Use this as traveling backup and general data storage. It is fast enough and has nice small space. It does what it needs to do.

I bought this unit both for future-proofing of the time when I have a Gen 2x2 interface laptop and for the present when I have both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 1 computers. The good news: When attached via Type C connection to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port on my desktop workstation, it gave solid, though not optimal, performance. To test it, I copied 80 GB of pure MP4 video files from my lightning-fast workstation NVME card (7,000 MB/sec) over to the PNY. It transferred the first 20 GB at 1.2 GB/s, then settled into a steady state at 500 MB/s for the remainder of the copy. Good, solid, but not the 1000 MB/s steady state for which I had hoped from a USB 3.2 Gen2 for pure sequential read files.Solid enough, but speed cuts in half if I use a Type A connection on the same ... MoreI bought this unit both for future-proofing of the time when I have a Gen 2x2 interface laptop and for the present when I have both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 1 computers. The good news: When attached via Type C connection to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port on my desktop workstation, it gave solid, though not optimal, performance. I expected something on the order of 500 MB/s, which I have seen with my Samsung SSD's with a USB 3.2 gen 1 interface.Instead, the PNY kicks back to USB 2.0 speeds to interface with the gen 1 Type A interface on the laptop. I was only getting 40 MB/s steady state, if that, when I did the test transfer. Now, the laptop doesn't have the super-fast interior NVME RAID0 disk like the workstation does, but it does have an internal SSD that should support full gen 1 speeds. Conclusion: It appears that PNY cut corners on backward compatibility with USB 3.2 gen 1 connections, reducing its transfer speed to the USB 2.0 limit of 40 MB/s. That's a disappointment, since I bought it to transfer large video files between my workstation and my laptop. Next year I will upgrade the laptop to one with a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface and just suffer the slower speeds in the meantime.

This is my first SSD and I love it! Speeds are great and more than enough for me, I love that it comes with USB A and C cables, its a very nice touch for those of us who still have USB A ports to use and not ONLY USB C ports.
I use it with my Mac Book Pro 16 and Fold 3 Android Phone.Works perfectly with both, zero glitch.I don't use Windows so can't comment on it.
Compared to other hard drives, this connection is tight and doesn't come out when I move my MacBook. Love it!
Lightning fast data transfer and fits anywhere. USB C connection works in most devices.
So far this has been an excellent drive. It's insanely fast. Hasn't gotten even warm while using. Size is great, very similar looking to Samsung SSD drives.
I bought this drive to replace a rugged La Cie whose ports were going bad. It doesn't have the rubber protection of the La Cie, but it's so small, you can easily slip it into your pocket and protect it like that. It comes with ExFat formatting , which although compatible with Monterey OS, is NOT compatible with Time Machine. So step one: reformat to APFS. Then it works great and can be backed up to Time Machine along with my other drives. If for some reason you decide to keep the ExFat formatting, be aware that it is a data hog, causing your files to take up 1.5 to 2 times more space than APFS requires.
This device seems to work well but it runs very, very hot. I though my Sandisk SSDs were hot but this is much hotter. Seems pretty fast with my MacBook Pro M1 Max but didn't do any actual measurements. Does come with Acronis Backup software but I think I'll stick with CCC and SuperDuper.
