Take this review with a grain of salt, because I'm biased for having only purchased 10-20 dollar non-name brand mice up until this point, but I gotta say this mouse is great. I don't know much about mice technically, all I can say is it's a much smoother experience than what my previous 15 dollar one could do. Plus it has different colors to represent what DPI setting you're at so you know which is your preferred in an instant, and it's cord is really loose in a good way. My wire situation is abysmal I admit, but even still the cord always has this innate amount of slack which means I'm never working against the cord to, say, aim in an FPS. The only downside I can see for someone is the software included with all of Razr's hardware. I'm not bothered by having to ... I'm not bothered by having to wait a bit for it all to kick in on start-up, but maybe other slower computers might have a harder time with that? I couldn't say though, I've not tried it on anything other than the one computer I have. This is all to say, I think this mouse is definitely worth it for the price. If you've been going cheap on mice, this is a good one to upgrade to that isn't near 100 dollars, but absolutely makes a difference in experience.

A decent mouse for FPS games, although there are a few major drawbacks that keep it from being a good, lasting product.Pros:The mouse has a good ambidextrous shape, although just a bit long, which makes it difficult to fingertip grip with my hand size (19x10cm).Flexible cable.Good sensor.Very lightweight.Plastic feels very sturdy.Cons:Side buttons are a little awkward in their shape and positioning.RGB requires Synapse software to be running. These last two complains were the only ones I could come up with for long time owning this mouse and I thought I could overlook them due to how much I like the mouse overall. These used to feel great but have now started to peel and deteriorate where my thumb holds the mouse after 4 months of daily use gaming.Due to the permanent grips not being very durable, I do not recommend the Razer Viper and I am now in need of a replacement mouse. This is sad because before this point of failure arose I did like using it.

I bought the Razer Viper Wired Optical Gaming Mouse for my son. He wanted a mouse that could keep up with his intense gaming and the Razer Viper did not disappoint him. The sleek contour of this mouse fits comfortably in his hand and can be used ambidextrously. The 8khz is true to its features and has insane tracking, with lightning speed frames per second. It is smooth and easy to use. There are 8 total buttons on this mouse and he has each one hot keyed for better gaming experience. The cord is long enough that it does not get in his way when he is gaming. Overall, he is very happy with the purchase.

The search for the best gaming mouse can be tough. Manufacturers sometime don't list the most accurate numbers or weaknesses of their mouses. Rtings has done a lot of tests and Razer mice do have the best click latency but the Logitech sensor has the most solid accurate Hero sensor. This mouse has a 5g sensor and I didn't notice a huge difference with the Viper ultimate. This is noticeably lighter than the Ultimate and it just feels better. Also there is no post travel on the main buttons. The viper ultimate has some post travel issues and doesn't feel as crisp as the wired viper.I've also tried the viper mini but the sensor isn't as good, a lot of cpi variation. This mouse fits me better for all types of grips save for palm grip, which I never use anyways.I ... But I prefer the lighter weight viper and even the logitech superlight.
