I have shot every brand of speedlight reasonably available (because there are so many knockoffs...) and these are the most reliable, best by as far as they are high priced. I think the original marketing that they are portable studio lights is ridiculous. But these A10s are steadfast performers from beginning to end, I love them, they have made me a better photographer because I no longer have to worry about misfires, I can just work with my subjects. These speedlights are so dependable. They rarely misfire when used at a reasonable frame rate. I use them with grids, rarely with gels, they do give off a blue-ish tint sometimes compared to environmental light. Versus the real air remotes, I prefer the real ones because they are lighter. But sometimes you need to switch quickly from front flash to controlling lights and this is very handy.Things that could be better:-price, I mean, they are expensive if you break them. I've broken one of three so far due to a stand falling over (the hotshoe broke)-battery life is not the best and the batteries are expensive. I don't remember how much other li-on batteries cost but these are kinda pricey. However in my experience overshooting, as I do, two batteries will carry me for a wedding, three if I really go nuts with high powered flashes and need an extra battery to reduce my worrying (not sure i'd need it)-expensive adapters for bigger modifiers, or expensive and limited modifiers. IDK why you might want a strip box on one of these, but if you do it will cost you a lot for an adapter. I currently own everything except barn doors and it's all pretty great. The profoto modifiers are amazing and the magnet mounts are fantastic, way better than other competitors.

In over a decade of shooting weddings and working with a variety of systems, this is one of the worst flashes I've ever used. The TTL function will give you different results, the light is under powered and lacks features. For example it's not possible to have this light be a simple slave by use of pocket wizard or optical trigger. It's radio only which means that you're not going to mix it with any other studio lighting if you need a small light as an accent somewhere. The unit does not remember your previous TTL settings so once you shut it off, you need to dial in the numbers again. The only thing it has going for it is that the metal foot is sturdy and works in Sony's hotshoe which was poorly engineered. This flash is about as terrible as they get.

So far, really good. MUCH better recharge/recovery time than my older, Canon Speedlite and being able to quickly use the power dial to adjust in fast moving wedding ceremonies and receptions has been incredible. It may be twice the price but it's also twice the performer, so to me it all balances out. I had considered getting the Godox speedlite but just kept hearing about other photographers still missing too many shots because of slow recharge times. This is my first Profoto purchase but most certainly NOT my last! Highly recommended! :)

