A good deal if you ride your bike a lot (4000+ miles a year)
I ride my bike a lot-- Close to 4000 miles a year. Which means I need to relubricate my bicycle chain more frequently than people who ride less than I do. So I did some simple math: a 4oz bottle of Pro Link costs about $13. A big gallon jug like this has 128 ounces = 32 of those 4oz bottles. If I bought 32 4oz bottles I would need to spend $416. So I decided to spend just $132 for this gallon jug and save $284. Typically a 4oz bottle lasts me about 4 months of cycling. So this gallon jug should be enough for me to continue riding my bike for the next 10 years if I keep riding my typical 4000 miles a year. And at my age, I still have several decades of riding left in my legs if I stay healthy, so in my case I think this is a good investment. Note this economy works ... A very good chain lube.
I've been using ProLink ProGold as a road bike chain lube for many years. I generally get good life out of my chains, which I attribute in part to fairly regular cleaning and lubing (about every 500 miles) with this ProLink product. My experience with this lube is mostly in dry conditions, so I can't say how well it lasts in the wet. Overall, I'm very happy with the Prolink ProGold chain lube.... Show more

Doesn't last under tough conditions
I think you should read the reviews here carefuly before considering this lube. Here's my personal take: this stuff is thin, penetrates well, and immediately makes a dry chain happy. But I find that it wears off incredibly rapidly, especially in the Toronto winter, when confronted by slush, rain, mud, etc. My chains just seem perpetually dry and thirsty. Since I don't always have time to lube my chain, this can leave me with a dry and rusting chain. On the plus side I'm amazed at how little crud accumulates: there's almost no build-up. I don't know if I've ever had a lube that resists gunking up like this one. I actually liked it for my mountain bike in good weather for this reason.I think this lube might work nicely as a summer lube, especially if you're in a ... But under harsher conditions it just doesn't hold up.Doesn't suit my demanding needs, so I won't be buying this lube again.... Show more

Good for cold and wet weather
If you're going to ride in the cold or rain, a wax lube doesn't work very well. ProLink Gold (while messy, like all petroleum-based lubes) stays put and lubricates in all weather. If you're willing to clean your chain before you lube it, this stuff works and is not as smelly as some other lubes I've tried. (My first choice for bad weather is belt drive, but if you're gonna stick to a chain, this is the stuff to use.)... Show more

Got tired of it after 12 years
Yes. I've had plenty of experience with it on road bikes, MTBs, commuter bikes & in slushy Toronto weather. This had been the only product I used so just got used to my chain becoming dirty very quickly. It is a thin lubricant and lubes well with repeated application but I found that my chains become black and greasy over a short time. If you are diligent with regular/routine drivetrain degreasing you'll be fine. But if you let it go too long your drive chain will become very dirty with this product--even after application. As one reviewer had already mentioned, your chain must be immaculately before application or it will draw out the unseen residue and it'll collect on the cogs and side plates.I have since switched to Purple Extreme and I'm much happier with ... Great product!
I just finished a 4 oz. bottle and I am very happy with this chain lube. I clean and lube my chain often, probably more than necessary because I also like a quiet chain & gears. I have well over 4,000 kilometres on my new mountain bike (using prolink chain lube exclusively). The chain is still in great condition with no noticeable stretch. I ride some paved roadway to access public pathways and trails (fine gravel) as well as dirt single tracks (e.g. Bruce trail). The chain links will pick up a little gravel dust over time (see blackish buildup) but will clean up like a new chain (I use MEC chain cleaner). Air dry the cleaned chain and reapply a drop of lube on each roller pin. Wipe off excess lube (spin chain in reverse with a rag held under the chain and gently ... Light chain lube, works great in wet PNW weather.
My go-to chain lube. I commute probably 10 miles a day 5 days a week by bike. This lube works great with the wet weather in the PNW. It's a light lube but I like that it also cleans out some of the old muck when you apply it. I still use a chain cleaner every 250 miles and wipe/reapply weekly the chain but the lube really keeps the chain pretty clean.... Show more

my go to chain lube
I've had a bottle for three years now. I got this when I first stated cycling. As with anything cycling, one tends to experiment and tinker and such. I have tried a dozen different varieties of chain lubes (wax, wet or dry lube stuff) and I've ended up coming back to this one.The nicest thing about this is it gets right into the rollers and keeps things quiet and well lubed on the chain. It's easy to clean with basic degreasers. It doesn't stain my clothes and it doesnt get gunky like tar so it's easy to wipe down if no time to do a full drivetrain cleanup. It can also go weeks without needing for reapplication (fair weather road cyclist here, commuters will need to apply more often)Get this one and save your money.... Show more

Not a miracle lube, but works well for me.
I've been using this stuff for ~20 years on road and mtb. It's liquid, but sets up to a slushy semisolid once the solvent evaporates. (similar to T-9) It runs quietly, I get good chain life, and it doesn't accumulate dirt like other wet lubes. I've used it in damp/wet conditions and in dry dusty conditions with good results. I apply it fairly frequently putting a drop on each roller, rotating the crank a bunch of times, then wiping off any excess with a old terrycloth rag. There are many other lubes out there with miracle claims, but this stuff has worked well for me.... Show more

The best chain lube
I got turned onto this chain lube a few years ago by a mechanic friend of mine and it’s all I use now. I ride gravel and mountain bike and live in the Northeast where we have fair amounts of mud and grit. This lube excels in all conditions, keeps my drive train, running smoothly and quiet and actually keeps the chain clean. Almost every lube I have used in the past I would literally need to degrease the chain every couple weeks because it would get so gunky. That is not the case with this stuff, I degrease the chain about every six weeks now, but more out of habit than necessity.... Show more
