OCF softboxes create a soft, flattering light and are quick and easy to set up for on-location shoots. Thanks to their unique materials, they are lightweight and easy to fold and unfold. This makes them very compact and portable. They fit easily into your transport bag for your flash equipment. In addition, the built-in diffuser, the patent-pending connection ring and the color-coded tension rods ensure a quick setup. The OCF Softbox Square is very popular in people photography, especially for head and shoulder portraits. Here it creates a flattering light with evenly soft edges on all sides that seems to envelop the model. Requires an OCF connection ring art. no. 68235 (sold separately). Important note: Only recommended for Profoto off-camera flash systems with LED modeling light. Not suitable for conventional flash heads or compact flashes.

Doesn't Hold Up Over Time

I've had three of these Softboxes for about a year. All three have had the same issue. The rods break through the corners. Once that happens, they are useless. I've already had a couple replaced, but the issue keep occurring. At first I thought it might just be a faulty product, but its happened to all three now. I can see the rods breaking through. This is surprising since a softbox is designed for tension. Also a separate issue, but the speed ring attachment is difficult to work with. I like that they affix so easily to lights, but they're impossible to break down and put together quickly. Overall not happy after owning these for a year.

I ordered both the 1' x 4' and 2' x 3' soft boxes. At almost $500 for the box/grid/OCF ring (which you need to use any Profoto softbox). I'm keeping the 2' x 3' as I think I'll get more use out of it and can't justify the cost of spending over $1,000 for strip-lights. Additionally, all this gear arrived in 5 different boxes and the packaging was overkill. B&H-please allow customers to choose an option to have gear shipped together. There's no need to create so much trash.

Bought this for my b10+, super light weight and perfect for travel or studio photography. One thing to note is that the front diffusion panel is sewed on and cannot be take off, only the inner diffusion baffel can be removed. I believe the RFI version of profoto's stripbox can have the front diffusion panel removed. It's really a non issue but, just something to note that doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. Also, the stripbox is kind of difficult to pack down once it's been assembled but otherwise this is a great light modifier!

Great for the Profoto system
1 May 2022

Like all Profoto products, this is nicely made and designed. Ultimately I ended up exchanging it though for an Rfi version, just because I realized that I would need that one in order to fit another speedring when I need to use a non-Profoto head in there. The OCF boxes are less universal and are made to only fit a tight OCF speedring.

Great softbox, just difficult to disasemble
6 July 2021

The light that comes out of this modifier is just beautiful.I do not like the rod system, it is hard to put together, but it is even harder to take apart after a full day of shooting!I have seen a lot of youtube videos on the best way to put it together and disassemble it and I am still struggling to take it apart, I hope with time the rods will soften a bit and the fabric will stretch to make it easier.

Nice job, Profoto
17 February 2023

This soft box works very well. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. But the big news isn't the soft box - it's the ingenious Profoto speed ring, which makes this 2x3' soft box (and the smaller 1.3' square one, which I also have) easy to set up and break down. And that means I'm happy to take the whole rig on location without any worries.

Poor Quality - Lasted 1 season - get your duct-tape out!
15 April 2022

I had very high expectations for this unit. I am a huge profoto user - I shoot B1x's and could not be happier with everything about my Profoto gear - except this thing!Setup isn't terribly difficult.I would call this very flimsy. Very light duty. This is not meant for the photographer on the go.If this goes up on a light and stand, and never moves around- you're probably fine to gain the full benefit of this for years to come.If you use your gear on the go- this does not hold up to travel. Since this is not meant to be quickly taken apart; once it is setup, the only way to transport it is to do so as seen in the photos - as it does not collapse easily. There are 4 rods that slide though slips which connect at one end into the speedring apparatus, and at the other end, there is a pocket made of reinforced stitched fabric. The unit creates its shape by bending the rods under slight pressure caused by these two endpoints. The end of the rod with fabric essentially wears through- and at this point all 4 rods have cut their ways through the fabric, leaving my unit entirely useless.I tried to reach out to customer service and they asked that I send it to them through the warranty process- fair enough- I should have done this and probably would have had them send me a new one...It barely lasted through the 1 year warranty period.I'm too busy to go around sending broken gear, and it wasn't even worth my time to do so.I was stuck on location when this popped through the ends, and put me in a pinch. I spent about 10 minutes duct-taping it just to get through my high volume work for that date.I subsequently had to tape all 4 corners as each one popped through one-by-one.Unfortunately they don't sell the part (Fabric portion) so I can't even replace that - I have to buy a whole new unit, and you guessed it - it won't be this one.I love Profoto - and am their biggest fan. But I am disappointed and will not buy any product in this line made of this quality.I stupidly purchased the grid that goes with it... $220+ for the unit, $140 more for a grid that is now useless as I don't have a working unit anymore.

Practice setting this one up
10 May 2022

The Profoto speed ring: you need to PRACTICE before getting any speed out of it - but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty great. Also: definitely get the grid for more control. Speed ring tips: 1. Sit down and use the floor or a table the first time you mount a softbox to a speed ring so you get an idea of where you need to press. 2. Position the speed ring against your body/chest when standing up.

Pricey but it's profoto.
27 January 2022

As opposed to others here who complained about this modifier, I have no complaints, except of course the price. It is easy to assemble and break down, it is very light (compared to full size strobe modifiers) and works well. I used them (this 2x3 and a strip 1x3) on a pair of profoto B2, and indeed the rings feel a bit flimsy, but the overall weight of the system is very attractive on location. I shoot both full length portraits and products, it works well for that size job.It would have gotten 5 stars but for the ridiculous price of these modifiers and rings. There are cheaper alternative, of course, but don't mess with lighting.

Profoto Failed on This Modifier
25 June 2019

I expected this OFC modifier to be of the same quality as their other modifiers--but, it's not even close.First, it is too small to fit with the Profoto speed ring, and regardless of how you try to make it fit it simply won't work. Then there is the issue of the material of the softbox itself; it's made of sheer nylon, and it isn't close to the heavy material the company is known to produce for their other modifiers. The bag sent to hold it for transport is of better quality. The life of the 1.3 x 1.3 isn't going to be very long and so you'll likely regret the purchase.B & H was pleased to credit my account--that I appreciate; now I need to find a replacement. Please Profoto, get on this--great size, poor manufacturing.
