I really enjoyed playing this game with family so much so we are bringing it to our Christmas Eve party! My kids really enjoyed acting as bam bam did and bonking us when we slipped up and said a non single syllable word. Its an easy game with a fun way to keep you on your toes by guessing the word or phrase! Its easy to understand the rules. But if you don’t care to read the rules or just have an easier time with observing things being done. The company Exploding kittens have a wonderful instruction video on youtube. The game is for ages 7 and up. The box includes 500 new double sided cards which include 2,000 words and phrases, 2 slates for keeping track of points, a 90 sec sand timer, 20cards for Groks words of love and Sad cards, and the inflatable NO stick.

Had a great opportunity from #tryazon to get my hands on the game Poetry for Neanderthals! It's created by the same folks that brought us Exploding Kittens (also a very fun game we own and have played!) We had a fun time playing this game twice with two different sets of friends. Super easy rules, quick to catch on - and competitive in a fun way. It's funny that for such a "simple" game, it really makes you use your brain to follow the instructions correctly by only using one-syllable words to try and get our partner to guess a more complex word. Plus the MOST fun part is that you get to bonk people on the heads when they break the rules LOL - you can't go wrong with that! I'd recommend this game to anyone looking for something that's nearly all-age appropriate, ... MoreHad a great opportunity from #tryazon to get my hands on the game Poetry for Neanderthals! We all agreed that this game really made for a fun evening of entertainment and are looking forward to playing again soon!

Poetry for Neanderthals is a super fun and easy family game. Simple to play with clear instructions and a role for everyone, you simply pick a card and try to describe to card using only one syllable words. If a player uses a word longer than one syllable, they get hit with the inflatable 'No Stick' by another player. The No Stick was a favorite tool amongst everyone, the kids definitely enjoyed getting to bop the adults. Kids ages and up, who understood the concept of syllables were able to enjoy this game just as much as adults. A unique and fun challenge for the whole family! Thanks to Tryazon for the opportunity to play!

So I will start by saying, this game is really fun, but I encourage you to play with more than three people. It's much more fun with teams. This game is harder than it looks and can be pretty challenging. You have to get your partner to guess the phrase/word on your card using only one syllable words to describe it. If you use more than one syllable in your description, you will get pummeled with an inflatable club by a third player.Hilarious! It's so much fun and super entertaining. My eight year old loves it, especially when it's his turn to hold the club. There is an optional extra bit at the end where you can use already played cards to create a Neanderthal ad lib poem. It's charming and witty, I love it and think everyone should play it at least once in their ... MoreSo I will start by saying, this game is really fun, but I encourage you to play with more than three people. I took this game to work with me and had my highly educated colleagues play with me during lunch. We laughed so hard that there were tears in our eyes. The gist: give clues to your teammates to guess a word or phrase. The one rule? You can only speak in single syllables, like a Neanderthal. (Ice cream: I eat cold snack in round ***** on top of hard cone. Or something like that.) If you speak in a multi-syllable word, you get whacked with the "NO stick". (An inflatable club.) We all especially loved getting to whack our neighbor when they spoke in multi-syllables. We had such a good time and it went pretty quickly as well. (10 players finished in less than 30 minutes.)The only thing I did not like about it was actually blowing up the club. I was finally able to separate the plastic enough to get a bit of air in, then it became easier. But also getting the air out proved difficult. The air nozzle isn't the easiest to work with.

It’s so easy, a caveman could do it (…geico commercials, anyone? anyone?) The game play is easy to learn. Use one syllable word clues to get your team to guess the word on the card. Very similar concept to taboo or catch phrase or $25,000 pyramid or password. The twist on this game is that the clues must be only one syllable words. But in playing it ended up just saying sentences and phrases with smaller words, poor grammar, and much of the time it was easier with just calling out clue words. And instead of a taboo buzzer (…Four Christmases was such a good movie…) , you hit the person with an inflatable club with the word No on it. (Kind of like in season 1 of Family Guy and Brian hits Peter with the newspaper saying, “No!”). (Kind of like in season 1 of Family Guy and Brian hits Peter with the newspaper saying, “No!”). The kids loved the club hitting part. The box description doesn’t completely match the gameplay. In the game play people generally didn’t say parts of the word or other illegal clues, so having only one person from the other team call out when multiple syllable used, turned into everyone on the other team calling out the cluegiver. The point of sitting on alternate chairs with other team just makes for easier hitting with the club. Eventually, we rarely ended up using the club as everyone pretty much stopped using anything but one syllable words. Really, the only reason for having cards in the negative point pile was when clue giver would pass. At game end, the winning team ends up doing a Neanderthal poetry reading from their winning cards discard pile. Basically a short 3 word Mad-Lib. Typically not very funny and generally useless for gameplay. Very few of these in the box and would be more fun if they affected gameplay more and if there were more poetry cards. The game board was also pretty unnecessary. It was easy enough after each round to tally points for that team. Ultimately if playing again would just take a pack of cards and leave the rest. All in all it was fun and everyone had a good time.

Poetry for Neanderthals is an extremely fun and social game to play with a group of people. We played with 7 people, 4 guys and 3 girls. The odd number of players was the only thing that made it slightly less than ideal, but it was easily overcome. The rules say if there is an odd number of players one becomes the all-time checker/moderator, but that didnt sound fun to us. For each round we played, we gave each guy a turn, and then we gave 1 girl an extra turn to even it out.Throughout the game we laughed so much! The conflict of trying to use only simple words while also race the timer was an extremely entertaining mental challenge. Poetry for Neanderthals: This game was beyond hilarious. Trying to give clues with just one syllable words is crazy, you really have to think about what you're saying so you don't get bonked in the head with the inflatable club, or the NO! stick. The game is very easy to set up and learn how to play. There are 2 teams, Team Glad and Team Mad and they each sit in alternating positions around the table. You pick who is going to be the poet and then the poet decides if they want their team to guess the 1 point word (easy) or the 3 point word (hard) and if you guess the 1 point word and still have time, you can go for the 3 point word, but if you mess up, you lose the point and have to place the card on the oops slate. We all found it very challenging NOT to use multiple syllable words and always seemed to get hit on the head with the club which, I think, we all loved the most. You then have Grok's words of love and sad cards where the winning team goes through their poetry cards and picks their 3 favorites and insert the words into the blanks in the poem. The other team has the NO! stick and decide whether to use it based on the quality of the poem. This is completely opional but still quite fun and hilarious. Everything you need is included, you get 200 poetry cards, 90 sec timer, poet point slate, team point slate, inflatable 2ft club, and 20 Grok's words of love and sad cards. There is an additional set of poetry cards that you can buy separately.
