The NAS promises PCIE 4.0 but it does not get PCIE 4.0 x4 speeds with current generation Samsung 990 Pro NVMEs.There is also speed issues with QNAP's own 100GBE networking card. It is not getting anywhere near the speeds it's supposed to. The NAS has a PCIE 4.0 x16 slot and should be able to handle 100 Gbit (understanding the is a bit of overhead, but not 75% overhead). Behaves more like a PCIE 3.0 x8 slot. The most we get out of dual RAID 0 with 2x Samsung 990 PROs is ~2.5 GB/s over the network with 100 Gigabit. That's slower than single PCIE 3.0 NVME and this NAS is supposed to be gen 4!So while the NAS promises to perform much higher, it does not. And you can get that with lower cost options without PCIE 4.0... and slower networks. 8x Ironwolf spindle drives ... MoreThe NAS promises PCIE 4.0 but it does not get PCIE 4.0 x4 speeds with current generation Samsung 990 Pro NVMEs.There is also speed issues with QNAP's own 100GBE networking card. I upgraded from a 872XT and this system is amazing. I mostly use it for Plex and some drone video editing. I'm easily able to stream 8k transcoding multiple streams with no issues. My only complaint is it doesn't come with a 10gb Ethernet card just two 2.5gb ones. The old one came with a 10gb interface so this one part seems like a step backwards. Otherwise I'd recommend this unit with no qualms.

Recommended by my IT guy. I bought what he told me to buy. The whole NAS thing was new to me. Once I found the right path to archiving my files, I have been quite happy with the functionality. One thing: I bought two fast solid state drives that go in the first slot of the QNAP. The rest of the slots have slower drives for long term archiving. I NEVER use the fast drives. I have found it's still much faster to work using the computer's built in drive, and then store on the slow drives when I'm done.