After years of using a basic Microsoft optical mouse from 2002 I decided it was finally time to upgrade to something that I could use for gaming. I did plenty of research and was between a Corsair and this Razer mouse. I ultimately went with the Razer because of the optical switches in the two main mouse buttons, which are less prone to wearing out over time like mechanical switches. I also liked this mouse because of its ambidextrous design, which adds two sets of extra mouse buttons the sides, giving it seven buttons total. Ergonomic mice usually only have the one set of side buttons where your thumb would be so this was a great middle ground between a five button mouse and one with way more buttons than I would actually need.So far, after about month of heavy ... I also liked this mouse because of its ambidextrous design, which adds two sets of extra mouse buttons the sides, giving it seven buttons total. Ergonomic mice usually only have the one set of side buttons where your thumb would be so this was a great middle ground between a five button mouse and one with way more buttons than I would actually need.So far, after about month of heavy use, I am really happy with my decision. The mouse is light (only 69g) and comfortable to hold (I would say my hands are pretty average sized), and the cable is quite flexible and unobtrusive. It also feels really sturdy and nicely made: no rattling scroll wheel or squeaky buttons which seem to be a common problem with a lot of mice. The optical switches have a nice click to them and I can hardly tell the difference between them and a mechanical switch, and the scroll wheel has just enough resistance so that it doesn't feel too loose or too stiff when scrolling. There are 5 preset DPI stages that can be customized to your preference (anywhere between 400 and 16000) and can be cycled through with a DPI button. The side buttons are low profile enough that they don't feel like they're in the way and I don't worry about accidentally clicking them, but are still easy to find by touch. All four side buttons can be programmed separately, which comes in handy when I'm working because I can set them to different keyboard shortcuts that I use often. However, when gaming, only the buttons by my thumb are really useful; the buttons on the opposite side can be clicked with your ring or pinky finger, but it requires a little bit of reaching and that's not ideal when you need quick input, but otherwise it's nice to have the extra options. The RGB lighting is a fun touch with a bunch of different effects you can apply but, considering the light is covered by your hand when you're using the mouse, it's kind of superfluous. The only use I've really found for it is that I can set it as a different color for each mouse profile so I know at a glance what keybinds are set up at the moment so I don't accidentally start up a game with my work profile assigned and vice versa.Which leads me to Razer Synapse, the software that allows you to customize the lighting and buttons. I read a lot of complaints about it while researching, but I have no issues with it. It's pretty simple and intuitive, and it no longer requires you to create an account with Razer to use, which was an annoying thing for a lot of people. My one complaint is that the DPI button is on the bottom of the mouse. They say it's to prevent accidental clicking, but the way the top of the mouse is designed it could have easily been placed behind the scroll wheel which would still put it out of the way enough to prevent accidental clicking while making it accessible enough to use while gaming. Is this the best mouse out there? I really don't know, I was literally using a mouse I bought for 99 cents at a thrift store before this. But if you're interested in this mouse, I can say it probably will not disappoint you. It has made both work and gaming so much easier for me and at a super reasonable price. I highly recommend it.
This is a solid-feeling and performing mouse which does the basics right and absolutely melts away in a setup. The mouse feels great in the hand with a solid ambidextrous design that conforms to my relatively large hands well. Tracking performance is great across all DPI settings, and the mouse skates across surfaces extremely smoothly. Every single button on the mouse is easy to press without being vulnerable to misclicks. The scroll wheel is grippy and scrolls accurately, with a clearly-defined click. The cord remains out of the way quite easily, and holds its form well. I think the only large downside is the position of the DPI adjustment button on the bottom of the mouse; the benefit of a DPI switch is being able to dynamically adjust sensitivity in-game, and ... I was able to score this mouse on sale for $39.99 and it's an absolutely incredible value at that price, but I can still recommend it at its full MSRP as well.
My son saved up his money and purchased this, and was generally happy with this. But after 9 months, the mousewheel popped out of some internal structure, and was tilted at an angle. This made the wheel largely unusable because it was rubbing against pieces inside the mouse. We contacted Razer who claimed this was not something they would support, despite it being within warranty and despite it being a problem caused under normal use. According to their denial they labeled this either an accident or normal wear and tear, the first is wrong and the second doesn't give confidence about how they think their mouse will last. After getting the claim denied, I found I could peel back the slick pads on the bottom of the mouse and remove some screws to open the housing. ... The mousewheel part is connected has two axels that snap into a pair of Y-shaped forks, and it had simply popped out of one. We popped it back in and the mouse worked well, although it is impossible to get the slick mouse feet stickers back perfectly. (I know you can purchase after market ones.) However, after 3 weeks it has popped out again. I suspect the tolerances on the plastic supports are not great, and I am not sure there is much I can do to give this a permanent fix. I have seen a few other references online to others with the same issue, and since Razer will not support it, I can't recommend this mouse given its cost.
