Using Online Capable Game Consoles...seems like Online & Offline Gaming is being observed.Unpleasent..., because that is like observing for learning tips & to increase Difficulty to interfere with typical Gaming. Not Liking That...especially being observed while gaming...does not sound pleasent to have someone actively sabotaging your gameplay to give you unnecessary stress-from upon eventually develops Health Issues...especially when things seem to become more difficult than they typically are...like Nonplayable Characters are being remote controlled for added difficulty.MEH.Has built-in Memory Card Space for each Game...I am liking that, because the Playstation's appearence is just For Show [FOR SHOW...Meaning...to be focused on Appearences Specifically, but not quite what that might appear to be represented as].There seems to be Several many Save Spaces made Available...somewhere between 24 Save-Space-ports...then there shows an opposite side on same screen...insinuating there is another potential 24 Save-Space-ports...so possibly 48 Save-Space-ports per Game on Said PS Game Console. Each game has a separate Save-Space-Port called a Resume Point [Like Auto Save on Checkpoints].So each Game on Said Game Console has a Guides Connection near the Memory Card Slot. Presumably why that requires an Online Capable Game Console connection to Function appropriately. For that is Linking Guides through the Internet...probably through Official Playstation Networking Channels on Legitimate Pro-Gaming Guides for Said Video Game.Qualities of Said Games are Like Original Releases...with Hi-Definition Link-Up...meaning Clearer Imaging...and Possible Touch-Ups [Touch-Ups...meaning Added Materials and Such].Each Game has a Controlled Pre-Set made available [Meaning...you have the Option to keep Settings Customized and kept in-play Outside of Saved Games. Playstation classic is fun but disappointing for a few reasons. Reason number one is the lack of legendary games such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Gran Turismo. But there are some pretty good ones such as Grand Theft Auto, Intelligence Qube, Tekken 3, and Twisted Metal.Another reason is the ridiculous cable length, which isn't as appalling as the cable for the NES classic, but still annoying and makes the console hard to play on a couch with a big screen TV. Hasn't Sony heard of Bluetooth? Also why are most of the games European versions? And why no AC adapter?I love the small design of the console, if only the disc tray was able to be opened. I am fine with the lack of analog sticks, as they make the controller look like the original Dualshock, and is not really a annoyance like the wires. (They could have at least made the wires longer, geez)What my point is, if you are not a big PS fan, or have the original PS1, then stay away as far as possible. If you are willing to accept the faults of the console, you might find some enjoyment out of it like I did, even though some of the cons kinda annoy me to this day. You can't deny the game are exciting and fun anyway. I can understand why this console is getting so much hate though, Sony could have made this amazing or at least make the games available for PS4, but they choose to make an very imperfect console instead.

For the price that was paid, not too bad.Overall it was a good purchase, at the current price, but if Sony decides to do something similar with PS2, please take note of all of the feedback that buyers are giving you and use them.

