PolarPro Hero8 Switchblade Protective Housing

$92.50

(15 reviews)

The PolarPro SwitchBlade for HERO8 Black is an all-metal frame that lets you use the included filters and macro lens in different combinations for different uses underwater. It's designed to secure to the Protective Housing for the GoPro HERO8 Black. On the bottom, it offers a 2-prong mount that allows it to be mounted on various handgrips. Included are a red filter, magenta filter, and 5x magnification macro lens. The macro lens attaches to a hinge on the side of the SwitchBlade. Your choice of the red or magenta filter attaches on top. The filter that's left out can then be swapped in as needed. If you attached the red filter, you can swap it out for the magenta filter or vice-versa, as your needs require. The macro lens, however, retains its place. The red or magenta filter can be used on its own, or with the macro lens over it. All three feature a flip-out design, and the two that are attached can be used or moved out of the way without having to be detached. In order to capture more accurate colors underwater, filters have to be used. The red filter provides this solution for tropical or blue waters at depths of 15 to 75', and the magenta filter is for green waters at the same depths. The macro lens can be applied over these to magnify the image by up to 5x while still achieving the color correction. The color filters are engineered specific to the HERO8's white balance. The macro lens, when used on its own, without being combined with the color filters, is still capable of providing magnification, but only in shallow waters, such as a pool. It also works outside of the water, as long as the subject is within 5" of distance, as is normal with macro lenses.

Aside from the great delivery process across the continent. This is a must buy item. Excellent quality and results. It is very fun to use and provides a practical UW photography tool

I'm glad that you guys bring so cool system with 2 color filters and macro lens but in my personal opinion you need to add a snorkel filter too! Because sometimes regular red filter is too strong especially when you use a videolights so I'm using snorkeler filter even on 30+ meters deep.So please please please, add snorkel filter to SwitchBlade to make it a most full and professional kit for divers!Thank you!Best regardsD.V.L.

Functions well, but seems less than durable

I'm fairly happy with the switchblade, it helps get great close up macro shots while diving (and allows you to use the red filter and macro lens at the same time, unlike Backscatter's competitor product). However, the durability seems quite poor. Several screws and magnets started rusting after just a couple dives, even though I fresh water rinsed and dried my gopro with a compressed air hose after each dive. There's a lifetime warranty but it's a bit of a hassle to have to mail your filter/lens in every so often (and I'm not sure how much normal rust from use is even covered by their warranty).

Must have item for underwater video
3 December 2020

You would need Red filter to bring out natural color if you are trying to take pictures/videos at depth of 15feet+. I have several red filters and one macro lens for my Hero 8 but this item brought Red Filter & Marco lens AT ONCE!!The structure of item get well fitted to Hero8 and it works really well

For hundred dollars only two filters? Where is a snorkeling filter? Don't be greedy and add one more filter!

SCUBA Divers must have
9 February 2020

Iv been diving for over 40 years and have used many photo/ video products.I found Polar Pro Switch Blade very easy to use with the new GoPro8, The quality of the product in its build quality made its use underwater a great addition to my video and photo shooting especially with macro shooting. I would highly recommend this product.I want to add that prior to the purchase I asked questions via chat from B & H and received clear answers quite quickly.

The original shipping date a lie! Thanks for nothing Polarpro.
5 January 2020

The original shipping date of Dec 16 came and went. I recieved no notice that it had changed . I had to contact the support team on Dec 19 and was told an email had been sent to people who had purchased the Switchblade ( I did NOT receive said email) and the new ship date was now on Jan 10, right in the middle of my scuba trip. I sent a reply stating the following: that I had paid the extra on shipping to make sure the switchblade arrived with plenty of time before my trip. If Polarpro would have been up front with there shipping date I would not have bought A new gopro 8, I would have opted for the gopro 7 and a Backscatters flip 7 filter and macro lens. I have not heard back from Polarpro in 15 days now. So as to the product I hope it is good but I have lost all ... MoreThe original shipping date of Dec 16 came and went. Also another note since Dec 19 the web site has said that the item is sold out although what was told to me in the email from support is that they have not even received any stock from the manufacturer as of yet.... another lie.....

mounts loose to attachments
20 March 2020

Positive - lens/filter work really well and attaches nicecly to the official GoPro housing.Negative - quite a big negative, the mount (prongs?) Are too thin meaning when you mount it to trays/holders/sticks the camera is not tight and flops around.
