Lightweight and less than $30. I used this tile cutter to complete a 2m kitchen splashback and a single walk-in-robe floor (approx. 2m x 1.5m). It is suitable for small tiles and small projects only. I do think it is intended for terracotta tiles. as they snapped evenly along the score line. However, when I used it on a 30cm tile, I buckled it and the cutting wheel would not meet the end of the tile, making it unusable at that point. I think it is worth purchasing for a single and very small tiling project such as a cupboard floor, which is what it is intended at this price.

I wish I looked at the other reviews before purchasing this - we thought given our job was just a small laundry splashback, a cheap tile cutter should suffice. We tried one cut on a 30 cm tile and it buckled the base so that the scoring wheel won't even meet the tiles. Useless! We will certainly be taking it back to the store for a refund, and will just hire their tile cutter instead.

You get what you pay for - a great bottom of the range tile cutter. I had been using an angle grinder with a tile cutter blade but I needed some cleaner cuts on a few thick tiles and with a few practice cuts found I was able to get a good result by placing masking tape over the cut line and going over it a number of times. You do have to place a fair amount of pressure on the handle (but no too much because you could break it) and either side of the tile to break the thicker tiles. For small pieces I scored them and snapped them by clamping the tile to a bench and holding with flat jawed welding clamp along the cut line; excellent result every time. BTW, the box doesn't state you get an extra cutting wheel but I expect it would last a fair while. I did consider ... MoreYou get what you pay for - a great bottom of the range tile cutter. Bought based on instore advice, I probably should have been more specific that I was using on 4x2 inch mosaic porcelain tiles. Although this tool may be effective used on ceramic, medium sized tiles, it was a great source of frustration in my application - It was all I could do not to throw the thing against the brickwall, and I may have taught the neighbors kids a new level of "explosive verbal emotional expression". I will chase down a wet saw hire to get the job done - wish I had just done so from the start.
Poor quality and bad design. The tile cutting element doesnt cut through tile with any remote ease. I repeatedly cut into the same line (30-40 times) only to apply pressure either side of the cut and the tile either doesnt split, or the tile cracks anywhere but down the line I etched in. Sdditionally the little mechanism that is supposed aide in cracking the tile in half along the line would drag along the tile, therefore scratching and ultimately damaging the tile. This poor quality tile cutter has destroyed upward of 30 tiles.
What a piece of garbage! The cut is always 3mm either side of the score line which I put down to too much flex in the top bar. Don't waste your money and spend a bit more money.
I purchased due to it being cheap and thought I’d give it a go. I got two cuts in and realised it wasn’t cutting straight, so I played around with the frame to make it straight, and tried again, it broke 5 tiles before falling apart on me. Thankfully Nowra Bunnings were happy to exchange and I rented theirs for $25p/24H. Worked a treat! Don’t bother it’s cheap and doesn’t do the job.
Perfect example of a cheap poor quality tool that doesn’t do the job, just wastes materials.Need to score tile numerous times or if you use more force to just do it once, as you should, the rails flex and you end up with curved cuts. Just to make things more difficult, the cutting wheel doesn’t align to ridge on base so even trying to get the cut where you want it Isn’t straightforward.
Unlike other reviews I can score and snap tile off but the cut is never straight. It cuts with a nice curve which I do not want. Have checked cutter wheel and everything is fixed solid with no movement. Will be returning this and outlay the money on a decent one that actually cuts straight instead of me thinking a cheapy would do the job.
It's cheap, simple and used right it is a good tool (no matter the tool practice before you use it on your good stuff). I used it for my large kitchen splash back and it did the job, for my small/thin cuts I used my angle grinder as it was easier. For it's price it is a good tool but as I said, you get what you pay for. So if you are looking at doing a lot of small cuts, either look at hiring a really good one or use your angle grinder.
