I was looking for a PC to game with and everybody was telling me desktops were better than laptops. However, I wanted to be able to take my gaming system with me to certain places and thus, wanted a laptop. After researching and researching I found this laptop at a solid sale of about $750 off. I’ll say, best. purchase. Ever. It runs tons of games super well on medium settings. The cooling system has been great, as well as the overall control of things. People I’ve showed it to have said it’s definitely a gem and a great find as it is comparable to a desktop pc setup(on the lower to medium end, of course). It runs games like Risk of Rain 2, Craftopia, Kingdom Hearts, etc. better than my PS5(and my Xbox one in Craftopia’s case). It runs games like Risk of Rain 2, Craftopia, Kingdom Hearts, etc. better than my PS5(and my Xbox one in Craftopia’s case). Kingdom hearts is about even on both and Fortnite runs well on both but due to temperature issues, you’ll sometimes get frame skips so make sure to turn the fans to max speed while playing and to give it a break. The only thing is how massive the charger is (isn’t too much of an issue) and the fact that you only get great gameplay or performance out of it if it’s not plugged in(which seems inconvenient, but realistically you’re only going to be using it in places that it can be plugged in at and if you’re not, you’re probably not going to be doing things that require it to be such as office work, school, etc.). I’d also like to note that it has a very loud sound and animation that plays when you turn it on which can be cool sometimes, and annoying other times. Thankfully, however, you can turn this off in the laptop’s “PredatorSense” app(open it by clicking the monster-skull looking key on the keyboard). Overall I’d give it 5 stars and say I’m thankful to have it. It’s a great product that I’d highly recommend to anybody who needs a cheaper alternative to a desktop as well as people who’d like something portable but closer in power to a desktop and the case it came with has done great at protecting my laptop!

This is my first gaming laptop from Acer, though I've had quite a few gaming laptops and PCs from other manufacturers in the past. Despite the plastic housing, this laptop is quite heavy weighing nearly 6 lbs on its own while the 230W charging brick adds 1 lb. The laptop comes with a fitted zippered neoprene travel sleeve to protect it from scratches. The laptop comes with a fitted zippered neoprene travel sleeve to protect it from scratches. The aesthetics are fairly plain with a black base and steel-gray upper lid and small reflective chrome Predator logo at the front. It does, however, come with a sticker sheet for you to jazz it up a bit.On its left are the RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port, USB 3.2 Gen 1, microSD card reader, and combo mic/headphone port. On the right side you’ll find two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with the left one supporting power-off charging of connected devices, LED battery and power indicators, and a Kensington lock slot. At the back are the DC-in port, HDMI 2.1 output, and two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports which support DP-alt mode with 4K/8K output, 40 Gbps bandwidth, and 100W quick charging. This build ships with a 13th Gen Intel i5-13500HX CPU and 16GB of 4800 MHz DDR5 SDRAM pre-installed (8GB x 2), but you can upgrade the memory up to 32 GB max total. The hard drive is a bit small at 512 GB, but there is an open m.2 NVMe slot available for you to add as a secondary drive (compatible with dual-sided drives); you can also simply pop in a microSD card for extra storage, as opening the bottom casing is a little bit fiddly. In addition to the discrete graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050), the CPU has integrated graphics (UHD Graphics 16EU) for reduced performance in exchange for less power consumption/longer battery life. Which graphics the internal display uses depends on your settings and usage requirements in auto mode. While you can configure it to specifically use one or the other in the NVIDIA control panel, when connecting a second monitor via the HDMI port, the external display will always use the discrete GPU.The laptop screen is a 16" diagonal IPS display with narrow bezels, 165 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time, and max resolution of 1920x1200 with a 16:10 aspect ratio (WUXGA). It produces fairly dark blacks with minimal light haloing of bright objects on dark backgrounds. Its max brightness is 400 nits which is decent for a laptop, and it is G-sync compatible. There is an integrated 2MP 720p webcam and dual-mic array just above the screen for live streaming and video conferencing on-the-go.The keyboard features RGB backlighting customizable in the PredatorSense app with static or animated color patterns, though the keys stand out somewhat already with contrasting white edges. The WASD, PredatorSense key, and D-pad have translucent sides allowing the LED colors to shine through. The keys are not individually addressable but there are 4 "zones" for which you can set individual colors. By default the lighting effects shuts off after 30 seconds of inactivity, though you can toggle this setting off or simply press any key to light up the keyboard again. The mousepad is large with a 5" x 3" area and is responsive, supporting multi-touch gestures, taps, swipes, and clicks. On battery saver mode you can squeeze about 3.5 hours of use out a fully charged battery, provided you aren’t gaming or doing graphics intensive creative work, and in high performance mode you'll get about 1.5 hours of usage with the average mixed/casual use