Amazing hard lead Verithins!
24 July 2016

I am a colored pencil fanatic, and Prismacolor Verithins do not disappoint! I own the 132 set of Prismacolor Premier soft core pencils, as well as some other quality brands.I love the Verithins for coloring small details, outlining, blending, and using with mixed media.I have no problems with breakage, as mentioned by other reviewers. But, the Prismacolor website has a great video tutorial on sharpening. A wonderful tip I learned is: hold the pencil with one hand, and TURN THE SHARPENER with the other. That puts the pressure on the sharpener, instead of the pencil. Also, a quality, sharp blade sharpener, is key! The Prismacolor works great, as do other brands. The hard lead keeps a sharp tip, providing longer usage, and less sharpening. And, creating new colors by combining shades, is really fun... Another reviewer did a great explanation of this :) Also, Prismacolor's colorless blender (pencil, or marker), helps create beautiful results!I have been using the Verithins, nearly daily, for a few months, and they still look nearly brand new! I anticipate the Verithins to last a very long time! Thank you, Prismacolor, for another amazing product!

High level of precision, saturated pretty quickly

I've tried this on mixed media paper over charcoal, as well as on a manila envelope. It's a sharp line, the pencil sharpens nicely. I thought it got the point where I could no put down any more pigment fairly quickly for a pencil known for being less waxy than most colored pencils. #sweepstakes

I would buy this product again

Nice Color pencils
22 September 2020

Prismacolor Premier Color Pencils are very nice pencils. I love the beautiful colors. They feel nice in my hands. They are easy to use and very lightweight. These pencils are great for coloring, outlining, detailing, and lettering. I love the packaging the pencils came in. The only thing I didn’t like is they came unsharpened. I felt it took to much time sharpening each pencil and my hands got tired from sharpening the pencils. Overall the pencils are great and good quality. I am glad I got the opportunity to try and review these color pencils through TryItSampling in exchange for my honest opinion.

Seems no alternative to hard lead colored pencil
11 January 2019

Their lead is hard and stays on sharp point for a long time, so it is good for detailing like making cross-hatches or shading. I like how it leave pencil marks when other softer pencils are laid over them. They are bit translucent so it goes well with my other Blick Studio and Lyra Rembrandt colored pencils. It has its cons, like lead are fragile and came with only paper cardboard case that I bought separate sturdy Global Art Materials pencil roll-up, And 10 of them have poor lightfastness out of 40 limited ranged colors. To find alternative hard lead pencils, I tried few pencils from Derwent Studio and Caran D'ache Pablo. However, Studio pencils are not that pigmented and Pablo doesn't leave pencil marks I wanted. Sharing my thoughts as a serious colorer
3 June 2016

First, I am a hobbyist looking for top quality pigments I can blend, use multiple layers to add or change colors, combine to use my own unique colors, and create depth with shading creating realistic colorings of ink drawings. I do own both the 132 Prismacolor Premiers (softer, waxier leads) & the 36 Verithin set. This review is for the Verithins. The Verithins are my perfect choice for multiple layers and blending, so they are not only for fine point work. In fact, they are my favorite for most coloring projects. While the highest number in a Verithin set is 36, you can easily combine the provided colors to create dozens of other colors. The colors provided in the 36 count set are awesome. You will learn all their names and easily recognize what you want to use, and combine. I feel it is important to have varying colors that are not necessarily too close in shade; colors placed next to and blended in transition need to be different enough to provide depth to the eye for framed work that is viewed from a distance (such as framed work hung on a wall). The provided colors in the 36 set are absolutely well thought out by Prismacolor. Please know that Prismacolor guarantees their pencils too. I have compared competitor brands as well. Prismacolor has high quality pigments, bright depth of colors, and is my favorite go to for coloring. I highly recommend this set.

So So
6 July 2017

I bought the Prismacolor Verithin in early June of 2017 and here it is just after the 4th of July and I am just getting around to making my color swatches for the product. What I have come across is that a few of the pencils have the core broken inside the wood case. So no mater how careful you are in sharpening those few pencils, they will fall out of the case. I found this by dissecting the pencil and finding the fault lines in the core of one of the pencils showing the same symptoms. Very frustrating and aggravating. Spending hard won money on faulty product is never a pleasant experience. The joy of new product is sure damped with this revelation. I will be interested to see what remedy Blick's or Prismacolor can help with. Spending hard won money on faulty product is never a pleasant experience. The joy of new product is sure damped with this revelation. I will be interested to see what remedy Blick's or Prismacolor can help with. The pencils that I have had issues with are # 759 Magenta, #746 1/2 Tuscan Red,#747 Black, # 739 1/2 Olive Green, # 742 1/2 Parma Violet, # 735 1/2 Lemon Yellow. So, i had problems with 6 of the 36 pencils, or I got 30 good pencils to add to my kit. Got my swatches completed for the pencils that I can use and and I am very happy with the 30 good pencils, just wish they could have been 36 good ones. I would not recommend these to a friend, I would suggest that they barrow mine and see what they think on their own and see if they live up to the expected use. The ones that work will work fine.

Very good colored pencils for outlining and detail work
5 April 2020

I purchased these pencils as a supplement to the softer Prismacolor artists' pencils that I have been using for years. I am using the Verithin pencils to outline images prior to laying down color with the "standard" Prismacolor pencils, as well as to do fine detail work that requires a sharper, harder point. They have been very good for this. The only thing I will say against these pencils (which is true of the other Prismacolor pencils as well) is that the leads often fracture during sharpening, requiring multiple sharpenings and the loss of a fair amount of pencil before I can get a good point on them again. Aside from that the product is excellent, and Blick's price (around $15) dramatically undercut craft store prices of $40-$45 for the same set.

Very nice for detailed work and lines
12 January 2023

I love the shape and size! It has a really nice look and feel. These are harder that the usual prismacolor so they don't break as easily when sharpened. I think these are lovely for detailed work though the pigment was a bit drier than other brands. It may be a fluke but I still like it and can find many uses for them in art.

Wish these were break-resistant!!
3 April 2017

I LOVE how I can get a very thin, sharp line. I use these pencils often when mixing colored pencils or even brands. Sometimes they're great for a bottom started layer and sometimes they're best as a top coat that smooths out the overall pencil texture. I really like the hexagonal shape (doesn't roll off the desk). The main problem with the Prismacolor Verithins is that they are, well, Prismacolors-- the leads break way too easily. Too often. I've tried all the techniques (microwave, freezer, ultra-gentle handling) and none help much or at all. It's a good thing they're inexpensive, since I end up buying so many of them!! I wish Prismacolor would change whatever it is that's missing in their leads and even in the wood, that make the pencils so dang breakable. Yes, ... MoreI LOVE how I can get a very thin, sharp line. Yes, I've tried many different types of sharpeners, and mainly learned all about sharpening pencils well; Prismas just are not break-resistant and it's a shame.
