The AMD Ryzen 3 4100 processor is a powerful and fast central processing unit (CPU) for your computer. It has four cores and eight threads, which means it can handle multiple tasks at once without slowing down. The CPU has a base clock speed of 3.8GHz, which is how fast it can run without any extra effort. It can also reach a turbo speed of 4.0GHz, which means it can work even faster when needed. The Ryzen 3 4100 is built using the advanced Zen 2 architecture and a 7nm manufacturing process. The CPU is designed to fit into the AM4 socket on your motherboard. It has an unlocked core multiplier which allows you to overclock the processor and push it beyond its default performance limits. This can give you an even faster and more responsive computer. The CPU comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler included in the box, which helps keep the temperature of your CPU under control. The max TDP of the CPU is 65W, which is the maximum amount of power it is designed to use. The Ryzen 3 4100 supports DDR4 memory, which is the type of RAM your computer uses. It can handle memory speeds of up to 3200MHz, which means the RAM can work faster and keep up with the CPU. The CPU has two memory channels which can help with multitasking. The AMD Ryzen 3 4100 is a great choice for anyone looking for a powerful and affordable CPU for their computer. Whether you're gaming, browsing the web, or doing anything else on your computer, the Ryzen 3 4100 will help you get things done quickly and efficiently.

This 4-core, 4-thread CPU will overclock to around 4GHz without much effort (and without much extra voltage or extra cooling). I was running mine at 3.9GHz with the stock Stealth cooler and it was a great step up from my previous AMD Phenom 2 955 (@3.7GHz). Overall this is a good modern 4-core CPU and per core it will run as fast, or faster than the bigger brothers in the Ryzen range. The caveat is that when buying secondhand, you can get an R5 1600X (6-core, 12-thread) for only a little more and that will stomp all over this in certain applications that can use more than the 4 threads (eg. video encoding). If your budget will only run to this CPU then my advice would be to buy it and use it as a placeholder until you can afford an R5 or R7 CPU. Ryzen's respond well to increased RAM speed, so pair this with the fastest that you can afford (and overclock the RAM too if you can).

This is a alright CPU. Can still he decent for modern games. However you need to pair it with a decent GPU. You see the more work you give the GPU. The less stress on this CPU. So for example this would be great paired with that aims for 1440p and high settings. As the GPU will be doing most of the work. However if you pair this with a card and aim for 1080 medium. Then the cpu will get most of the work and playing modern titles like this will make this cpu be under 100% load all the time witch is not good.

Cheap, low power using processor
9 September 2017

This processor and the R3 1200 exist as an inexpensive means to get into a AM4 platform where overall processor performance isn't the priority. Not really meant to go head to head against intel's lower end processors, the next gen Raven Ridge APU is meant for that task. A lot of people will point out that you have to buy a separate graphic card, but if your actually gaming on this processor your going to want an actual graphic card as the built-in gpu's that you may find on certain processors have pretty poor performance. I have extra video cards laying around so I didn't care about a built-in gpu. I built a file server with this processor. I could of used the 1200 instead, but I like leaving myself some headroom for the future and spending an extra twenty dollars ... MoreThis processor and the R3 1200 exist as an inexpensive means to get into a AM4 platform where overall processor performance isn't the priority. I have a few extra AM3 compatible heatsinks laying around and used a ZALMAN CNPS9500A that had never been used. Needless to say, at stock speed with that cooler on it, there is no problem keeping it running super-cool. That stock cooler that comes with it would be perfectly fine to use at stock speed, but if you are going to overclock, do yourself, and your CPU a favor and buy a better heatsink.