Can't think of anything to shout about that's very positive about this mouse. It's too small for palm-grip users and uncomfortable when used as such. If you're not a full-on claw-grip user you might find the same. The main mouse buttons are clunky and stiffer than expected - optical microswitches - let's hope these last longer than previous, expensive, Razer mice - which seem to be designed to break down shortly after the warranty period ends. The polling rate is more than twice the capability of normal mice and I cannot fault the sensor for desktop use. However, for gaming; some games (e.g. GTA 5) do not intreprit the 1000Hz polling rate properly and there can be issues which means you need to fiddle with the Synapse software and find the settings that work (usually ... So in those individual cases there is simply no benefit of having advanced mouse features and/or paying through the nose for them. This may be the last Razer mouse I ever buy and it is a shadow on the former Deathadder which was pretty damed awesome, expect for the main mouse buttons faulting after 12-15 months (I had 2 of them and they both went the same way). Razer tech support are laughable. Don't rely on them at all! If it's in warranty take it back to where youpurchased it from. If it's out of warranty it's not Razer's problem! Ergo, they want your money but after that you can whistle.
There are a ton of ultra-light mouse out there which are only focused for competitive fps shooters. The same goes for razer, it ultra-light and ambidextrous, however the hyper-shift functionality the mouse has makes it even better.I used to use a gaming mouse with several buttons on it but it was just to heavy to be competitive in any sort of fps.The Hyper shift functionality allow me to double the functionality of every single button. For example the two side buttons basically turn into 4 buttons with the use of hypershift. So with hypershift I get a total of 8 more buttons (this includes scroll up and scroll down). Its as if it's not there. The only downside which goes away after a few hours of use are the mouse pads, they kind of have to be "broken" in. They were rough at first but after a few rounds of gaming it became smooth. However I use a set of aftermarket mouse feet so I removed them and use the ones I installed and the mouse is basically perfect in my book. The mouse is best for claw and palm/claw grip, unless you have extremely small hands a palm grip is not ideal for this mouse. One thing I want to point out many of the popular light weight mice are about 10 to 15 bucks cheaper than this one, however for me the hypershift functionality more than makes up for the slight increase in price. If you want a top grade gaming mouse that also offers great functionality choose this. There is a wireless one coming out, however it is nearly double the price of the wired, the only advantage you are getting is slightly better mouse pads and wireless capability. If you can live with the wire, this one is a great deal.
I've been looking forward to acquiring a Razer Viper for months ever since seeing it for the first time and holding the mouse with my own hand. Unlike the current crop of Razer gaming mice, the Viper bucks the trend of ever larger sized mice to accommodate users with over sized ham fisted paws for hands. Not since the halcyon days of Razer's Diamondback and Copperhead has a Razer mouse been comfortable for me to hold using the claw style grip.Almost all modern Razer mice have a tall bulbous hump on the top side of the mouse starting from the middle and working its way to the back end of the mouse. Not so with the Viper. The Viper's dimensions and shape are lower profile and left/right side symmetric like the Diamondback and Copperhead designs from a decade ... The Viper's dimensions and shape are lower profile and left/right side symmetric like the Diamondback and Copperhead designs from a decade ago.Combined with the Viper's light in class 69g curb weight (not including weight of cord) this mouse is not only comfortable to grip but also not tiring to push around as it requires very little physical movement to make the mouse pointer move quickly in RTS type games. As it stands the Viper has full Razer Synapse driver support, a 5G sensor with maximum 16k DPI sensitivity, on the fly sensitivity control button on the bottom with LED indicator, built in settings profile memory and new in class optical switches for button 1 and 2. Button 1 and 2 appear to respond very quickly to input clicks with no observable ghosting or repeated inputs despite only a single physical click. The only downside to the Viper is it's one of the most expensive corded Razer gaming mouse sold by Best Buy. However if you don't have large ham fisted paws for hands and prefer Razer gaming mice, BB and Razer kind of have you over the proverbial barrel. I bit the bullet and got a Viper and haven't looked back.Be aware if your computer does not already have Razer Synapse software installed, this package can take awhile to install once downloaded.