lasting around 2 hours. There is a mode cycle button just above the keyboard on the left-hand side that allows you to quickly switch between power profiles like Silent, Balanced, Performance, and Turbo (white, blue, purple, magenta).Just be aware this laptop puts out a lot of heat from the back corners at the sides and rear, so you'll either want to use it on a desk or preferably on a cooling mat. CPU idle temps ran around 58-60°C while the GPU hovered around 55-58°C with the fans running in Auto mode (~2200 RPM) and the fans are generally quiet. The RTX 4050 was able to deliver super smooth gameplay at maxed out Ultra settings on its internal display with games like CS:GO and PoE. I didn’t notice any issues with tearing, lag, or stuttering and saw consistent framerates at 80 fps and above, often over 120 fps depending on the game and settings. However, GPU temps did occasionally rise to over 80°C, so I recommend just setting the fan to max (~6300 RPM) which lowered the temps about 15°C. At max speed the fan noise is pretty loud at around 55 dB, but a good pair of headphones was sufficient to block it out. Just note that if using external displays with QHD or higher resolutions, the framerate may drop accordingly. For non-gaming purposes like content creation it works well, though note that the integrated panel only has 8-bit color depth in the SDR color space, so don’t expect super accurate colors unless you use an external display. However, text is clear and easy to read on it, and the speed is fast enough to render/export large video files and 3D models in a reasonable amount of time. The screen is also suitable for media consumption like streaming video and web browsing. The built-in speakers aren’t that bad either and can get pretty loud, though will start to distort and get boxy at higher volumes; you'll have a better listening experience using headphones or external speakers as the laptop supports Dolby DTS:X for accurate sound stage placement.Overall, this gaming laptop delivers a satisfying gaming experience with clean visuals on its internal display and even better performance on external displays with higher resolutions. The machine boots quickly, loads games fast, and handles everyday computing tasks with ease, even when running multiple applications simultaneously. While it doesn’t ship with a ton of hard drive space or RAM, both these components can be upgraded by a knowledgeable end user. It's a bit on the heavy side, only has so-so battery life, and runs a bit hot too, so keep this in mind if you're looking for a rig you can take and use on-the-go.

Looking at other similar systems, this one was the best because of the features and quality I was looking for. It's got the graphics, speed, and processing power needed for my projects and gaming. It runs like a charm. The 10-key pad is a plus, as the others I looked at didn't have it.There a few cons for me personally, but these don't take away from the overall experience:1) The keys aren't in the same orientation as on the Acer Nitro 5. Had to get used to the new placement and use of the functions.2) There's no place for a standard 2.5" drive. Which would've been easier to transfer my data, as all I would have had to do was transfer the drive itself instead of copying everything over.3) There are no easy access panels for the RAM or SSD, you have to ... MoreLooking at other similar systems, this one was the best because of the features and quality I was looking for. Which would've been easier to transfer my data, as all I would have had to do was transfer the drive itself instead of copying everything over.3) There are no easy access panels for the RAM or SSD, you have to completely remove the bottom panel to access them, which was a chore to do as the clips did not want to budge at first, but with a bit of careful perseverance, it finally relented (with no broken pieces, thankfully).Replacing the RAM is easy once you actually get the panel off. It also does have a space for a second SSD (PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2280), which I highly recommend, especially if you're a digital hoarder like me.Other than those cons, which as I stated doesn't detract from the overall experience, this system is amazing. One thing I also noticed is in one question about the RAM, Acer stated it could use up to 64GB. While that might be true for another model, the *official* supported RAM is 32GB, which is what I have installed. The RTX 4060 is powerful and runs games beautifully. I've been playing The Talos Principle and TTP2 along with a few other games here and there, and it handles them perfectly. With the i7-13700, running programs is a breeze. Just open and go. The only waiting period is if a program has to load assets, but even that only takes seconds at the most. It's great for video editing and processing. Maybe not top tier, but definitely up to the task. It can run the latest Adobe, Microsoft, and other software suites, whatever your preference is.It did come with Windows 11 Home, which I never really much cared for Win 11 having seen it before and using it at work. Though there are programs that can make it feel and look more like Windows 10, which I have done, making it more familiar. The battery only lasts a couple hours on normal use, way less when watching videos or gaming, but given the hardware, it's no surprise. Would've been nice if they used a higher-rated battery, but it's a small sacrifice for the beast this thing is.The laptop is a bit on the weighty side at 6 pounds, but with the components put into it, it's worth it.So overall, it's a great system, no real complaints, just a few minor personal cons.Highly recommend for a higher mid-range laptop.
