Profitec Pro 400

The Profitec Pro 400 is a machine with an excellent build quality and design against other similar machines in its price range and cheaper by a long shot as well. Profitec machines are designed and built by hand in Germany and it shows! Very compact but hefty – nearly 50lbs – so not easy to move ! It takes up surprisingly little kitchen space. Interchangeable colours disks for the steam and hot water knobs are included - gimmicky in my opinion – I would have preferred more blackish stylish disks but that is personal taste. It has a large 2.8L water tank, accessible from the top of the machine but refilling requires that you need to lift off the entire top panel to access the water tank- bit of a hassle. The single and double spouted portafilters are heavy and of very good quality BUT I find the single side spout portafilter uncomfortable to handle-it is off balance etc.The drip tray doesn’t just slide straight out, you need to tilt it, and this limits the volume capacity of the tray and spilling is an issue.Having said all of the above – and quoting another reviewer - this is a dream machine with pre-infusion, temperature adjustment, a big water tank, easy access to pressure adjustment…. and they’ve put it into an attractive, well-built, and competitively priced package-DEFINITELY 5 STARS ! I have ordered the machine on a Tuesday and delivery from the other side of the country by Friday-EXCELLENT service by iDrinkCoffee - they also have an excellent You Tube video on the machine!!!

Just got this machine after using another heat exchange unit for 8 years. It's a good looking unit, compact, and has simple but useful features. You can easily tweak the brew pressure - I lowered mine from 9.5 to 8 bars. You can also choose from three temperature modes - I prefer lighter roasts and will probably use the second one most of the time, but having two other modes for dark roast coffee and turbo frothing is quite useful too. The results are amazing: after dialing the machine in, I was able to pull consistent espresso shots superior to any I had made before. Frothing power is sufficient in the second mode for single drinks and turbo mode for doubles. I'd give this machine five stars if it weren't for a very small drip tray. It is so shallow, upon discharge the water splashes in-front of the machine requiring a mop up after every shot. It's disappointing. Wish Profitec made a tray a bit deeper to prevents this.

Very nice machine, and in a very compact size.The quality of the Pro 400 is apparent from the outside, but it continues inside as well. It's a very well put together machine and has all the features most people would need. The internals are thoughtfully laid out, making future servicing easy.The high pressure water path is all metal, only using plastic hosing from the reservoir to the pump, from the (externally adjustable) OPV back to the res, and the waste water hose from the vacuum release that leads to the drip tray.The 3 way temperature switch is a great alternative to a fully controllable PID , giving all the temperature accuracy and consistency of one but without the need to go through cryptic menus. Really the only downside is the lack of a shot timer, but I used my scale for that anyway.The water reservoir is quite sizeable so it wont need to be filled constantly, but I would love the drip tray to be a bit deeper, especially as it needs to be angled up slightly to be removed. Would love to see a V2 have a drip tray that could be slid straight out, maybe held in place by a couple magnets.No surprise to anyone but this will make as great espresso as you let it, but thats true for pretty much any machine of this class, and you have the option of a flow control kit if you want even more variables to obsess over.Great piece of kit.
