The canner is decent quality. The gauge is plastic. I have had an issue with the installation of the gauge. I can not stop the system from venting steam and moisture from the base of the gauge. It is currently sitting at my local extension office to test the gauge and calibrate it if necessary. If I can’t it to work properly, Presto will get an additional call.

Hands down the best pressure canner ever. I started out with a smaller one not from presto but a reg small stove top one. I thought it was good for canning but it was taking me hours to do 8 jars I could only fit three in the small one I had, so finally I made the jump and purchased the 23 qt Presto Pressure Canner which was the best decision I have made in a long time. It comes with very clear instructions as well as a small cookbook on what and how to can your jars. I was able to fit four quart size jars and four pint jars and a couple half pint jars and take care of everything at one time which was awesome. Comes with the pressure dial, the weight and one tray inside. You could add another tray to stack if need be but not necessary. This cooker has an amazing ... MoreHands down the best pressure canner ever. I started out with a smaller one not from presto but a reg small stove top one. Excellent quality, very durable and super easy to clean. If you have been thinking about getting one and are unsure I highly recommend getting one. I promise you will not regret that decision. It is a bit expensive but very well worth it.

Great pressure canner . Just the right size . If you are looking for a great pressure canner this is it . It works great on my glass top stove with zero issues. Presto needs to include a 5-10-5 pressure weight. It comes with a 15lb one so, you will need to purchase a 5-10-5 weight if you are under 1000' alt.. Heavy duty pot and lid . You will not be disappointed with this pressure canner . It will hold 7 quart jars, at one time and 8 pint jars, wide mouth, 10 regular mouth jars .I do 8 regular mouth ,and 7 wide mouth, at one time to prevent over crowding and clanking. You can do what is comfortable for you. ENJOY !!

The Presto 23 quart aluminum pressure cooker has allowed me to can other items from my garden that need more than boiling water canning. With the pressure cooker I'm able to can tomatoes, green beans, beets, corn, and some meats. The pressure cooker is fairly light, easy to use, and, most of all, easy to clean. The pressure guage is easy to read. In addition, I'm able to cook a large amount of turnip greens at one time and them freeze them for the winter.
I already have a Presto 22qt pressure canner which I purchased new in 1985 at Sears. I have never had one problem with it, and I use it every canning season and in the winter months too. I purchased this one for a friend. There is a negative review from last December 2019 from a purchaser who complains that this product should have been made from stainless steel instead of "cheap" aluminum although I'm certain the he/she knew this before purchase. Well mine is still going strong 35 years later, AND it's made of aluminum! So guess what? If it lasted me for 35 years (and will easily last another 35yrs given proper care) AND It's made of aluminum....then it's a excellent duraable product for a very good price! I have replaced the gasket one time and the dial pressure gauge once....that's it and a new overpressure plug which came with the kit. No drama, no whining, no hand wringing and no problems whatsoever. Perhaps some people should not own one of these if they don't understand how it's supposed to work. Moreover, the Presto company has been in business for a long time. In 1939 the USFDA gave Presto high marks and their seal of approval for making a durable, easy-to-use product the average person can use for safe home food canning...AND it's made of :"cheap" aluminum!!Buy one. Use it; you won't de disappointed.
My 42 year old Presto canner (with the weight instead of the gauge) had become warped with so much use. I thought I would just retire from canning when it let me down canning pickle beets. My husband started searching online since we don’t go shopping because of Covid. While doing a Google search he came across, Blain’s Farm and Fleet. Here in Missouri we had never heard of them. They had a better price than the big name retailers we had been shopping online. After checking out all the reviews, we decided to take a chance. I ordered on Friday and we had the canner on the following Tuesday. My problem now was that most of our garden was dying from too much rain so I didn’t know if I would even get to use it this year.Today, I finally had enough green beans for a ... MoreMy 42 year old Presto canner (with the weight instead of the gauge) had become warped with so much use. My problem now was that most of our garden was dying from too much rain so I didn’t know if I would even get to use it this year.Today, I finally had enough green beans for a canner. I read all the instruction carefully and did a test run to familiarize how the gauge and pressure valve worked. My mother canned for years using the gauge type but would never let me do it. I thought the weight was great when I first got it but found it hard to regulate. The gauge on the new canner is wonderful. I know exactly what the pressure is at all times. We recently retired to the farm my husband grew up on and we plant a big garden. I am in my early 70s so I doubt I will get to use this canner for 40 years, but I am hoping to fill my pantry next year with our bounty.Nothing is prettier than jars of home canned food. I wish I had bought this canner when we first moved here instead of messing with my old one. I highly recommend both the Presto 16 quart canner and Blain’s Farm and Fleet. Both met my expectations.
Double layer canning capabilities, can use to water bath if necessary. I’m an experienced canner, years using this canner %26 have found if I DO NOT overheat this canner the bottom won’t bulge which is THE indicator of failure so don’t overheat. Found if I get the jars up to pressure, need to turn down the heat source to maintain pressure until processing time is finished. Not running out of water is NOT the overheat indicator btw. That easy.
You need to get a gauge calibrated, and in the U.K. we cant check them every year to be sure theyre accurate, so this version with the giggly weight is more use to use and saves buying the weight separately. It should separate into 3 parts so you can use with 5, 10 and 15 psi as required. Whats more the 10 weight actually gives you 10.5 -11, I read somewhere, which is exactly what we want below 1000ft elevation. Perfect. Someone said they wishes theyd bought the 23qt size because its the same diameter but taller. However, when full it can weigh over 50lbs and they warn you not to put that much onto a ceramic hob! So I thought Id say that here for everyones benefit!
1st time pressure canning. I'm very impressed with the Presto 23 qt. Pressure canner. I have had no issues. Solid pot, easy to use, and directions are easy to understand. This unit has safety features in case of over pressure. This is a nice safety feature. I purchased a separate plate so I can double stack pints. Makes the jars sit better. Blains had the best price and their shipping was fast. Thank you.
Perfect! This was a replacement for an older model of the same brand. This one is even better! It is tall enough to can with half-gallon jars-the older model, though the same quart capactity was shorter, so would not allow anthing taller than a quart jar. . Great price, too! Cheaper here than anywhere. Top that off with a coupon code and it is for sure a win! If it lasts as long as my old canner I will be happy for sure! Go Presto!
