A DREAM MACHINE !

The Profitec Pro 400 is a machine with an excellent build quality and design against other similar machines in its price range and cheaper by a long shot as well. Profitec machines are designed and built by hand in Germany and it shows! Very compact but hefty – nearly 50lbs – so not easy to move ! It takes up surprisingly little kitchen space. Interchangeable colours disks for the steam and hot water knobs are included - gimmicky in my opinion – I would have preferred more blackish stylish disks but that is personal taste. I have ordered the machine on a Tuesday and delivery from the other side of the country by Friday-EXCELLENT service by iDrinkCoffee - they also have an excellent You Tube video on the machine!!!

Just got this machine after using another heat exchange unit for 8 years. It's a good looking unit, compact, and has simple but useful features. You can easily tweak the brew pressure - I lowered mine from 9.5 to 8 bars. You can also choose from three temperature modes - I prefer lighter roasts and will probably use the second one most of the time, but having two other modes for dark roast coffee and turbo frothing is quite useful too. The results are amazing: after dialing the machine in, I was able to pull consistent espresso shots superior to any I had made before. Frothing power is sufficient in the second mode for single drinks and turbo mode for doubles. I'd give this machine five stars if it weren't for a very small drip tray. The first two temperatures are right where you would need to be for pretty much any roast type, and the last is great for getting extra steam pressure. Really the only downside is the lack of a shot timer, but I used my scale for that anyway. The water reservoir is quite sizeable so it wont need to be filled constantly, but I would love the drip tray to be a bit deeper, especially as it needs to be angled up slightly to be removed. Would love to see a V2 have a drip tray that could be slid straight out, maybe held in place by a couple magnets. No surprise to anyone but this will make as great espresso as you let it, but thats true for pretty much any machine of this class, and you have the option of a flow control kit if you want even more variables to obsess over.Great piece of kit.

Loving it
10 February 2023

I love my new Profitec400! Its small footprint , high quality build, fast heat up time, excellent steam power , and aesthetics are all perfect for home brewing. I did plenty of research before deciding on this machine, and it offered all the features I would want , at a better price than competitors with the same features.Being new to brewing my own espresso on a machine like this, this machine provides a perfect mid -ground of control, without adding in too much complexity with alternating variables that may make it difficult to learn; hence the reason I opted for the version without flow control. Down the line, if I decide I want it, it’s nice that it’s easily able to be affixed if you should want; but at this time don’t regret not getting flow control. The ... MoreI love my new Profitec400! Brew a shot in the lowest setting, switch to highest for max steam pressure, and you have plenty of power to steam enough milk for multiple drinks. I usually leave on low to middle position, and have no issues for stream whatsoever.Overall, great machine, high quality, well packaged, and sure is fun to use! I would purchase again :)

Profitec Pro 400

We chose this fine machine for its build quality, the handy switch to three different temperatures and its pre-infusion with pause. Alternative Brewing listed it at a competitive price and for next-day delivery. It has lived up to its reputation for accurate brewing and ease of operation. It was well packed, was easy to set up with the correct brewing pressure, and came with a one and a two spout portafilter, a single and a double shot basket and a blind. The steaming wand has a two-hole tip, so we might change this for a 3 or 4, but generally it is an excellent machine and top value. Thank you Alternative Brewing for stocking it and for prompt delivery.Chris and Josie Swan

So far so good. Wow!

So far so good.Wow! I’m a newbie. And this machine is really something. I only started today and I have to say I’m liking everything about this.I turned it on as directed in the manual and then programmed the pre infusion activation as directed. Smooth. Lights flash as indicated and then I poured my first shot. I used the same set up on my grinder as I had found to be good in my previous expresso machine-a cheap DeLonghi—and i hit it pretty much on the nose.30 seconds, 18 grams in and about 42 grams out—- not bad at all. So that’s what they mean by the taste of hazelnuts. I’m sure I can do better as I work on that, but this is a great starting point. The machine is beautiful to look at. It’s clean, it’s very smooth. The cups get hot on the tray above the boiler. Everything seems to be smooth and easy. The thing you really only notice is when the boiler refills itself with the vibration pump. Everything else is smoother and easy. Even that only takes a few seconds and isn’t a big deal or even a “small” deal.I found my decaf a bit of a challenge this evening. A bit more bitterness than I’d like but it’s a dark roast and different from the smoother medium roast I drink in the morning. I feel like I can get that worked out without any issues once I feel that I’m getting consistency with everything. This machine is a tremendous machine…..sturdy, very serious, and clearly easy to use. I think it can be a winner for anyone who wants to up their game without feeling like they’ve cleaned out their 401k. Since it also comes with the WLL installation of the flow control upgrade will allow me to easily grow with my machine.First impression…….sturdy, attractive, well made. easy to use, and plenty of opportunity to up your game with a machine that will be able to grow with you.I’ll check in later if I have anything more to say, but for now-it’s a beauty!

So happy with this purchase
22 August 2022

This is an incredible machine the build quality is top notch and I could not be happier with this purchase. I upgraded from my Gaggis classic which I’ve had for several years and I can make really good cappuccinos with it but after finally taking the plunge and buying this Prosumer machine I understand the difference. I’ve had at least four espresso machines in the past which were all kitchen appliances including the Gaggia classic which is a next level appliance that works very well for making espresso drinks. But this Profitec pro 400 is an actual machine. From the size and build quality to the operation they are all just next level and so well done. When the pump turns on it’s like a generator is turning on. Upgraded from a Bambino. Totally worth it!
18 June 2023

We upgraded from a Breville Bambino so this is a huge upgrade! After using it for about a month here's what we noticed:- With the same grinder (Lagom Mini) and coffee (normally medium/medium-dark), there's more crema and richer, more pronounced flavor with the Profitec.- Even with the same grind setting, we get no channeling with a bottomless portafilter and a precision basket of the same brand we've been using with the Bambino.- Our pulls are much more consistent with 9.5 bars of pressure.- Steaming milk is easier and more efficient. You can even steam milk and pull espresso at the same time.My only complaint is controls are a bit cramped. Hot water spout tends to get in the way. It's just something to get used to.Overall, quite the investment but totally ... MoreWe upgraded from a Breville Bambino so this is a huge upgrade! Upgraded from a Gaggia Classic Pro. I wanted my next machine to be a stainless steel boiler (partly for health reasons).PID was important but not a deal breaker. the three way switch is fantastic for switching from dark and medium roasts. Keeps temps perfect for brewing consistent shots. No more temp surfing. I will be adding a group thermometer in the near future. The pre infusion was something I didn’t need, but I am really liking it and is a bonus.Best of all, our family used to like steamed milk, which was one of the poorer things on the Gaggia, now we love our frothy steamed milk and flat whites. The only downside was the heat up time.
