Potential Spoiler Ahead: Overall, a well-made remake. I enjoy the Chibi style, as it really reminds me of the Pokémon DS games which were the best. Giving it five stars, because I enjoyed it very much. Ilca stayed loyal to the original Diamond and Pearl games, which was a fantastic decision, as these in my eyes had little to no flaws. However, for the price of a Switch game now, it does lack a substantial amount of content from Platinum which I would've liked to see. (e.g. Distortion World, Battle Frontier and more.) One thing I absolutely disliked though was the walking Pokémon animations. Those were the worst I have ever seen. HeartGold and Let's Go did it SO much better than this. That was disappointing. Great game if your new to the series or want to relieve the older game but with 3d models. I recommend it then. Wanting something more akin to Sword or Shield or Breath of Wild like aesthetic? no I don't recommend it. My own personal take is that the game is overall a pretty decent game, not terribly bad, but also not terribly amazing. in between. The game feels too easy at times, but also allows you to play however you'd like, so if you want to raise 1 pokemon, or do a nuzlocke, you are free to do so. ironically there is a mechanic that is very, very helpful for nuzlocke challenges. Still linear, so you HAVE to do the gyms in order, so no semi open world.

I bought this game because I was very excited to get the DP remakes when they were announced back in February. For anybody who hasn't played the original Diamond and Pearl games, I absolutely would recommend this game. However, these remakes are faithful to the original games; perhaps a little too faithful. Only a few things were changed from the originals, there's still a lack of fire-types, and the gameplay is about the same as the originals overall. Having played the original Pokemon Diamond for the DS, the remake is fairly good, but as I mentioned already it is a bit too faithful. Definitely one of the better parts of the game is the underground though. It is incredibly spacious and there are many hideouts throughout where both regional dex pokemon and national ... As a long-time fan of the Pokémon series, I, like many others, was extremely excited for this installment to the arsenal of games, especially after the previous games (Sword and Shield) that brought more disappointment than enjoyment. While Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl did not fully reach my expectations, they were definitely good. The games are fun and enjoyable, but far from challenging. There is a friendship mechanic in battle that makes Pokémon you use frequently begin to land stronger hits occasionally, dodge enemy attacks, remove debuffs from themselves, or even survive attacks that would normally knock them out. However, the frequency of these makes it feel like cheating because the player is the only one who ever gets to do this, and it robs the ... There is a friendship mechanic in battle that makes Pokémon you use frequently begin to land stronger hits occasionally, dodge enemy attacks, remove debuffs from themselves, or even survive attacks that would normally knock them out. However, the frequency of these makes it feel like cheating because the player is the only one who ever gets to do this, and it robs the player of the feeling of accomplishment when they want to strategize. The games can still include this, but it should be a feature that can be turned on or off, but it is mandatory. Another issue is the following Pokémon. The game has a feature where you can have a Pokémon accompany you while you explore the world, but the Pokémon are sometimes sized inaccurately or have almost completely idle walking and running animations. For an example, the Pokémon Rayquaza, a sky dragon that is 23 feet long, appears like a coiled-up garden snake that is almost perfectly still as it hovers behind the player. Furthermore, the animations are far from stellar. They follow the trend of the previous 3D installments of the series, with carbon-copy animations with different effects for different moves. Despite these flaws, the games are exceedingly enjoyable to play. I have loved the selection of cool and iconic Pokémon to play the game with, and the exploration has been smooth. When these games were announced, I was afraid that I would be robbed of a good experience in the region the games take place in, but after having played the vast majority of what it has to offer, I feel quite satisfied.
This game had the potential to be one of the best Pokémon remakes ever but unfortunately it was ruined by laziness and untested work. The game was released unfinished and continues to have a ridiculous about of glitches that can ruin your save file. Pokémon sizes are not to scale and some aren’t even given an animation. So many features from Platinum should’ve been added but was just lazy. I expected so much more from the game developers since this was their big project! I’d have rather waited an extra few months in order to revive a game that was up to the basic expectations of a decent remake. Only thing I’m 100% happy with is the amazing music in the game! Strays true to the old versions while giving a nice breath of freshness into the quality of sound.
My son hated this game. He played it for 20 minutes and was so disappointed, he cried. The graphics are circa 2000 and the game is a joke. Why is this the same price as pokemon shield? It was like they wrote the game 20 years ago and packaged it up now for sale. Not worth the money at all-total waste of money!!!! I am angry that this game is sold as a current game and has the graphics and restrictions of a 20 year old game. I get the nod to Pokémon Diamond original, but not if it looks as poor as the quality of this game is. You can do a nod to that game with updated and current graphics. Total disappointment! Do not buy this game!
This product is an alright purchase for young children and those who haven't played the original games that this Remaster is based on. If you are somebody that has played the older games, this game doesn't come recommended. It isn't a faithful remaster, is filled with some bugs, and is inconsistent with quality of life changes. The remasters of previous generations (like Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and HeartGold/SoulSilver) were quality remasters that also were consistent with the concurrent games of that generation. Those games raised the bar for remasters, but this game falls short. So, I personally don't recommend it for people like me. Like I said before, younger kids might enjoy it. Overall a good, faithful remake of the original Diamond/Pearl DS games. I heard from someone that they didnt like it because its barely any different from the original. Well, theyre right. Its not. I knew and wanted that going into it, but if youre looking for something original, this aint it. Try the new Legends Arceus game for a fresh open world take on Pokmon. But for those of us looking to relive those hours spent chugging away at the game with the little 8-bit style graphics on DS for Dialga and the Pokmon league, this is for you. The graphics got a nice upgrade and so did the Grand Underground. Theres a bit more to do down there and its useful for catching unique Pokmon and leveling up. You can also have your Pokmon follow you around like in the Lets Go games. You no longer have to always have a pokmon on your team who knows a useless move like Cut or Defog just to get around. And most importantly, leveling up got WAY easier since they implemented a whole-team EXP gain from each battle. In nearly every other way, though, the game is the same. Overall I enjoyed this game. Maybe not as much as I was hoping (maybe I replayed it too recently on DS and now Im kind of over it), but it did deliver exactly what I asked for in a very slightly upgraded package that fixed a few of the things that made the old game cumbersome. Good for old players and those new to D/P alike. This will always be my childhood game and Im happy to have such a faithful version to play on my switch.
I don't recall much from the stories of Pokémon DP, XY, or BW 1/2 as I've played them long ago. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond is a remaster for the Switch, but retains the chibi art style of the original games. I personally love this art style, while I know some players in the community do not like this style or aesthetic found in the original games or games like Link's Awakening on the Switch. The game did get rushed from a development standpoint. That was discovered with the day 1 patch to replace the placeholder original music with their remastered copies, as well as fixes for exploits discovered by the community. While I never personally ran into these issues, the game overall felt polished and the graphics were amazing. The grand underground was a welcome return ... If you're looking to scratch the Pokémon itch, miss the grand underground, and aren't put off by the art style, then this will do perfectly.
I grew up playing Pokémon with my brother and so I picked this up to play through it and trade Pokémon with him over Christmas. I really should have just waited for Pokémon Legends: Arceus though. This game is fine but I did not get all the way through it. It couldn't hold my attention with it's super basic story and slightly more difficult than typical battles. The Pokémon roster is also nothing special but in my opinion nothing since Gen 2 has been. Get the other game and pass on this is my advise. No one should ever buy another basic rehashed Pokémon formula game again. They just proved they know how to do better than this game with that and in comparison this is boring. It scratches a collecting itch but why not buy something else where you can actually have ...
