I bought this item as a replacement for my damaged toner. It works good as my old one. Good for identifying wires and for continuity check.

I bought this tool to track down an open circuit in my newly purchased home. Built in 84 and renovated after. I lost power to an outlet in my garage. Did a little troubleshooting and came yo no end. Bought this tool, hooked it up to the dead wires of my outlet. And very easily traced my wires behind Sheetrock up the wall, into the next room along the ceiling into a hallway, into another room and into the bathroom. This particular outlet was fed from a gfci circuit in my bathroom that had tripped. Problem solved and I didnt have to crawl in my attic to resolve the issue... making this my new favorite tool.

I had to replace a dead outlet. After wiring the new outlet, the receptacle tester was indicating an open neutral condition. I wasn't sure which way was up stream of the line. I connected the tone generator to the line and used the probe which was able to detect the tone through the drywall, and was able to trace it to the source, to find the neutral wire detached from the wire nut. I used the push connectors to re-terminate the wires, and was back in business. This is a nice kit to have!

I purchased this tool because I had nothing like it. I could not find a wire in a truck wiring loom. I used this tool to confirm the wire I was looking for did not exit in the wiring loom. So I had to run a new wire. This tool has a lot of power and can or will inject tone (bleed) in adjacent wires. While the tone in adjacent wires is not as strong as the wire it is attached to, it can be a bit confusing if the actual wire that is being identified at one end, is the same wire at the other end. Using the tool and gaining some experience with will be helpful.
I wanted to extend an existing 220 circuit in my house with more outlets. There were about a dozen wires within the box that I wanted to extend, and I had no good way to figure out which ones were the ones I wanted without taking off all the wire nuts, measuring, and switching all breakers on and off. Instead I got this kit, turned the relevant circuit off, hooked the toner up to the outlet, and found the right wires in 10 seconds. No need to touch anything, or switch any circuits off except the one that I needed. Great time saver, super easy to operate. The signal was crystal clear (admittedly it only had to travel maybe 75 feet) and there could be no doubt whatsoever regarding which wire was carrying the signal. It helped me figure out what Verizon did to my house wiring! We started getting a "hum" on our phone lines when I was away on a business trip. My wife called in a tech from Verizon. Not only did he not fix the problem, he disconnected the phone line to working receivers! So I needed a device like this to figure out what was broken and try to piece together my phone lines. The Fluke kit has a RJ11 connector for easy testing of phone lines and I was able to figure out what was disconnected. The only thing that I wish it had was a RJ45 connector for network troubleshooting. The work around is to use a CAT 5 (or CAT 6) cable with the other end stripped and use the alligator clips. Other than that it works well.
I used this pro3000 to locate and isolate lines that were bundled together and mixed. My electrician had cut all the cables on the outside of the circuit breaker box. I just connected the unit to the end of the outlet wires and toned cables and could find the cable that matched. This is a very simple tool to use for tracing and locating wires. My only drawback is that the package did have an instruction manual and does not come with the 2 nine volt batteries required. This is a must have tool for anyone that does electrical work.
Perfect tool for my problem. Everything on one circuit from my breaker box quit working, but the breaker was ok. Had voltage at the output of the breaker but not at any of the switches or plugs it feeds. Decided it had to be a broken wire somewhere in the attic but under all that insulation. The tools for finding a breaker wouldn’t work since they require a plug with power and mine were all dead. So I found this gadget. It won’t work on a powered line so I pulled the breaker out of the box for safety and attached the pinger to the wire. Quickly found the area where the signal died by just walking around and pointing the receiver at the ceiling. Found a junction box in the attic that had a broken wire nut and loose wire. Took 5 minutes to find it with this tool. ... MorePerfect tool for my problem. Everything on one circuit from my breaker box quit working, but the breaker was ok. The feature I like best is when the toner is at the other end and I short the pair the tone changes if I have a good connection.Since I have to set the toner end behind furniture and other obstacles they are easy to loose.I now have 4 of them because I have been getting them back!(Honest customers return them.)2 sets are best but I have to have 1 to do my job. I've dropped toners from 10 ft ladders....they keep working(don't drop the probe). A must for phone data cabling.
This tool is amazing, I should have bought one years ago. I work at a hotel that opened in 1963, so you can imagine the refurbishes and years of changes that this facility has gone through. I was unsure if the tones would get the exact set of wires in a bundle, but I was simply amazed at how accurate and quick this tool really is. To then find the ground as easy, unhook your bundle inside the wire and touch them to the hot and the tone disappears when the proper ground is found. Saves a ton of time. What a relief to find a tool that works as advertised. Fluke is a great brand name, this is one of their excellent tools that is extremely affordable and very user friendly.
