I have been using it this past week in the Hudson river up by the Newburgh Beacon bridge with much success in the fire tiger colorit seems to be a very popular color for the Striped bass. To the point where I had to change the hooks out because they were bent so badly from catching fish.

You've probably read all the positive reviews on this lure from the saltwater anglers who posted before me. Let me tell you, it works great in fresh water as well. I purchesed my first one prior to leaving on one of our annual fly-in trips to northern Ontario. I wanted a larger lure capable of reaching 30' to drag through a long bottleneck between the two lake basins where it reaches depths of 40+ feet and large Pike are known to reside. That orange & chartreuse Hot Head pattern caught a 45" Northern on its first trip down to the depths and has continued to put big, deep-dwelling fsh in the boat on every trip since. It's tough as nails, standing up to numerous Pike teeth & bouncing off all the boulders in the area with barely a mark on it. Thanks again Rapala. This lure is the best trolling lure hands down. I have tried the Manns, the Rebel, the sebile and many others. Nothing works like the rapala. This lure works great a very high speeds where every other lure just spins to the surface. Does not snag easily on drop offs. I put in rod holders and catch stripers and blues at speeds upward of 18 mph

I am unsure as to where/how I found out about this lure but sure am glad it happened. Using the Dorado color in the Lower Keys this winter was a ticket to success. I began using it to troll "on the reef" to try for those illusive grouper but quickly found that Cero, Spannish and King Mackeral loved it (and it stood up to their teeth), Jacks, Snappers and even a Blue Runner thought it too good to pass up. Often fishing alone I could only run a single line on really windy days, if only one lure could be used this was it. When I could run two I would experiment with other colors, they worked but not ever as well as the Dorado for me. I had to come home for a while but keep hearing from some of the others with whom I shared this secret weapon and it is still going strong having recently added a very nice Cobia to the list of accomplishments. When I return there is no doubt I will take a good selection, never can predict what will be next season's hot color but I know what I will start out with!
I troll mostly ballyhoo rigs but I always like to drag 1 Rapala on a wire line. These things are great. They really do dive deep. I once had to put on the snorkel gear and dive one off the bottom. It was all of 30ft!Good for Wahoo out deep and Kingfish and Grouper in the shallows. ...even at night!Last w/e caught (and released) a Marlin that hit the firetiger.BE CAREFUL reeling it in. There's so much load on it that it fires out of the water like a rocket full of hooks.
Traveling to remote locations, where I don't know the water or fishing has taught me to take an assortment of tackle because you never know for sure what will produce fish on a given body of water until you are catching fish. Our last trip into northern Canada found us facing terrible fishing weather, cold blowing rain. FIshermen were miserable because of the weather and because fish weren't biting the usual lures and presentations. Jigging was good for a few small walleye and nothing seemed to produce northerns. So I went to trolling. Trolling Rapala® X-Rap™ Magnum 30s (and a 20) produced ferocious strikes that would nearly rip the pole-holders from the side of the boat. 27-30" walleye and 35-40" northerns were slamming the lures. I tied ropes on the poles so I didn't have to fear losing them overboard. Seeing my 9-year-old daughter yelling "whoa, whoa, ... WHOA!!!" as a 28" walleye pealed line from her reel was well worth the cost of the trip! Losing my last magnum 30 on a rock-pile disappointed me — and really disappointed my daughter!Neither the camp owner, nor his guides had been able to put customers on fish that week. The night before we left I told them how to catch fish under these conditions. I got an email from the camp owner a month after we left telling me he had followed my advice (with modifications) for similar results.I've already bought extra Rapala® X-Rap™ Magnums for next year! THEY WORK!!
Bought this plug along with a 50 pack of Eagle claw non-off set circle hooks . The hooks were short counted by 4 .Or there were only 46 hooks in a supposed to be 50 count box . Told the store and nothing was done .
Exceptional trolling lure for speeds up to 4.2 mph. Have purchased multiple color choices and have had tremendous success with catching Gag Grouper inside Tampa Bay.
The lure was the real deal. We caught a boatload of bonita trolling with them near Puerto Vallarta in January, 2023.
I am from Paraguay-South America, and my country is surrounded by big rivers. Few months ago, I went trolling fishing to the Paraná River with some good friends. My friends and guide wanted to use other lures......I told them to use wathever the wanted, but I was ready to test those RAPALA X-RAP MAGNUM 30, because the excellent experience I had using those lures in Costa Rica, trolling in saltwater for tuna and wahoo!!!!!. I started trolling with the REDHEAD. After 1 hour, I landed one 40 kilos (almost 90 pounds) SURUBÍ (tiger striped catfish). When I catched the second one, everybody took a RAPALA X-RAP MAGNUM 30 from my lure bag. After one day fishing we had 6 SURUBI, all of them over 50 pounds. I LOVE THIS LURES!!!!!!!
