Red Wing 1907 Classic Moc Toe Boots - Copper
Modeled after Red Wing's original work boot style, the 1907 is a 6-Inch Moc Toe featuring Copper Rough & Tough leather, white Traction Tred rubber outsole, Norwegian-like welt, triple stitched quality and leather laces. Red Wing's Classic Work boots were designed and built to withstand the daily rigors of the work day on the farm and in the factory. The lightweight crepe sole featured a minimal tread design to reduce the mud that would cling to a farmer's boots but still provide the underfoot comfort the work day required. Red Wing would brand the crepe sole as the Traction Tred sole. These classic boots featured a moc toe design. The name came from the word moccasin, the Algonquian Indian word for shoe. This combination of the u-shaped moc toe leather upper and the white crepe sole would become the iconic boot style for the Red Wing brand. It is one of the oldest Red Wing styles and a best-seller. A local Red Wing store opened a few months ago here...i have waited and waited for either the Iron Rangers or a heritage moc to come in in my size (14 wide in most shoes) Eric, the store manager here was awesome and educated me on the lasts and what I'd need. A 14 is a unicorn... but I learned that a Iron Ranger or the 1907 would fit me in a 13.Well, both came in...this week and I couldn't wait for Saturday to come so I could get in and try them on.The Iron Rangers fit like a glove... with absolutely no discomfort at all... but I'm used to jump boots from the Army. They were in Copper RT too....man it was hard to not buy them.My family all liked the 1907s better...and since I told my wife 'you're going to see a lot these boots' I decided to get the 1907s and ... MoreA local Red Wing store opened a few months ago here...i have waited and waited for either the Iron Rangers or a heritage moc to come in in my size (14 wide in most shoes) Eric, the store manager here was awesome and educated me on the lasts and what I'd need. The 1907s had a little heel slip, until the heel counter wears in...so we swapped out to longer leather laces, the ankle wrap, and now I definitely don't have any heel slip, but I do have to pay the price and break in the uppers. The foot itself is fine. Not the comfort of the Iron Ranger (to me) right now but I'm sure they will become well loved in time.My wife looked at every leather in the store and said the Copper R+T was her pick. I totally agree. Of course, in time they will become much darker but that's a few treatments down the road minimum. So these 1907s are easy to wear and no real issues. Wife loves them, and I'm super happy to clear out a lot of inferior, old, not perfect, or just plain wrong boot and shoes in my closet. Gonna donate everything but my Harley riding boots and I might keep my Keen Tarhee 2 hikers for the really rough stuff. Can't wait to see how they look and feel in a few years.

These are simply the best Red Wing Boots. They have the most modern last of all Red Wings which is designed to accommodate insoles. They have the best construction versus their other models with both a full leather heel cup and leather lining vs cardboard leather heel cup and cotton lining on their Iron Rangers. And they are cheaper than the latter. So, once you break them in, with the help of a nice insole you can make these as comfortable as your running shoes, probably more. If you time your purchase strategically and buy them on a sale then you can't get a better value quality product that is also made in America and has fantastic warranty support and ability to wear for years with many resoling options.Simply the best!P.S. These are by far the most uncomfortable boots I ever owned. After year and a half of trying to like this awesome looking boots, it never formed to the feet. First pair had issues and was replaced by the store, this second pair is plain ridiculous. Literally sleeping if your feet, unless lashed up to the point of painful. Leather is extremely uncomfortable for walking, too stiff ( never got any better) and if you made a mistake to wear it with thicker socks, well then you are pretty much asking for it. Even got the wide one for extra comfort, but poor craftsmanship and horrible wearer. All the fake reviews must me ignored, because it seems like people just are willing to sacrifice comfort for looks. I bought them a couple of weeks ago in a store in St. Louis. I usually wear my sneakers in 10. After trying different sizes in the shop I found that 9 EE is the best fit for me. I have several pairs of heritage boots from other brands so I knew that break-in process would not be easy. So I started by wearing them in my apartment for several days. Now I am at the point where I can take medium-distance (i.e., about 3 to 4 miles) walks in them. So far everything feels as I expected and they look very nice. The boots are no cheap, but the price is justified as the boots are well made and the materials used are of a high quality. There are better boots (whatever that means) in the world and there are cheaper moc toe boots in the market, but at this price range these Red Wing boots are hard to beat. Especially in the case of 1907 as they come with a set of leather laces and Red Wing leather footbeds that RW is selling for 45 dollars.I like Red Wing leathers a lot and copper rough and tough on these is one my favorites. Many people on the internet complain that the welt is fake. But this is incorrect. It is not Norwegian welt (as some claim), but it definitely is a storm welt as RD claims in the description of these boots. You can find similar kind of welt on many other heritage boots (my Burford boots from Loake have a storm welt albeit without stitch).