Otherwise, I’d suggest getting a pair of 8bitdo Bluetooth receivers for those who can keep track of them. Those receivers can be bought, here, and I got two, on Lightning Deals, for $13/ea. However, that’s not with controllers, but I can use whatever BT controllers I want (I use PS3s or 4s, but my bud has and likes X-styled ones, which are no problem, either, minus their integrity).Seriously, though. Check out some stuff , on YouTube, and as much as is being done, with the PSClassic, to modify it, with software (see page 3 of the manual, for “authorization to modify,*” YOUR PSC), it has become an UNMATCHED deal, at $20, for an SBC (Single Board Computer). As compared to a Raspberry Pi 3B+, a very popular SBC, for emulating old games and can’t run the ($35, for computer board, alone, with easily another $20 - $60 of accessories, to put it in a case and get it running... The PSClassic** has a 1.5ghz processor with 1GB DDR3 (faster than DDR2) RAM and a 16GB Solid State-type flash storage memory, as compared to the RPI 3B+’s 1.4ghz processor.*NOTE; Many states in the US have already adopted “right to repair laws,” so,that one can modify one’s OWNED equipment, as one see fit, or one can take the machine to a local repair shop (kinda useless, at $20, but... ) to have it fixed. If you’d like to be able to fix (or to have fixed, without going to the company (to pay $$$$$$ for, perhaps, the same thing...) please do what you can, to help get “right to repair “ laws passed, in your states, or across the country, through local represent.** The PSClassic needs a USB outlet or adapter, whether a USB wall socket or a USB port, on your TV, that is 5 Watts, @ 1AMP of electricity/resistance (most TV USB ports, especially recently, could most conveniently supply that, through the included USB power cable) supply that amount, and an Amazon FireTV or an average Android Phone comes with that kind of “standard” power (an iPhone/iPad adapter has over 2AMPs, and so check to make sure you can use one of those, safely, with a PSClassic), to power it. It comes with the power *cable* to plug.My total cost, for a Raspberry Pi 3B+ cost about $65 - $70, for a case, cables, microSD card (storage), and power cable/adapter.An NES Classic costs about $75, with included case and cables, a 1.2GHz processor on the SBC, 256MB (PSC = 1GB (4X) of DDR3 on-board memory, and 512MB (PSC = 16GB (32X)) of Solid State NAND Flash (Storage).****** These a basic specs for the various machines, to illustrate their relative capabilities, for the money. When setting up the machines, for your needs, to put it bluntly, there’s a LOT more room to Bleem it out. In turn, that means there are a lot more resources (including speed) available, on the PSClassic, to run more and bigger games — as compared to the other two listed, for a price as low as 1/2 or 1/3 the price...

The PlayStation Classic has well designed hardware and a true PS1 look about it. Unfortunately cheaped out a bit by not including a power supply (there's an HDMI and power cable, just no wall transformer) and the game selection is poor. PAL is a European television standard that updates the screen 50 times a second verse NTSC here in North America which updates at 60 times per second. The way they corrected for this causes a slowdown in these games. Not noticeable to someone who hasn't played them before but noticeable to many old timers.BUT WAIT! There is hope. Everything happens automatically and the PAL games can be replaced by NTSC versions. This makes the game selection be what you want (e.g. adding Crash Bandicoot) as well as allowing you to play NEC, GEO NEO, and other games using the Retroboot game emulation system.I couldn't be happier with my purchase once I made this addition. Just be sure to read up a bit on line to make sure you know exactly what to use and it will be super easy.

It pains me to admit it...

I was so looking forward to the release of the PlayStation Classic that, against my better judgement (I hardly do pre-orders) I ordered as soon as it was available. Then, the leaked and released information came out and I started to worry. However, I continued to have faith that Sony would deliver a gaming experience I was hoping for.Well, the day came and I sadly have to admit that the rumors and reports were true. This is one of the poorest conceptions that Sony has ever implemented. Upon opening the box, the "look" of the console is cute and gives it a "collector's items" sort of feel, which is nice. However, the feeling soon wears out as I noticed that it did not come with a power pack. Just a micro-USB cable and the HDMI cable. So I ended up using a spare phone charger (make sure it is the right voltage).I fired up the console hoping to see a great UI. Unfortunately, it is bare and lackluster. There are no bells or whistles. There are few options (no catscan lines or resolutions, or disk speed, etc.) OK... At least I have the games.I was then even more disappointed by the lineup. Everyone's got favorites they'd like to see, but mostly everyone agrees that it was less than expected. I personally wished they'd included titles such as Parappa the Rapper, Crash Bandicoot (the original mascot!), and Spyro… Well, I immediately went to start my favorite games of the bunch -Metal Gear Solid. Oh boy, to my horror it looked terrible on my 50" 4k TV. Much blockier than I remember. Also, this game works best with vibration so using the "original controller took something away from the experience I remember... Yes, I know that the original res and polygon count was much, much lower, but there was absolutely no effort in making it any better. Even the PSP and VITA did a much better job! I even tried it on a smaller 32" 1080p screen. I then played other favorites such as Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4. Even more horrifying was that they move oh-so-slow! This is because they decided to use Europe's PAL instead of NTSC, lowering the frequency and therefore affecting the "speed" of the game. There's also no chance of updating the firmware or line up (maybe by way of USB, but that's wishful thinking)I really cannot recommend this console at $99.99 at all. If it ever goes below $30USD, maybe I would recommend it, but only as a nostalgia item. Sorry to be so tough on it, but Sony did deserve it this time...

