I wanted to can beef and chicken for a long camping trip. I've never used a pressure canner before and am of an older generation who has heard all the horror stories of canners blowing up. Even though people say that modern ones, if used properly, won't do that, I was terrified the first time I used it. I still sit in a chair and keep an eye on the pressure gage, so I can adjust my burner up or down to keep it at the proper pressure. Seventy to ninety minutes in a chair watching a gauge is boring, but you can put on an audio book to keep you entertained as I did. I'm not scared of the thing anymore, but I am careful. Since the meat cooks in the canner, you can make really quick meals at home or over a camp stove. They do have bigger canners, but this was a perfect size for me. Also, I believe another reviewer said the larger size doesn't fit in a normal kitchen sink, which made it hard to wash. The 16 quart is just right.

I've been using it intensively for over a year and it works perfectly. I also bought from another company a 5-10-15 adjustable weight made for this model exactly, so I don't always have to stay around to check gauge pressure.Very important to consider if you have a vitroceramic stove that adding a surface that goes over the element for a long period can damage it permanently. This product is the only one I found that had a bottom adapted to fit the vitroceramic burner size. Can fit 9 pints jars. Add a tablespoon vinegar to the water or the aluminium gets dull.On mine, when I use the 10 psi preweighted stopper, the gauge reads 11 psi. Maybe it's just mine though, a little over is always ok.

Durable and money saving, excellent value

I like that this is smaller than my 23 QT Presto so I can lift it easier when filled or filling with water. I am getting older and am canning smaller batches of foods at at time and this fits the bill perfectly. It does not have a pressure gauge so I don't have to stand there and watch the pressure the whole time. As long as the weight is rocking I'm good to go. I can do other things and listen to it work. Excellent. Simple, and easy. I saw it was on sale after I bought it but I can't even complain. It's worth full price to me.

Bought this a couple of months ago and am extremely happy with it. I have canned potatoes, beans, sausage, chili and tomatoes. It has worked flawless except for one issue which was my fault. Make sure to keep the plunger tightened, it is a two piece unit. I have noticed that mine likes to hold around 12-12.5 lbs pressure on my stove which is fine. The gauge is accurate, at 15 lbs the weight starts to jiggle. I noticed that some reviews was questioning the 15 lb weight and cooking at that level to get the weight to move. This cooker is not designed to be cooked without the weight giggling. I adjust the heat to keep it around 12 lbs which is high for my area by only 1 lb. I am at 900 ft so 11 lb is supposed to be correct. I do not adjust my time. I follow the USDA for ... MoreBought this a couple of months ago and am extremely happy with it. GREAT !!

Great pressure canner . Just the right size . If you are looking for a great pressure canner this is it . It works great on my glass top stove with zero issues. Presto needs to include a 5-10-5 pressure weight. It comes with a 15lb one so, you will need to purchase a 5-10-5 weight if you are under 1000' alt.. Heavy duty pot and lid . You will not be disappointed with this pressure canner . It will hold 7 quart jars, at one time and 8 pint jars, wide mouth, 10 regular mouth jars .I do 8 regular mouth ,and 7 wide mouth, at one time to prevent over crowding and clanking. You can do what is comfortable for you. ENJOY !!

Great Canner for Cost
18 October 2022

So happy with my Presto 16qt canner. The Presto works perfectly. Just follow the manual directions. Love the simplicity of the jiggler as I can access how the canner is doing from a distance while prepping food or whatever instead of hovering over a gauge. Also love that it depressurizes faster than the 1970s Mirro canners I use. This allows me to get more jars done per day. I'm a couple hundred jars into using this canner and would definitely reccomended it to others. Some rave about AA canners but for the cost difference you could buy all the gaskets you will use in a lifetime and still be ahead with this canner.

Love My New Presto Canner
1 August 2021

My 42 year old Presto canner (with the weight instead of the gauge) had become warped with so much use. I thought I would just retire from canning when it let me down canning pickle beets. My husband started searching online since we don’t go shopping because of Covid. While doing a Google search he came across, Blain’s Farm and Fleet. Here in Missouri we had never heard of them. They had a better price than the big name retailers we had been shopping online. After checking out all the reviews, we decided to take a chance. I ordered on Friday and we had the canner on the following Tuesday. After checking out all the reviews, we decided to take a chance. I ordered on Friday and we had the canner on the following Tuesday. My problem now was that most of our garden was dying from too much rain so I didn’t know if I would even get to use it this year.Today, I finally had enough green beans for a canner. I read all the instruction carefully and did a test run to familiarize how the gauge and pressure valve worked. My mother canned for years using the gauge type but would never let me do it. I thought the weight was great when I first got it but found it hard to regulate. The gauge on the new canner is wonderful. I know exactly what the pressure is at all times. We recently retired to the farm my husband grew up on and we plant a big garden. I am in my early 70s so I doubt I will get to use this canner for 40 years, but I am hoping to fill my pantry next year with our bounty.Nothing is prettier than jars of home canned food. I wish I had bought this canner when we first moved here instead of messing with my old one. I highly recommend both the Presto 16 quart canner and Blain’s Farm and Fleet. Both met my expectations.

Perfect for new or vet canners - simple!
25 October 2021

So simple to use. Glad i went with this smaller 16 quart, not the bigger 23 quart with the dial gauge.I'm just starting out canning, but there are veteran canners online that said all you need is the weighted regulator aka "jiggler" that this canner has.Comes with an instruction/recipe book with all the basic USDA canning guides. Fruits, veggies, and meat all have their altitude and time/weight tables. So if you want the basic recipes, you don't have to buy anything else. Please please read thru all the instructions and maintenance info before you start. And watch lots of videos that way you're prepared. It will take longer than you think, so set the time aside.I would definitely recommend this canner, and will buy again as needed, or if i want a backup.

Presto 23 qt. Pressure Canner

1st time pressure canning. I'm very impressed with the Presto 23 qt. Pressure canner. I have had no issues. Solid pot, easy to use, and directions are easy to understand. This unit has safety features in case of over pressure. This is a nice safety feature. I purchased a separate plate so I can double stack pints. Makes the jars sit better. Blains had the best price and their shipping was fast. Thank you.

Safe and easy to use.

Purchased about a week ago from Tractor Supply. Their price was considerably lower than what I was finding on the internet. This thing is so safe and easy to use. Then turn on the heat and bring the water up to about the temp of the canning jars you are putting in. After the jars are filled and the lids and rings installed you fasten the cover per the instructions, turn heat up to high, and watch for steam to come out of the vent. When sufficient time is reached remove from heat and let cool until all pressure is gone (gage reads zore and no steam escapes when lid is removed. Follow all instructions thay come with the canner. This canner is so easy to use and your canned goods are safe to store and eat.
