Joyful and Fun Addition to FF7 Story

People completely new to FF7 may feel lost at times. Like the original PS1 game, Rebirth is loaded with mini games, including a new and addicting card game. Some of the open world stuff is repetitive but is structured mostly to get you running around the map and explore. It is not mandatory. This game is a joyful experience from start to finish and there is evident and abundant love for this story and world, these characters, in everything it does. It’s a sharp contrast to the dour and gloomy experience of FF16, which I had played just a few months prior to Rebirth’s release. The colors are bright and vibrant, the music is wonderful, and it remembers that even though this is a serious story, it is okay to be silly (as the original frequently was!). Combat still feels sharp with a few new mechanics. Each party member plays differently and you will be forced into learning each of them. You can choose your party for the open world content but bosses and story segments will frequently restrict you to specific characters. Equipment loadouts are critical to getting through bosses and challenges. It is also worth mentioning that Rebirth is noticeably more difficult than Remake. Especially Hard Mode. While you can ā€œoverlevelā€ to an extent, I got to the final boss at level 50 after completing all normal mode side content and it was still a reasonable challenge that took several attempts to roll credits. You’d be looking at maybe a couple of hours of additional grinding in the second to last chapter to hit 70(max) at that point, but it kills the story momentum and isn’t necessary. There is an easy mode and the game allows you to freely switch to it from normal. New to Rebirth is a dynamic difficulty that will scale things up to your level if you start to feel that you are overleveled in normal. Hard Mode expects you to be max level with highly leveled materia from the start and to know the mechanics and bosses on a deeper level. In Remake’s Hard Mode, this was important but it was more flexible in allowing mistakes or suboptimal equipment. Oftentimes Rebirth’s Hard Mode content is unforgiving. Chapter Select is available postgame and you can either keep or reset side quest progress, so don’t feel anxious about skipping quests on the first play through. I am two legendary combat sim challenges away from the platinum trophy at nearly 200 hours of gameplay. It has been a sincere joy to play, aside from some frustration with the optional Hard Mode content. Eagerly looking forward to the final game in this project!

The main story probably takes 70 hours if you do no side content, and double that if you do. Then double again if you plan on trying to get the platinum trophy. Some of the side content is also incredibly difficult, which for me is a positive as I expect the challenge to be hightended with each new part in the trilogy.

I played the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which can be experienced before diving into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. However, you can skip the Remake and simply watch a recap for Rebirth, though this would save you some money, you'd miss out on the experience. From my perspective, the game evokes nostalgia from the original Final Fantasy 7 released on the first PlayStation console. I appreciate the flexibility this provides.(Minor spoiler): One downside is that two characters from the original game are only briefly featured in the Remake, which feels like a tease. I believe they'll be more prominent in future installments. My opinion on the matter is that I'm not a fan of the game being split into multiple titles for marketing and monetization purposes, but at least there are no microtransactions. The storyline is well-developed, with greater depth than the original. Exploring the open world for the first time in this game is exhilarating, but the game can still feel linear during cave battles. Combat is fast-paced, and the classic mode allows for strategic thinking.A mental note: Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth differs significantly from the Remake in terms of weapon leveling. If you plan on playing the Remake before Rebirth, keep in mind that the leveling mechanics are quite different.

The characters are developed further and are a joy to watch and play due to the engaging interactions and synergy they have between each other in cutscenes and gameplay. The combat system is a step-up from FFVII Remake, with air-combat being improved and the new synergy moves being both flashy and effective as they open up more options in battle. The music is also stellar as expected, although so far I'm unsure if it tops Remake's soundtrack and other FF OSTs. And not to mention the grand amount of minigames that is so much fun, with almost all of them being optional to play.Speaking of, a lot of things are optional, so you can focus on the main story and not do much exploration or not play a majority of minigames if you want. The story so far is interesting to follow, and it does answer some questions from FFVII Remake, but will probably leave even more questions by the end. For now, the narrative is coherent enough and follows many story beats from OG FFVII.As a Final Fantasy fan, this is one of the best FF games and it's going to be quite the task to top this game when the final part of the FFVII Remake trilogy arrives.

