Has got to be the best game ever made. I love this game. I can not wait for the next installment. This game has it all action, adventure, the unlawful killing. I can ride around for hours just shooting wildlife, or I can run for my life after shooting civilians. The open world is incredibly made. Rockstar really outdid themselves and made a great piece of entertainment. I recommend.

The Campaign for this game takes a higher spot then the Multiplayer so that is what I will focus on. First off, the sandbox style of gameplay. The Red Dead Redemption world is massive, and it can take you up to twenty minutes just to go from one end to the other. There is a lot for you to do, from hunting, collecting herbs, chasing bounties, playing poker, blackjack and five-finger fillet, breaking in horses, searching for gold, or just going around helping people in need. The main storyline for the campaign is extremely long and doesn't end when you think it will. It takes you from America to Mexico and back again, and you meet plenty of eccentric, colourful, crazy and even murderous people on your adventures. The third person view is different to most games but ... MoreThe Campaign for this game takes a higher spot then the Multiplayer so that is what I will focus on. For those who are interested in the Wild West time period this is a great game that will provide days of fun.

I'll admit, I had some reservations about Red Dead Redemption. The studio that released it (Rockstar) hadn't done too much to distinguish it from GTA with horses. Within the first 2 hours, however, I was blown away. The story starts with our hero John Marston attempting to track down his former gang leader Bill Williamson and bring him to justice. After a short cut scene, he's shot and left for dead. The game opens up after some dialogue and tutorials, leaving you to your devices in 1912's Texas and Mexico. The first thing you'll notice is the beautiful visuals. Everything has an incredible amount of detail and draw distance, and the character models animate wonderfully. Watching the sunset on horseback is a truly visceral video game experience, and won't soon be forgotten. Combat works in a very fun, gritty way. You have a large variety of period weapons to deal the bad guys (or good guys). Quests can appear by talking to certain NPCs essential to the story. They can also appear at random, forcing you to act quickly or watch an innocent die. What really surprised me was how well the minigames were made. Poker could be sold as a separate game in of itself, with AI "tells" and bluffing. Five-finger-fillet is pretty funny to watch if you make a blunder. Horseshoes and bar fights provide some enjoyable distractions. You can waltz over to a local movie theater and watch some very funny silent films that convey the mindset of the times. Red Dead Redemption has the most believable open world I've ever played, with every feature one would expect. The atmosphere is simply unmatched in terms of immersion and realism. I haven't even mentioned multiplayer yet. RDR supports up to 16 players over Xbox Live or PSN for full-on gunfights and skirmishes. Game types can range from free-for-alls to CTF-structured team based modes. There is also a separate mode called "Free Roam" that lets you and your friends form a posse and explore the entire single player map. You can slaughter gangs, hunt down wild game, and duke it out with other posses over an enormous map. There's a fully featured ranking system that tracks your progress throughout your online exploits. Multiplayer should keep you hooked for weeks on end as you shoot up the West. Overall, Read Dead Redemption is an incredibly good game that can't be missed. Pretty much everything is perfectly polished and consistent, and you'll find yourself loving the Wild West's final days. Go buy it now.

