Reviewing after running for several months...As an introduction I'm somewhat tech savvy but know little about networking and never had more than a consumer grade 2 bay NAS.First off, this comes in a nice big box for very good protection. Open it up and you have a very well packed big cube of metal. Pull out a plastic drive bay tray and try to figure out how to get it back in with the drive attached....scratch your head and try again....maybe once again and it'll slide in like butter. Takes a couple of minutes to figure it out but once you do the rest are easy and you're good for life.I suggest that you figure out any upgrades before deploying because adding memory, a pci card, or m2 ssd's requires you to shutdown, unplug and remove 12-16 really small screws to ... MoreReviewing after running for several months...As an introduction I'm somewhat tech savvy but know little about networking and never had more than a consumer grade 2 bay NAS.First off, this comes in a nice big box for very good protection. Once you get it disassembled there is plenty of room to work and get it done.I added some generic memory purchased from B&H as well as a couple of M2 drives. I suggest getting the M2 drives with integrated heat sinks since they still run a little hot, though in the acceptable range. On the subject of heat, no issues, I have 12 drives and 2 M2's everything is running well within drive manufacturer specs.Little LCD panel on the front is great. Why doesn't every manufacturer spend the extra $1 on a little panel? Certainly not necessary but very convenient.Noise - I can't help you here since it is in a relatively noisy room but since it is a NAS, you can put it pretty much anywhere on your network. I wouldn't put it into my bedroom or living room since it has at least 3 fans. One of my raids on this box is running eight 18TB disks at raid level 10 and had a disk failure. Hot swapped another disk in and rebuild took 24 hours which to me is completely acceptable. The QNAP software looks very intimidating but surprisingly simple to use if you take it slowly. Setting up initial raid settings is pretty easy though requires a little googling for new users like me. Setting up port trunking for the dual 2.5 gig network cards is just a click. There are various software packages that might be helpful and they install with just a click too.Lots of little blinking lights to make it look important too.Overall very happy with this purchase.

I searched and researched for the perfect NAS unit. I finally settled on the QNAP TS-1655 because of unlimited options of future upgrades like maxing out the RAM memory to 128 GBs, the 2 M.2 hard drive ports you can designate to the system cache, not to mention the 16 hard drive bays. I already added 2Samsung 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2Samsung and 64GB of RAM memory with plans to add 2 more to max out the four memory slots on the QNAP TS-1655 16-Bay NAS Enclosure. I am very happy with this purchase.