I have been waiting for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for years and I actually just beat it and loved it so much. The story follows the party and their quest to stop sephiroth and unlike the first one, FF7:Remake, this one isn't just one city. You explore multiple cities and even different continents. The amount of detail they've poured into this portion from the original Final fantasy 7 blew my mind. Seeing old characters, towns, and enemies reimagined in big way hits hard in my nostalgia and on top of that the music is on another level compared to anything else of this size. In the open areas of this game there are so many minor tasks that are repeated in other open areas and they don't feel needed and just in the game to pad it out hour wise. The rewards are good like interesting lore and new items only available through these tasks. The way i will recommend friends to play this is to only do the major side quests and focus on the story because it's a great story but theres a lot of bloat that could turn off many people if they aren't as invested.

Story and characters are well presented and engaging. I never get tired of character interactions, especially among the main party. The combat is what shines above all else. Collecting more cards and developing a powerful deck is cathartic when dominating the other players you come acrossEnvironments are varied and interesting with plenty of different enemies to battle; the music is incredible in its production value and there’s not a single track I’ve heard that I thought sounded bad.I’m about 60% through the game’s story with 60 hours clocked in; no feelings of burnout or getting bored. I always look forward to when I can start it up and experience more of the game.

And despite thinking that some of them could be optional, some of the items needed to progress in the main story game are stuck behind some of the frustrating mini games. I also feel that I have gotten through little of the actual main story/game because of the amount of quests and mini games.Overall, I still recommend the game and still think that they did OG FF7 justice, however, some of the mini games and side quests could have been omitted. But, if mini games and quests are your thing, you’ll definitely find yourself thoroughly enjoying the game.

[Rewarded Review] One of my Favorite games of 2024
15 June 2024

I will start by saying I did not play FF7 back on the PS1 since I never owned one. I ended up playing FF7 on steam and fairly enjoyed it even with its old graphics. I bought FF7Remake when that eventually came out to Steam and really enjoyed it and was super excited for the sequel to see what will change from the original with this trilogy remake.FF7Rebirth continues from FF7Remake ending to tell the second part of the 3 game trilogy's story and does this game have such great start. The game kicks off with an awesome intro then leads to the game introducing you to the open world after the intro. This game is super gorgeous and you can tell Square is definitely putting in so much love for this game. The open world of the game is pretty fun to explore with at times ...Ā MoreI will start by saying I did not play FF7 back on the PS1 since I never owned one. This game is super gorgeous and you can tell Square is definitely putting in so much love for this game. The open world of the game is pretty fun to explore with at times can seem a bit empty but there is quite a bit of things to do around the world so the game doesn't just seem like a game that wants you to go from point A to point B.The combat is the same as Remake but with a lot more mechanics added on top of it. You can have unique attacks depending on the which characters you are using in your party so the combat can have variety. The soundtrack is fantastic. They went super hard with the soundtrack on remaking songs from original FF7 and reusing some that were remade in Remake to then remixing those versions to have a metal sounding rendition of the track. They really put so much love in the soundtrack. The characters are easily the best part of this game. The banter between the party makes them feel alive. They knocked it out of the park with every main character.I don't think this game will make everyone a Final Fantasy fan but it will definitely make you a Final Fantasy 7 fan. I had only played FF7 and FF15 which made me not really be excited for another FF game since I didn't really enjoy a lot of things from 15. Playing FF7Remake showed me that Square can make a great game if they really put their heart and soul into it and both FF7R parts clearly show it.

[Rewarded Review] One of the best games ever made. Full stop.

FFVII Rebirth is one of the best games ever made. It should not exist. It's literally a miracle.Never mind the fact that this game is a technical marvel - especially taking into account that it's built on UE4 and has virtually no loading despite the absolute mass and density of this world. Rebirth is the kind of game that is a game and a work of art in one fell swoop - meaning it's fun as heck to play but also mesmerizing to experience, offering a world that's genuinely impossible not to get lost in. Thousands of unique, voice-acted NPC dialogue lines, intrinsically detailed open world environments & towns, Easter eggs that will blow fans' minds, combat that somehow takes what Remake did and elevates it to a level that is somehow even MORE satisfying with synergy ...Ā MoreFFVII Rebirth is one of the best games ever made. That's all without even mentioning the music or the mini games (I legitimately spent more than 10 if not more than 20 hours in Queens Blood alone) - every inch of this game screams of the devs' passion and love for all things FFVII.You don't get a game like this that treats the characters with this much love and is this content-rich with meaningful, rewarding experiences without it being an absolute labor of love - and an exceedingly masterful one at that.If it isn't clear enough, I wholeheartedly believe this is a game of a lifetime and if your question is "should I try it?" My answer is yes. And now.