Western with immersive world, great gameplay, and a fantastic story. Oh and zombies, lol. Bases are covered with this game for countless hours of gameplay.
If you're a gamer, then Red Dead Redemption is one of those (rare) titles that you simply should own... and if you even half enjoy a good "Western", then don't even bother reading any more of this review; just purchase. Need convincing? Alright, here goes: Red Dead Redemption is an open world, third-person game that has more depth than I can aptly describe without giving away spoilers, but I will give you these simple tips: pretty much everything is interactive. You can shoot anything that moves and open up new challenges. You can be a law-abiding citizen or an outlaw cowboy. You can dedicatedly follow the story line or you can mosey about the country-side collecting herbs, or perhaps lose yourself in a saloon at a poker (or Five Finger Skillet) table. The side-missions are endless. You will help those in need.. or perhaps you won't.. you might even lassoo them dirty strangers and drag them along behind your horse for awhile. Hey, it's your countryside and Red Dead Redemption is exactly what you make it. Then there are the online modes: "Free Roam" or "Gang Matches". Free Roam is much like the Single Player... only all posse'd up with your mates. Gang Matches are objective based games, like "Grab the Bag" (think "Capture the Flag" but with more gold), "Hold Your Own" and "Gang Shootout".. and each Gang Match has one awesome commonality: every match starts with a Mexican standoff. How fast can you throw down, Cowboy? You WANT the Game of the Year edition because it comes with all the Downloadable Content (DLC) and expansions, which provide even more missions, stories, challenges and introduce the Coop Mode. Additionally, it comes packaged with the Undead Nightmare game, which was originally sold stand-alone. Can you spell value? Undead Nightmare gives you a whole new Single Player story and Online modes - each infested with Zombies. Oh yeah - you read me right - Zombies. Frankly, even though Red Dead Redemption received a lot of accolades and won many awards it was still underrated. The game is that good. This game truly is worthy of the title "Game of the Year" and this "Game of the Year Edition" provides you with more value than you could poke a stick at. Get on it.
Red Dead Redemption is an open world game. Players can interact with the environment and engage in combat with enemies, using various firearms. Different breeds of horses are the main forms of transportation, which come in a variety of quality. These horses must be tamed, however, in order to use them.[9] Swimming is not an option, as the player character cannot swim; he will drown if he ventures too far into deep water.[10] In addition to following the main storyline, players can take part in random events they encounter as they explore the West. These include public lynchings, ambushes, pleas for assistance, stranger encounters, "ride-by" shootings, and dangerous animal attacks. These include public lynchings, ambushes, pleas for assistance, stranger encounters, "ride-by" shootings, and dangerous animal attacks. For example, if a group of people ride into town firing guns in the air, the player can kill them, and will receive a bonus of honor and fame. Players can take part in optional side activities including duels, bounty hunting, herb collecting, gambling, and hunting animals for pelts, meat and other various items. Most of these activities give the player money, which can be spent at various stores to buy new weapons, medicine, outfit pieces, and horses, among other things. Red Dead Redemption makes use of a morality system where players have the ability to gain positive or negative Honor. Negative honor is gained for committing crimes and killing civilians and lawmen. Positive honor is gained by capturing bounties, helping civilians and working nightwatch jobs in ranches and towns. This works along with another system, Fame, showing and governing how people react based on Marston's honor status. If Marston has negative honor, lawmen and civilians will insult Marston and feel insecure around him; lawmen will even threaten to kill him. If he has positive honor, lawmen and civilians will greet him warmly and feel safe around him.[11] As Marston's fame and honor increase bounty hunters think twice about attempting an arrest and people turn away from his criminal behavior. Marston can, however, prevent his honor or fame from being altered by wearing a bandana, making him unrecognizable. As a way of traveling across the large map of the West, Marston can utilize trains to get from place to place quickly, but he can also stop the train by threatening or killing the passengers or driver. Furthermore he can crack into safes either on trains, or in banks in towns like Armadillo and Blackwater, to get money; these various acts of crime will increase his bounty and reduce honor.
Yes this is an old game, not very very old but old in terms its been out a while. So its new to me, and I have heard a lot of good reviews for it. So far I have only really played about an hour of it. Seem very similar to other Rock Star games. That can be a good and bad thing. Good being they make fun games, bad being its all the same just in a western setting. So far the game is just okay, iam expecting it to pick up and get progressively better and more entertaining as I get more familiar with the controls and how to navigate through the whole game. This game hasnt really made me crave or thirst to play or keep playing it. Like GTA San Andreas, or Manhunt, or even The Warriors. I hope something come up or happens that does so.
One of my favorite games of all time! The story is an amazing cinimatic western that made me feel for the main character. The world feels like the west coast, horse riding is fun and gun combat with old weapons from 1900 is great. Why 4/5 Stars? If you collect achievements you will NOT be able to get them all. Due to few people playing online anymore and the fact the achievements require luck as much as skill in many cases. Unless you have highly skilled friends to play with you, the online challenges won’t work with random strangers either.Still hoping for a single player only remaster. Until then, this is the closest you will get to a next gen Red Dead until the sequel arrives this October.
Finally got around to getting a ps3 and along with last of us this is a must buy, off top. Great open world western by the creative force behind the gta games. Love that the game of the year edition comes with the undead nightmare dlc, which itself was also a standalone game. Found this new for around 18$ at the time of writing. Excellent value and a great game.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the few western games you could find on any console. The reason for this lack is that a western environment is really hard to plan. Red Dead Redemption has a huge world map in which you can find a few settlements, rough people, and lots of things to do. The background is wonderful: untouched wild nature hosting several species of animal to hunt. but the very best of game is found in gameplay. The thing you will be doing the most is shooting. Red Dead Redemption offers endless shootings; either to survive, conquer or fight against lawmen. The target system and the bullet-time are very effective and functional. You will be having various weapons; each one with its particular features. You will be having various weapons; each one with its particular features. The main story tells about John Marston - a tough guy trying to redeem from a lifetime of crimes. The in-game atmosphere is incredible; as you ride a horse or face a gringo trying to kill you on a duel, you feel like you're living in a Sergio Leone film. But John Marston's tale is not the only one you can play. The Undead Nightmare pack offers another narrative sequence. Environment and atmosphere change from western to survival horror as zombies uprise. Even Multiplayer is amazing. In the Game Of The Year edition you can find every DLC released. You can match up to play like criminal gangs, try to survive endless waves of undead or explore the wild map on free roam with friends to look for treasures. Tired of shooting? There are lots of things to do with other players; free rome, organise horse races or gamble. Each match played grants experience. As your character levels up you can unlock (a lot of) player skins, animals to ride, weapons. Lots and lots of fun.
