Basic Pencil Sharpener

The two holes offered are for a short tip or a slightly longer point. I did not find either suitable for the detail work I do. I ended up purchasing the Aspara super long pencil sharpener - it's cheaper but delivers a killer sharp long point (also comes in a set of 20!). Not all of my soft core prismacolor pencils can handle such a sharp point and I do end up having to sharpen longer but the results are better than prismacolor pencil sharpener. I would not recommend this one - especially if you are working with harder core colored pencils. I prefer a hand-held sharpener to the electric models. This one is fantastic. The choice of sharpening blades/openings, the true sharpness of the blades (a sign of quality), and the ability to create a truly fine point all make this an truly great product. My only complaint is a small design issue. The sharpener's top is tricky to open and if done too forcefully causes an explosion of shaving to rain down up my work space. The top would also be difficult for folks with arthritis or other hand mobility issues to open and replace. That could definitely be improved.

(Most students are not careful no matter how many times you remind them. They are too busy concentrating on their art piece.)We very quickly end up with an excellent sharpener by itself in a clear plastic cup so that we can continue using it.I wish that it just came with the sharpener and barrel without the tab and slot (no fancy lid or grip either). I used to be able to get ones that screwed on and off and that was a much better design and a different brand, but they are no longer available. Next year I think that I am just going with a good quality metal sharpener that I will put in generic plastic cups since that I what I always end up with.If you are using the sharpener just for yourself, then this product truly is a good one.

Great sharpener!
23 March 2022

I tried several brands of colored pencils, finding some had to be sharpened with an electric sharpener.I finally settled on the Prismascolor Premier colored pencils. This sharpener is fantastic for sharpening almost any kind of pencil, the Prismacolor Premier colored pencils as well as regular "lead" pencils (ok, graphite, HB #2, the kind schools all want). The different sharpening holes give me different points for different effects with my colored pencils.Yes, it can be hard to open, especially at first. When first using it, I've found holring it in both hand abd using both thumbs, one on either side of the indentation on the top edge, is the easiest way to open the new sharpener. After using it for a week or so, I can open it with the thumb on the hand holding the sharpener over the trash can. I can then catch the top, to empty the whole thing with one hand. I sometimes forget to check the sharpener to see how full it is. It will hold the shavings from dozens of pencils, which just compact into the bottom, so I sometimes have to tap it against the side of the trash can to dump everything.Even when the blade is starting to get full, it still gives a good tip to most of my colored pencils, until I can buy another sharpener.

I LOVE IT:))

Until I started drawing again, I couldn't figure out why each pencil sharpener worked differently: you would think they're one in the same. So when I needed to have a good point, a consistent good point, I searched for and wasted money on some that don't even deserve to have the name. That is until I stumbled upon this one when I was watching a video of blending with a particular type of pencil, it took some investigating, but I found it, and:IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY!! It has two holes, one for a softer point and the other for A SHARP POINT: with little effort, just a half twist to a full twist, literally, it's so smooth that sometimes I feel like it didn't work when it did. I can't rave enough about this, for those of you who are in need of a true pencil sharpener, ... MoreUntil I started drawing again, I couldn't figure out why each pencil sharpener worked differently: you would think they're one in the same. I was a bit disappointed
12 July 2022

I got this pencil sharpener for my local hobby lobby. I really didn't have any expectations because I had never seen anybody use it before. So I got it and once using it I thought it was great I love the angle ot sharpens at and it didn't break any of my pencils. But I eventually needed to empty the sharpener. Upon separation of the two pieces I noticed a couple cracks in the body of the sharpener where the lid goes on and I wasn't too bothered by that because it wasn't falling apart. But when I put the two pieces back together the cracks multiplied and after a few day it started to fall apart. But I still use the sharpeners separated from the body to this day.

IT REALLY WORKS!!
29 July 2022

I bought this a couple of month ago and it’s done wonders! I use the Prismacolor premier and it sharpens them beautifully. Add first the sharpener wasnt doing a great job but then I realized that I wasn’t using it in the right way. I was just going to the biggest sharpener and was getting not good results. But then I tried to start with the smaller sharpener then move to the bigger one, THAT WAS IT! It sharpened so well and was just amazing, from then now I didn’t have one issue with it! Would totally buy again!

Perfectly sharp colored pencils every time!
9 February 2023

This is an excellent pencil sharpener. It has a sleek design and a cover to keep things tidy. The cover is easy to open and doesn't cause all the pencil shavings to spill (as I've experienced with other sharpeners). This is a perfect pencil sharpener for any colored pencil artist that's looking to create quality artwork. The pencils come out unbroken and sharp every time!

I mean, REALLY hard to pop the cap off to empty shavings--and I only know HOW to pop the cap off thanks to another reviewer who looked it up online. Sharpens your pencils the way you want
29 July 2022

I bought this a few months ago, and have used it every single time I draw, it also works great with other types of pencils, not just Prismacolour premier pencils. I love how it features two different steal blades, one for a fine point and the other for a medium point. The blades in the sharpener stay sharp forever and have a large space in the sharpener so you don't have to empty it so often. Very much recommend getting this Product.
