's available until you find what you want to play. It's nice you get PS5 versions of a lot of PS4 games but the system to handle that is frustrating. Not all PS5 games can see PS4 save data, so there are a few games where loading up the enhanced PS5 version makes me start over from the beginning of the game. Other games are weird about it -- Spider-man 1 made me upload my PS4 save file to the cloud and then download it in the PS5 version, and Sonic Frontiers PS5 could load my PS4 save just fine but it didn't carry over any of my unlock progress. Also the device is just ugly as heck. It's shaped weirdly, sticks out like a sort thumb, and doesn't really serve any purpose besides being an eyesore. But the games look nice and load very quickly, so at least there's that. At $70 per game, they'd better.
I have always been a gamer from when the 3ds was released up to the play station 5 and I have to say that it is just about perfectNow when it first came out it was simply hard to believe that a console for $399 can compete with a twelve hundred dollar pc. The graphics card and gpu make this console run smoother than any previous console. Not only that but compared to the previous gen the play station 4 the fan is just about as silent as it gets.Sony has always been known for the great effort that they put into the play station exclusive game and that is absolutely no exception in this case. The older play station exclusive game on the play station 5 such as god of war ragnarok have absolutely perfect graphics and capitalize on the play station 5s performanceNow to say this gen of gaming is an improvement is an understatement mainly due to the fact that the graphics had a very big jump and that the new gen can now finally support 120 frames per second and pair well with most 120 hertz monitors and tvs.I would say that my only complaints would be sony's pricing because companies such as microsoft are able to offer a bit more for less when it comes to most things gaming related and that is simply because sony does not have nearly the same budget as microsoft.Really in the end here I would say that the ps5 Is a really solid option for someone who can't afford a pc but when it comes down to playstation versus xbox it's all preference.

The console was thrown in the box with some bubble wrap placed at the bottom of the box and loosely placed on top of the console, but not wrapped around the console for protection. The controller and cords were shipped together in a plastic ziplock bag. Not much padding g was provided to prevent the items from moving in the box during shipping. Also, the stand that is usually included with brand new units to support the console standing vertically or horizontally WAS NOT included. I had to purchase a stand.Had it not been for the missing stand and the packaging (or lack thereof), this would have been a 5-Star review. For the price and overall condition of the item I would recommend this purchase, but it will not provide that “new console” feeling you would expect from the “Open Box-Excellent Condition” description.
The Ps5 is an amazing console. It’s fast, looks cool, and an overall great console. I love the haptic feedback on the Ps5 controller not to mention the touchpad on the top. I also want to mention the lights in the controller that react to what’s going on in the game. I just wish the lights on the console weren’t just white all the time. I wish they would react to what’s going on in the game just like the controller does. Other than that the console is great for someone who loves gaming. I use it all the time so I love how I can use it nonstop for about 5 hours until it starts overheating. Which I shouldn’t even be playing video games for 5 hours straight. I love how the controller needs to be charged by a cord and not charged by AA batteries. I like the fact that ... MoreThe Ps5 is an amazing console. I love how the controller needs to be charged by a cord and not charged by AA batteries. I like the fact that when I’m done playing, I can just plug it in and it be ready for tomorrow. Also the fact that I can plug it in and it will charge while I’m playing video games at the same time. I do wish it came with more storage due to the size of video games nowadays but almost a terabyte of storage is great for me because I only play a couple of games at a time.Sony really went all out on this console and it’s a great way to escape from the real world and just play your favorite games with your friends for hours on end. I would 100% recommend this to anyone trying to upgrade while not spending a fortune on an entire pc. I also love to mention the fact that the Ps5 comes with a stand that you can stand the Ps5 up on, or sit it on its side without worrying it’s going to get scratched. It’s a great product.
Simply put, I love my PS5! First of all, Best Buy's shipment of my system arrived quickly and without any hassle at all. I got Final Fantasy XVI for my birthday and now playing it on the new system. The console loads games from start to the title screen within 3 seconds! The games don't even have loading times at all, feels like playing the Super Nintendo again, haha. Yes, they finally got the instantaneous loading right once again.Of course, the graphics are beautiful, truly modern technology at its best. At $500, you could never buy a computer rig to match its capabilities. The PS5 is very quiet and never revs up like a jet engine (PS4 Pro old models), even during intense combat scenes. So I suspect the cooling system is great. I put the system flat or horizontal because electronics just work better that way. Plus, it'll be good for the console in the long run. You should do the same if you're reading this review. I've been a technician for these consoles since the first Playstation! The controller has weight to it and feels very premium. Haptic feedback is interesting...it actually pushes against your finger when using the R2 or L2 button. The battery life is a little short, but you can mess with it by turning the indicator light on the controller to low as possible to help with that. I like this Dual Sense controller, definitely an improvement over the Dual Shock 4 or past generations.I haven't played online yet (have not done so since the PS3), but I'm sure the online coop/multiplayer is great compared to the Playstation 3 era. Overall, a fantastic buy, highly recommended if you're thirsting for the latest in console gaming!