In terms of hardware, the Playstation Classic mostly hits the mark. The detail of the Playstation unit itself is wonderfully rendered and genuinely worth keeping on display . Even the plug ends of the controllers are similar to the originals. It's too bad the controllers weren't based on the Dual Shock controllers, but I'm guessing that would have added even more cost to this device. As for software, this is where Sony really disappointed most fans. The selection is baffling as it includes games in series with much better sequels and/or games that don't really exemplify the best of the Playstation era. A lot of this is possibly due to licensing and possibly even porting issues, but surely Twisted Metal 2 should have been on this system versus the original (and I ... MoreIn terms of hardware, the Playstation Classic mostly hits the mark. A lot of this is possibly due to licensing and possibly even porting issues, but surely Twisted Metal 2 should have been on this system versus the original (and I don't know anyone who clamored for Battle Arena Toshinden to make an appearance). Some games are even the PAL (pre-HD TV European television standard) version, which run slower and at a slightly different resolution than NTSC (used in North America and Japan).Though I have warmer, fuzzier feelings for the NES, SNES, and forthcoming Genesis classic systems, I absolutely loved the Playstation era. The lackluster nature of the PS Classic really saddens me, especially when it's clear that it's a better system when modded versus stock.

Poor Execution and Missed Opportunity

Don't pay more than $20..and I paid 19.99 but debating on getting rid of it. I'm really disappointed in this thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with the selection of games, it's okay. Unfortunately, about half of the games are running European versions of the games instead of US versions, which means they play slower and have really bad frame rate issues not present in the US versions of the game. And honestly even the US games included have really serious frame rate issues, and look choppy and blurry; FF7's got really bad pauses and stutters right at the start. And there's button delay too, where you press a button and when you see it on the screen is just... bad. This thing is essentially a Playstation emulator in a box, but instead of being really good ... MoreDon't pay more than $20..and I paid 19.99 but debating on getting rid of it. You should probably just buy a Playstation 3 for this much money and play Playstation games like that; for the most part, it'd be much much better. And would also be a Playstation 3.Games included: Battle Arena Toshinden (PAL Version), Cool Boarders 2 (PAL Version), Destruction Derby (PAL Version), Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto (PAL Version), Intelligent Qube, Jumping Flash! (PAL Version, not as noticeable as some of the others), Metal Gear Solid, Mr. Driller, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PAL Version), Rayman, Resident Evil Director's Cut (PAL Version, big fail), Revelations: Persona, Ridge Racer Type 4, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Syphon Filter, Tekken 3 (PAL Version), Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (PAL Version), Twisted Metal, Wild Arms

Sony PlayStation Classic

The first thing I noticed was how much thought only put into the packaging. Sony presented this system as its own console with traditional two box packaging (internal box and outer display box) with exposed serial number. Complete with an instruction manual, necessary cables (HDMI and Power) and two controllers, I felt as if I was really unboxing a quality, independent console. The hardware is simple, impressive and makes sense. The two included Sony USB controllers are of quality. The console itself is very small and light. Set up was fast and simple. Sony created this console with a user dashboard which makes game selection and setting up your internal memory cards easy. I believe that the included games will either make or break this purchase for the individual ... MoreThe first thing I noticed was how much thought only put into the packaging. I believe that the included games will either make or break this purchase for the individual buyer. For me personally this purchase was worth it due to the fact that I think that metal gear solid, final fantasy 7, Tekken 3, Syphon Filter and resident evil were some of the greatest games of this generation. Sure it would’ve been nice if Resident Evil 2, Mortal Kombat 4, Grand Turismo and Digimon World and Armored Core were included, but that’s just me. Best Buy had slashed the price of these consoles to $40 each. I bought two.

30 July 2023

When I purchased this item it wasn’t stated that it was a MINI console! I’m so beyond disappointed!!! This is not what I wanted or expected at all!!! This was supposed to be a present for my grandson’s for getting A’s all school year!!! And because they were interested in the original PlayStation because it’s retro. Now I have to disappoint them and that doesn’t sit well with me at all!!!! Never again will I buy a gaming console from here!!!!
