I bought the two-pound package because I wanted to parcel it into smaller vacuum-sealed packets and freeze them. I also shared it with my sister-in-law and she immediately made a loaf of ciabatta bread and it was wonderful. The yeast bloomed beautifully, the dough rose very nicely, and the flavor was that fresh-out-of-the-oven fresh. The yeast smelled fresh out of the package. It was not clumpy and flowed freely from the package. I would buy this again.

I still prefer Red Star active dry yeast over the popular instant yeast because I can activate it in hot water and see that it's alive and well. It gives me more control. I love the 1 pound vacuum sealed bags that can be frozen after opening and will last forever. Getting 2 lbs. for this price is a great deal.

Cant get yeast in the supermarket due to Covid19. If you bake bread a lot buying in bulk is good. The expiration date is not until 2022, as accurately quoted by the sell which is great! I read that Dry Active Yeast (not instant or bread machine yeast) can be frozen for long tern storage. I used a Food Saver and removed all the air and kept out what I would use over the next few weeks. Value per ounce as compared to the supermarkets is good.
The last pack of yeast has kept me baking for four years! This is a superb yeast for making bread. As my experience shows, keeping it dry for years does nothing to reduce its capacity for raising bread, and since a large loaf only needs a teaspoonful a pack this size is excellent value. Before mixing your sugar solution, make sure the water is not hotter than you can stand to keep a finger in it, and not cold to the touch and you will have happy little yeasts ready to make delicious, light airy bread.
I use yeast for much of my baking. It makes much better, and better flavored pancakes. For bread, use an egg in your bread dough and plenty of yeast, your whole wheat bread will rise nicely. Red Star is a reliable Ally. Don't be stingy with the yeast. And, no you don't need to wait a long time for yeast to rise, in pancake batter use warm batter and wait a few minutes to see bubbles forming on top. Ladle the batter into your frying pan, not too hot, good things are worth waiting for!
NONE of the local grocery stores here in Wichita, Kansas can keep yeast on the shelves. This yeast is just perfect, great yield, amazing value. I will admit that 2 lbs was a bit much LOL I shared with friends, so it worked out. I still have loads leftover. Thank you for offering such a great deal on yeast. Just baked two more loaves today, and my husband thanks you as well. :)
Great Yeast--has lasted for nearly a year so far. I bought it when I was making pizza for the family every single week. It's never let me down. I'm not the best baker, but this arrived fresh. It easily works, rising fast enough for me. I would have liked if the bag was conveniently resealable. Still, I just put a bag clip on it and stick it in the fridge.
With the pandemic has come an urge to make home made bread but my local supermarkets are unable to keep yeast on the shelves. This large package of yeast available online is a God Send. Works great and I'll have enough yeast to last a LOOOOOOONG time. Home made bread is delicious and this product makes it possible. Thanks.
The yeast is great. First time buyers might want to know that the package appears to be rock hard before opening(like hardened salt), because it is vacuum packed. Upon opening it immediately becomes nicely granulated yeast.