Acer is a respected Computer Hardware andElectronics Company and their newest product, The Predator Helios Neo 16” Gaming Laptop is no exception.Screen: comes with a pretty large 16 inch screen with a very good resolution of 1900 x 1200. Very clean and crisp, perfect for gaming.GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. Pretty high-end, will play any game out currently, even though you might not get max settings for the most graphically taxing games, for any other games it’s fine. I played Warzone at medium settings to keep my frame rates up.Processor: Intel Core i9 14th Generation. A very capable and very top of the line processor, capable of running your laptop, perfectly smooth while gaming or having multiple websites/applications open with no problems.RAM: 16GB DDR5. Very good for today’s standards (but not great) will play pretty much any game currently out now. Not necessarily future proof, but will do the job for now.Storage: 1TB SSD, pretty much the standard for today’s laptops, 1TB is plenty to download few high profile games, A few hours worth of 4k videos, or a ton of music.. but if you download a combination of all these things, you will eventually run out of storage and might have to start deleting things or get an external storage device with more memory. Everyone is different than this department, but for me it’s more than enough. I delete ild games and I don’t really download music or movies. Just stream a bunch of stuff.Misc: The screen is not touchscreen, but the keyboard is back lit, which gives it a nice touch. Plenty of connections, such as 1 HDMI port as well as 2 Thunderbolt ports. Overall, I really like this laptop, I like the way it looks, I like the way it performs, for a medium level laptop I feel like you cannot go wrong with the Acer Predator Helios Neo.
I have to admit, I am not a “hard-core” gamer, but I do like playing some games. My favorites are driving simulators like Forza, and I have recently been playing some of the Star Wars FPS games. I have an older HP Spectre 360 that works well, but now that it’s about five years old, I was looking for an upgrade. That’s when I found this Acer Predator. Its specs checked all the boxes – the latest Intel i9 processor, the latest GeForce graphics card, an NVMe interface with a 1TB SSD. I also thought that the 16-inch screen would make it a bit more portable than a larger 17-inch.Out of the box, I found this machine very impressive. It’s thinner than I expected for such a beefy computer. I love all the ports! It has 3 USB-A ports on the sides, and two USB-C Thunderbolt ports on the back. I really like that the power cord plugs into the back of the laptop, making it easier to place on a table without having cords in the way of the mouse or other devices. Of course no gaming machine would be complete without a dedicated Gigabit Ethernet port like this one has. An HDMI port as well as a headphone jack and a micro-SD slot round out the connection options. I really can’t think of anything missing in there.Another thing I noticed when removing it from the box is that this thing is beefy. Heavy, that is. It has some heft to it, and using a plastic case, that’s all in the battery and cooling system. Not only that, the power adapter is good sized piece on its own. In fact, by itself it weighs more than my entire HP Spectre laptop. Of course I didn’t buy this computer to schlep through airports on business trips, so I was not so concerned with weight, but it is a factor when I want to carry it around the house.Besides the specs, there are many things I really like about this machine. First of all, it’s fast! Just everyday usage is incredibly fast. It plows through opening MS-Office apps and other business software like no computer I’ve ever used. The screen is a good size, too. I like the 16:10 ratio as it seems to have much more real estate than a typical 16:9. The keyboard is excellent! Not just its tactile feedback for gaming, but regular typing is a pleasure. Most of the time when I get a new laptop, it takes me a while to get used to the minute differences of its layout, key travel, and feedback, but this one was totally natural. I almost prefer it to my desktop keyboard. The mousepad is typical of modern Synaptics devices. It’s nothing special and works well.I have found a few things that I don’t like so much about this machine. First of all, the screen does not have a very wide viewing angle. In fact, anything other than a dead-on aligned view produces subtle changes in color and brightness with images near the edges. It’s not so noticeable with darker screen content, but very bright images can make things very annoying. Another issue is that there seem to be a few issues with the most demanding game animations. I was playing “Star Wars: Jedi – Survivor” and a few times I experienced a lag in some of the busier, fast-moving screens. It’s not a huge distraction, but I did notice it. I have not tweaked any settings, other than using the top keyboard button to put it in “Turbo” mode, but maybe there’s something that will help. Still, I was expecting flawless. My biggest complaint is battery life. It’s just too short. Just browsing the web and watching videos kills the battery in less than 3 hours, even in “eco” mode. I was unable to get much more than an hour of game play out of the battery. That’s not such an issue, because for the best experience, it needs to be in “Performance” or “Turbo” mode and those are unavailable on battery power. 99% of the time I will be using this laptop for gaming, it will be plugged into its charger, but I was expecting something a bit better in battery life, especially given its weight. Speaking of charging, I did find that it will recharge using a USB-C power supply through the Thunderbolt ports. I connected a 100w charger that I have for another laptop, and though it takes a while, it will give me a charge in a pinch. Note that without using theOverall, I am not disappointed. I like this laptop and love its power! I intend to blow away the stock installation of Windows 11 Home and replace it with a Pro license, thus being able to join it to my domain and also getting rid of any bloatware (e.g. McAfee). It looks like all the specialized drivers and gaming software are available on the Acer website, so it should go smoothly.

