After a lifetime of spraying pre-cat lacquer I wanted a more pleasant finish to use in my retirement, I must have tried 10 or more different water based finishes and finally found the one I like in polyvine wood varnish. The deciding factor was the lack of a blue cast which so many seem to have, all in all a good quick drying tough finish. This is now my finish of choice.

I have been using this product for a few years now and it has not failed to produce an excellent finish on any of my hard and softwood projects. Whilst you have to apply at least 2 coats to get the hard wearing finish required, it is no hardship as the drying time between coats is only a few hours and requires very little sanding between coats. It is my go to product, well this and the dead flat version, which is also an excellent product.

This varnish is the bee's knees. It doesn't smell, it's easy to apply, it gave a great finish with no skill from me, and it dried really fast. Also I can put a hot teacup down on the (dried) varnish without marking it.What more could you ask? All other varnishes are now dead to me.

I made a dining table out of reclaimed scaffold boards and I wanted a finish that would be durable enough for heavy use but also didnt yellow the wood or leave a super shiny surface. As directed by the manufacturer I applied two coats of the satin finish to give the wood the strength and protection it needs, then a couple of tops coats of the dead flat matt to take away the shine. The aesthetics are gorgeous, the durability will obviously only become clear after some time has been spent using it. Having to do a satin layer before the matt obviously doubles the cost and its already not cheap, but at least it looks good and the product goes far, so therell be plenty left for future projects. I highly recommend it based on what Ive used it for so far!
I bought satin and dead flat but ended up returning the dead flat for credit because the satin was such a brilliant finish on its own.I am sure the dead flat would be every bit as good as the satin. The varnish is nothing like the white milky stuff from a well known maker, this polyvine varnish is in a class of its own, easy to apply, especially with the superb polyvine brush,Easy to denib between coats, and dries to a very durable tough finish.Highly recommended.
I bought this to varnish some place mats I have made out of plywood. I have used this varnish as it is heat resistant. Appears to work well.
I bought this product having read that it was suitable for kitchen work surfaces, being heat resistant and waterproof. Initially I was very happy - the finish is nice, it was easy to apply and it is waterproof. I put approx 7 coats of varnish, rubbing down with wire wool in between coats, so had hoped for a really durable finish. It's generally ok, but if you put a hot cup of tea down and leave it, or put a hot saucepan lid on it, especially if there is any condensation, it leaves an unsightly white ring / mark. I have had to invest in more heat resistant boards for high traffic areas to protect the worktops.
Excellent product.I use it with children in school, and also myself at home. It has everything in its favour: water-based (easy clean-up), quick drying, very easy to apply (good for both children and myself), is heat-proof (good for wooden coasters) and gives a very good finish. It might be more expensive than other varnishes, but it's really worth it.I recommend this to everyone.
I wanted to use a polyurethane varnish to finish approx 5m2 of solid beech worktops. I initially used the dead matt with 5 coats underneath and 8 on top as this finish had to be really hard wearing being a well used kitchen. After all that hard work It was not even waterproof let alone heat/chemical resistant. After allot of back and forth with polyvine to check I'd used the finish correctly (I'm a time served cabinet maker) they suggested using the satin which worked a treat like it's supposed to. HEED MY WARNING the matt is a decorative finish only and will offer little to no protection, use the satin
I applied to a small hardwood coffee table. I applied 6 coats to the top table surface sanding between coats. As the varnish dries quickly its easy to do up to 3 coats in one day. I now have a very well protected surface which is very smooth. Very pleased