Great boots overall. They've broken in nicely and have held up to anything I've thrown at them. Very little breakdown after a lot of wear. These boots do show more light cuffs and scratches due to the nap of the leather but brush out easily. Aesthetically, tough and elegant. Versatile enough to wear on a job site or dress up for a out. The quality of the construction of the boot is evident in all facets. My only complaint is the leather laces. I conditioned them as advised by a red wing store associate and got several wears without issue but sure enough, as reported in other reviews, the laces inevitably busted even with being careful not to tug on them too hard. I think it may have been a defect in the leather but still, wouldn't expect that for a high dollar pair ... MoreGreat boots overall. I have been having some issue with my feet for a while and I feel sure it’s from wearing cheaply made imported boots. So, I decided to bite the bullet and spend a few extra bucks for something well made here in the USA.This is the first pair of Red Wing boots I have owned that are actually branded as Red Wing. Back in my lineman days, I have worn many pairs of Hall line boots which were manufactured by Red Wing at that time, and they were always comfortable and long-lasting boots. With that said, these Red Wing boots I purchased are no doubt the best made boots you will ever find. I have short stubby Fred Flintstone feet 8EE. These boots feel absolutely great on my feet. I have short stubby Fred Flintstone feet 8EE. These boots feel absolutely great on my feet. However, this past weekend I decided to wear them for the first time to start breaking them in. I had dropped my wife off at an appointment and went to do some shopping while waiting on her. I was only gone for about an hour. By the time I got back to where I had dropped her off, I could hardly walk as the heels of both feet were completely raw from where the back of the boots had rub against my heels. I had worn thick heel athletic socks knowing the boots would be somewhat uncomfortable while breaking them in but the pain I experienced was unreal. My heals were rubbed so raw that there was some small amount of blood that seeped through my socks onto the back of the boots. The issue is with the piece of leather sown into the back heel portion of the boot. It is a rough piece of leather. This piece of leather should always have a smooth finished like the two pieces sown on the left and right insides of each boot. You can see the obvious difference in the leather sown into the heel vs that of the sides. The rough finished leather in the heel grabs your socks and rubs up and down the back of your heel every step you take. It’s like having a piece of 60 grit sandpaper on your heel. I know eventually the lather will smooth out, but these boots should have never been manufactured like this. For now, I have added some heel guards, which I hope help along with wearing thick socks and Band-Aids will allow me to finish breaking them in.I give Red Wing 4 stars for the overall rating but only 3 for the craftsmanship. It would have been 5 stars all the way except the heel reinforcement leather not having a smooth finish.