First time I charged the battery and during first test run the light smelled hot. Then went to use A10 at a wedding reception, battery lasted for an hour and half. Then the next time I tried to use at another session again the smell of something burning, and it started to feel hot and then stopped working. When it did work, it worked great. Just very disappointed that something I paid so much for to use in my fall weddings stopped working after 2 uses.
I have many profoto lights like A1, A1X, B10. Brought 1st A10 with the excitement of using with new bluetooth remote . but this unit is defective. when I switch between manual and TTL, it's not working. I returned for an exchange. hope I get a replacement soon.
Firstly I must state that dealing WEX was first rate though in dealing with the issues experienced. The first A10 exhibited a number of issues, the main one being underexposed images when shooting in TTL mode on the Nikon D850 & D700. Further, the switch that selects manual or TTL moved too freely causing issues, then the battery required charging four time during a three hundred shoots and no all at full power. The replacement unit still underexposed the images in TTL mode by up to q.4 stops, the other issues such poor battery life and switching between manual and TTL were fineThe zoom ring was a rather sloppy affair but the repeat exposure accuracy in manual mode was very good. The maximum flash output power was also disappointing falling short of old Nikon ... I use the A10 as a studio light AND an on camera flash. As a studio light, I didn't think being able to control my A10 flash through the ProfotoControl app like I do with my B10s was going to be a big deal. But frankly it is a game changer! Having ALL my lights, big and small, controlled through the ProfotoControl app allows me to use the right sized light for each situation. One small example is combining the A10 and B10 for portraits. Using the A10 to add a background light, or an edge light for separation, is perfect when working in small spaces. For my architecture work, the control saves tons of time fiddling with power output of an A10 placed in obscure locations to add just the right pop of light to a space. Once you start using the A10 you'll wonder how you lived without them!I've only just begun to explore using the A10s with my smartphone through the ProfotoCamera app. Connecting my A10s was really easy and it was fun to shoot well lit images with the smartphone. It's not something I use often, but I can see how it could be useful and I'm finding more ways to do so. Especially when the image delivery needs to be instant! The A10 has a ton of features and is a great addition to my lighting kit!
I've been a full-time professional photographer for 25 years using Canon equipment. Until I bought this unit I had always used Canon flashes. The A10 worked fine for the first three times I used it. Then the head stopped firing in the middle of an event. I emailed ProFoto for warranty support but am not hearing back from them.I suppose a return for credit is out of the question, but that's what I would most like. Second choice would be an even swap for a new A10 unit. Warranty repair would be OK, but I'm not enthusiastic about a brand-new product that fails on its 3rd time out.Reliability is one of the factors that is most important to me. Even though the A10's features are impressive, and it appears durable, now I know I can't really count on this flash, and will be going back to Canon as my primary gear.I tried the iPhone feature. It's difficult to hold the iPhone and then take the photo by holding the flash unit. Need a better solution for this to really work well.I very rarely break my own rule of not using 3rd-party equipment, and this incident has reminded me why. Canon may not have the best flash unit, but they have the most reliable one.A product that carries the ProFoto name and costs $1,000 should be a five-star product. I'm very, very disappointed.
So, the first question on most people's minds is why buy a Profoto A10 and not buy a Godox V1for about 1/3rd the price (I do own several Godox units). I love Godox as far as performance to dollars goes. I hate Godox in terms of its interface. But the main reason why I needed the Profoto A10 AirTTL-N for Nikon is to use it with my Hasselblad X2D100C camera. I use both Canon and Hasselblad systems (also Leica but that is astory for a different day). I use multiple Godox flash units and they work flawlessly on my Canon system both in TTL and on HSS. No problem at all between Canon & Godox communicating with each other. However, this is not the case with my Hasselblad and Godox. No problem at all between Canon & Godox communicating with each other. However, this is not the case with my Hasselblad and Godox. A single Godox V1n on my Hasselblad X2D 100C works flawlessly until you try to introduce multiple Godox flash units to usein TTL mode. The Godox system just does not work at all with multiple Godox flashes in TTL or HSS mode on the Hasselblad system. TTL is disabled and I can only sync multiple strobes manual. I have also tried the same with a complete set of Nikon flashes and the results are the same. Now you're thinking. Why not just use it manually...Of course I can just make adjustments and shoot on manual (been shooting this way for 30 years - I'm getting old LOL) but sometimes lifejust moves too fast for manual and TTL is the way to go. The Profoto system has no issues with multiple flash units used in conjunction with my Hasselblad X2D 100C in any flash mode. I can choose TTL, HSS and Manual on multiple flashesand everything just works together without any issues (make sure all your firmware is updated).I love the Profoto interface for its simplicity and usefulness. So, is the Profoto quality of light output better than Godox? I would say no. In terms of light quality and power they are on par with one another. The built quality of the materials usedon Profoto is slightly better in my opinion. The tolerances of fit and finish on the Profoto is also better. The phone apps for Profoto are simple and elegant and easy to use. Firmware updates areextremely easy to connect the flash via Bluetooth to your phone and hit a button on the Profoto phone app and you're done.So... Still, you're probably thinking why pay more if I can get around it. Well, I like using an expensive Leica camera and I don't mind paying more for the user experience and this is where Profoto outshines Godox. The entire experience is important! Easy interface, easy phone apps, easy customer support when needed. They respond ina reasonable time frame. If you are like me and don't mind paying for nicer things in life, try out the Profoto and just enjoy the experience or if you're frugal and want to save a few bucks go and buy the Godox. If you're not needing the extra features that work with my Hasselblad and are happy with its performance. The Godox will serve you well. I'll be keeping both systems for different reasons.
I'm a full-time pro. I bought this A10 for power, simplicity and reliability. I've been very happy until I shot my first event in a dark room. It was an evening cocktail reception. The focus assist wouldn't work in auto mode. I tried everything I knew and couldn't get it to work. Long story short: I contacted Profoto and they know about this issue with Nikon Z series cameras.I never saw this caveat in any literature from them or any review I read. This flash is completely USELESS in low light if you're using a Nikon Z series body.I'm so very disappointed in Profoto.
