I've played bass for over 40 years in bands, and have always goofed around with drums. I bought a set of 70's Gretsch from my drummer (it was his "practice" set)and actually started to improve. Recently, a band needed a drummer and I started playing with them. After buying and trying different sizes of sticks, I settled on a pair of 5As...BIG MISTAKE! Although the gig was only 2 hrs, those little sticks wore me out! Great for practice, but too light for playing a job. I tried my 5Bs, and think that's the size I should have gone with. The extra weight makes playing easier because I don't have to hit so hard (trying to cut thru the guitar, bass, and vocals. We'll see soon enough, as I have another gig this weekend (3 hrs), but so far, so good.

I tend to use Vater but always like to experiment and these were a very good price at PMT. I can only agree with another reviewer, in that while they are made of very nicely grained American hickory and are perfectly matched in weight, balance and straightness, the mould line on those tips is really irritating and something you see in cheap Chinese sticks and shouldn’t be seen on a premium USA made product. I’ve never encountered those moulds on Vic Firths, Vaters or Silver Fox so it makes you think, are they actually USA made? As I say they are nice sticks but when I’ve chopped them up I won’t get them again. There’s a reason that Vic Firth sells more sticks than anyone else.

Grabbed these sticks on sale of course- always looking for great deals on sticks & cymbals; these 7A's with Nylon tips are really ideal sticks for any given playing scenario. They are surprisingly light, well balanced and I havent had a tip break off yet. They are strong! Im a rim-beater, so I eat sticks in the middle making sure to get that "Crack" out of all my fills and heavier drives. Only two issues for me with these that may only apply to me and my personal playing flaws: 1) They are a little short- 5A's are ideal for length, but are often heavier... and 2) Grip- these sticks are slippery! My hands hurt after playing them if I dont add some grip, such as good ole electrical tape (which works just fine-took care of my gripping problem) - Not bad sticks for such ... MoreGrabbed these sticks on sale of course- always looking for great deals on sticks & cymbals; these 7A's with Nylon tips are really ideal sticks for any given playing scenario. Ive been using the big pack of cheap sticks for awhile just because of the price but lately Ive been playing some songs with heavy ride/bell in them and they just snap one after another so I needed to get my old favorite stick which was promark 5a hickory. Not sure when they started making this version but they are perfect to me. Just like my favorite sticks but with a little more meat on the ends where you want it. The weight is good too. These will be my new go to sticks.
Bought these for my son, who is in a performing percussion group. These sticks were supposed to be for his shows, but not very nice for the shows now. After the very first time he practiced with them, the paint (w/logo etc) splattered all the way up the sticks, to the tips; marring the appearance. Functionality is fine, but appearance wise: not what we want/need for a group performing in competitions. Not sure if water based paint was used on these, but from him playing for about an hour (and normal amount of sweat), paint splattered all over the drumsticks and it looks terrible.
Great sticks, with good price tag. The moulding of the nylon tips is slightly off along the cast line, so advisable to clean off the 'rough' bits with some 320 grit or finer emery paper before using, so as not to trash your skins or mesh heads!
Was trying to replace my 747's. This is nothing like them, super thick. There are an infinite number of numbers you can use, if you're making a totally different stick, use a different number.
Pro-mark always produces a quality drumstick. The TX5AN sticks are a little bit longer without the added weight. These sticks are great for all styles of music and the drummers. Very comfortable in the hand. Started using these sticks about a year-and-a-half ago. They are definitely my favorite!
Happy with the quality of each stick; unusual to a pair of sticks with consistency in their weights being equal, much less 6 different pairs but thats exactly what Ive received in two different orders. Ive had difficulty finding these sticks at music stores, so buying quality on-line really makes life convenient, time-saving, and budget-friendly. This particular stick is my favorite for more than one reason, as im playing music 3-4 days a week at a very demanding steady gig, so I dont need issues with any of my equipment, most certainly my sticks.
To be totally honest, I was never really drawn to Pro-Mark mainly due to the tip design. I just randomly picked these up and was surprised at how responsive they were, especially to singles. I find that they play a bit faster and more powerful than other 5b's that I've tried, probably due to the extremely short taper and subsequent beefy neck profile. So far they have held up under a barrage of back beats, blast beats, and just about anything else you can think of! I'll definitely pick up another pair after this one finally wears out.