For a thin guy with a wide foot this boot is perfect. I normally wear a size 11D in shoes but I bought a 10.5D and it fits perfect. I tried a variety of 875 style boots but the 10.5D was too narrow in the toebox and the 10.5E & EE were too roomy in the ankle, the 11D was just too long. The 1907 is unique because it is built on the 45 last which is a different (wider) footprint from the 23 last that the other men's moc toes are built on (the 875 style).People love to hate on the welt, but it makes it much easier to clean as there is not a crevice like the 875 has. NO it's not a Norwegian welt. YES, it is a split reverse welt, as described. The footbed is also nice especially if you're thin because it fills out the volume in the boot. This avoids the caved in look that can happen in leather boots.I have a pair of 10875s, a pair of Loggermax, and Wingshooter STs, but these are by far my favorite from Red Wing.Wear these in your house for a week before committing because there's no return policy on these puppies if you take em outside. The break in is to be expected. Your heel will slip somewhat initially with a proper fit, but that will go away with time. Listen to the pros at the Red Wing store but also do your own research and listen to your feet. Yes the boots will mold to your foot, but only within reason. In my experience, if you're getting pinched in your toebox it is too tight. Not even a month of hard wear will fix that problem. On the other hand, if your toes are comfortable, you may have some heel slip but as I said, that goes away with time.I wear these all day everyday and work as a delivery driver for a large company.
I don’t know where to begin, other than one clear takeaway, “be ready for great materials but poor workmanship and lot of headache that comes with it.”To be clear, this is my third pair (first store tried to sell a display pair, second was not symmetrical in inside) and third one, just looks plain dumb! Basics of shoes is that both shoes should be somewhat mirror copies of each other. But in this pair, right shoe of 1907 is so badly and sadly sanded that there is hardly any midsole left making shoe almost impossible for re-soling down the line. Why was this passed in Quality Control and why do I have check this every time meticulously for a 370$ shoe? Shapes of both shoes don’t look remotely identical… so much for handcrafted shoes. Look at 4th picture. So word of caution to buyer … either be ready to go through the hassle or take your business elsewhere until RW gets their act together …I have spent close to $1200 on three pairs (3340,8085 and 1907) and I am now wondering if I have made the right decision. I have made number of trips to store for previous issues and just don’t have willpower left to explain issue to the store and make more trips in hope of them resolving. If Red Wing customer service contacts me and if this entails issue resolution from my home, then I am willing to listen. Company as large as Red Wing should stand behind their products.
I bought these boots a while back for style. So I gave them a chance to break in over the few weekends that I wore them. Definitely broken in, but my right boot feels significantly smaller on the inside, causing my big toe to hit the front when trying to take a full step. Which is causing extra creasing in the top layer of the toe box and the crease is touching the top of my big toe nail. My dad bought a pair of these which are broken in and I can’t help but to notice my boots are not the same shape/ quality. I know they are handmade but I don’t think it’s supposed to be this significantly different. My 1907 copper rough and tough have the shape of the 875 with a more pointed toe, and my dads 1907 have more of a boxed toe. My 1907 copper rough and tough have the shape of the 875 with a more pointed toe, and my dads 1907 have more of a boxed toe. I can’t help the fact that I'm convinced it is a defect according to completely different shape, look and feel. Especially the feel on the inside of the boots. My right boot looks and feels like it’s forcing my foot to feel forced crooked left like the shape of the boot, which you can see with the extra creases that I haven’t had on my work moc toes. I brought the attention and concerns causing my toe pain to my local Red Wing store but they told me they don’t see anything wrong said they could not exchange or return them because they have been worn. Yet the 1907 next to it that are also broken in looks a lot more straight and even wider on the toe box area. I bought the 1907’s because of the wider toe box and different last but it feels and looks like the original moc toe shape, even if I remove the leather insole. I would really appreciate someone helping me out with this issue. Please and thanks
My first pair of Red Wings. I did my research. I knew it was going to be a rough break-in period. But I still wasn’t prepared for how rough. I wore them solid for a week. Some days with one sock, most days with double-socks. I tied them as tight as my feet would allow. My heels hurt as did the outside of my foot just below my baby toe. At first I wondered if the boots actually break-in or my feet just get so callused they get used to it. Good news, after 8 days I can wear them (mostly) comfortably with one pair of socks and I know they will break-in even more over time. You will hate the break-in period and start to question life itself. But in the end you will love the boots even more because you gave a little piece of your soul to them. The boots make you work ... MoreMy first pair of Red Wings. I did my research.