Excellent Budget Processor

Let's kick this off with the good. This processor offers excellent performance for the price. CPU and GPU performance are significantly better than AMDs previous generation APUs and this chip handily beats Intels offerings at this price point. I like the fact that this processor uses the AM4 socket which makes it nice and easy to upgrade to a processor like a Ryzen 7 down the road. I also like the fact that this processor is unlocked and overclockable. Now for the not-so-great. My biggest complaint about this processor is software compatibility. With this being a relatively new platform there aren't too many monitoring programs (such as Core Temp) that seamlessly support this chip. There are also frequent BIOS and firmware updates that make noticeable improvements. At one point I installed a BIOS update and noticed a 30 point jump in the Cinebench score. My only other complaint about this product would be the cooler; while significantly quieter than AMD coolers of yore, it is not silent and it does have to ramp the fan a fair bit to keep even a stock frequency chip cool under load. In terms of overclocking, I was a bit disappointed by the experience. I was able to push the chip to 4GHz but it took a good amount of voltage to get there which meant the temps were a little higher than I was hoping for. Still, I was happy with the speeds I was able to achieve. The disappointment came with software and ease of overclocking. I have been spoiled by overclocking on Intel platforms where temperatures all report correctly and voltages and multipliers are easy to adjust. Ryzen Master was not great; at one point I hit some instability that caused a system lock and the settings would not reset. I ended up just uninstalling the program and overclocking from the Bios. As a note, if you want to overclock, you need a better cooler. Now for some performance numbers. These tests were run at stock settings with a set of dual channel 2667MHz DDR4. In Cinebench I saw an average CPU score of 568. In 3DMark Fire Strike, my chip scored an overall 2591 with 2859 in graphics, 7654 in physics, and 962 in combined. In gaming tests this chip was able to run most games in 1080p on medium settings between 30 and 60FPS. Overall, I was pretty impressed for integrated graphics. To see how the integrated graphics compared to a dedicated GPU, I plugged a GTX660 into the system. I used an older, lower end gaming card in order to stick with the budget upgrade theme. With the dedicated graphics card in place, gaming performance almost exactly doubled when tested with the same settings as with the integrated graphics. In games where the integrated graphics pulled 30FPS, the dedicated card pulled 60FPS. There was one big thing that I noticed in my testing though - in games that are CPU intensive like GTA V and Cities: Skylines, the CPU hit 100% usage and began to bottleneck the GPU. With these results in mind, I wouldn't pair this chip with anything more powerful than a GTX1050 or 1050ti. Overall, this is an excellent processor. It is a huge improvement over AMDs previous generation APUs and makes a perfect chip to drop into a budget build. This is my go-to chip for basic, budget friendly, builds. As long as you are not looking for high-end performance or all of the FPS, I highly recommend this processor.

I highly recommend a 400 series board. I had to fo for x470 as B450 isn't suppose to launch for a month ot two and I can no longer wait. My B350 died and bought this while RMA takes 14-35 days. :( But the 300 series boards aren't fully compatible yet and it is a big ordeal to get this chip to work on any 300 series board. Requires motherboard BIOS update. So you'll need a second chip to update the motherboard on 300 series boards if the BIOS hasn't been updated yet. My 2200G had poor GPU. At 2,400MHz RAM and 1,100MHz GPU, the games did fairly well, but lagged on most titles. You'll need to upgrade to faster RAM, and overclock the GPU for best results. Maybe sure to get a decent budget heatsink so you can overclock it. It will be worth it for the extra 20-30 dollars for a good heatsink. But I have to replace this for my Cities: Skylines and a few other games that need the extra hypertheading cores for the simulation. But most basic games it will do well with 60ish FPS on medium setting and medium screen resolution. 720p or 1600 x 900.

Used this in a below $600 build for the Mrs. and could not be happier. With the ridiculous money graphics cards are demanding this is a match made in heaven and so affordable its truly amazing . I am the hardware geek who builds rigs for all of the family, sound familiar ? If your the same this will make you a star with the Mrs. Mom and Dad or any other family member who does not truly require some serious horsepower. Was probably the easiest build I have ever done and certainly the easiest to date. Great processor and if you are considering on putting together a exceptional budget build and don't require some very serious horsepower go for it you will not be disappointed. It will be quiet in your new one bedroom apartment when you are single and alone. No one will hear your incessant mumbling s about Vega and raven bridge and trusting AMD. You may want to commit suicide! You may find yourself screaming at your family as any empathy for all things disappears. You may write 1 Egg reviews for other companies products then think... I wonder if it was really DOA? None of my Motherboards will post with this CPU so pretty useless at the moment. My 10 year olds first build so suck's that it had to go this way saved all of his money all summer. He was so excited about building his first PC. They should pull all the CPU's and fix them or start a bonfire. If anyone wants to add me to their class action lawsuit feel free.

Plenty of power

Don't wast time or money looking for fast memory. I put the GSkill Ripjaw V memory in it. Running on ASUS mother board. Yep that memory is on the QVL list. Motherboard detects it just fine and sets everything up to run it at 32000. When I do that the system is not stable. Can get it though Cynabench, but machine crashed later running Minecraft. Tried adjusting the frequency down. Ended up at 28000 to get AIDA64 tests to not detect hardware failure. At that speed, my system is slower that just letting the mother board use defaults (2133 with faster CAS timings.) Was able to run this chip at 3.8 Ghz on all cores for 5 hours before it crashed AIDA64. Speed at default settings is really good. And am happy with that. True quad-core processor for a reasonable price.

Can't speak to Windows usage, but on Linux using a Gnome plugin called CPUFreq, I can set my system to "Performance" and get 3.6 GHz all cores under full load (Blender renders), and single core boosts to 3.7+ GHz. This is using default automatic settings in my MSI B450M BIOS, not overclocking with MSI Game Boost nor manual multiplier adjustments. I can also choose to set "Power Saving" mode for those times I'm just web browsing. I spent some time tweaking the fan profiles in BIOS. At first the fan noise seemed to be too much at idle speeds. This has more to do with the MSI defaults than the Ryzen CPU, however. All in all, a very satisfied customer. I'll be looking to upgrade to newer Ryzen processors in the future.