The display is beautiful with a nice, matte finish to reduce glare, IPS wide viewing angles, and features a fast 3ms response time and 165Hz refresh rate which makes for very smooth motion when gaming or watching videos. The keyboard has RGB backlighting and is good for both typing and gaming, but some of the buttons are smaller than you may be used to on other keyboards. This might be because the keyboard features two extra keys: a Windows CoPilot key and a PredatorSense key (for launching Acer's PredatorSense software). My one gripe would be that a loud, jarring "swoosh" sound plays whenever the laptop is powered on or rebooted. I was able to find an option to disable the sound (and keep the animation) in the BIOS. Tap F2 repeatedly while the laptop is powering on until you get to the BIOS screen. Press F1 for Advanced Settings, then select "Main" on the left-side menu. Leave the "POST Animation & Sound" setting on, but set "Sound" immediately below it to "Mute". Press F10 to exit (selecting the option to "Save & Exit"). Alternatively, both the sound and animation can be disabled in the PredatorSense software. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop has plenty of ports. On the left side, you'll find an Ethernet port (although the laptop has 6E Wi-Fi), USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, a MicroSD card slot, and a headset jack. On the right, there's are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports (one of which can charge your devices while the laptop is off), and the indicator lights for power and battery. On the back, there is the power port, two (!) Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, and a full-size HDMI 2.1 port.Unfortunately, there are no biometric sensors on the laptop (no Windows Hello webcam nor fingerprint reader), although the webcam does feature some nice AI features, such as making it appear that you're always looking at the camera. However, you will need to login to Windows with either a password or a PIN.## PerformanceThis Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop contains an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor, which is the latest high-end CPU from Intel’s Raptor Lake-HX Refresh lineup. It features 24 cores and 32 threads, with a turbo clock speed peaking at 5.8GHz, meaning it can handle even heavy-duty tasks. If you're rocking a rig with its predecessor -- the i9-13980HX -- the performance gains in this new generation are only marginal, so don't expect a significant boost on the processor alone. This laptop pairs the powerhouse processor with the powerhouse NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM. This card is about 20% faster than its predecessor (the RTX 3060) and features an efficient architecture for laptop computers. It's a mid-range card that provides a fair balance of cost with performance. The laptop also has a roomy 1024GB SSD drive and a nice 16GB of RAM (many would say that 8GB of RAM is the minimum you would want in a Windows 11 machine). This should give you plenty of storage for your games, as well as plenty of memory for running multiple programs at once.I tested this laptop with Fortnite, leaving the game auto-configure the performance settings and found that the game picked "Epic" and "High" for virtually all the settings. Performance while playing was impressive, averaging between 60-80 FPS, sometimes popping into the 100s on simple areas of the map. Motion looks buttery smooth and colorful on the matte 165Hz display. Fan noise can become problematic while gaming, but nothing a good pair of gaming headphones won't fix.Acer's "PredatorSense" software can be loaded by pressing the dedicated PredatorSense key on the keyboard (above the numeric pad on the right-side). This allows you to adjust many of the performance profiles (such as Balanced, Performance, Turbo, and Quiet), fan speed, as well as battery charging (you can limit it to 80% if you plan to keep the laptop plugged in a majority of the time).I ran the Cinebench benchmarking tool on the laptop on the out-of-the-box settings and found some very good results:- Cinebench Multi-core Score: 21,948- Cinebench Single-core Score: 2,051## SummaryOverall, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 offers impressive performance, plenty of ports for connectivity, and ample SSD and RAM for most tasks. Fortnite runs great on it. Its bulky size doesn't make for a perfect travel companion, but its processing power and plethora of ports make it a great gaming (or working) machine for home.
