Went to my local store for a pair of supersole 2.0 work boots. Saw these on display and on an impulse bought them also. This color is really cool and wears in with a unique finish. They are much lighter in person than the photos. After I knew they fit properly I decided to darken them with mink oil.I see no issues with my pair but I can understand how some might have a problem with the eyelets digging into the tongue. The craftsmanship definitely isn't perfect there.Mine fit like a glove and a half size down (same width) from the supersole size was perfect. Didn't even have to try on multiple pairs. Recently I have been trying out different boot brands. I’ve tried 4 different boots so far, and these are by far the best ones. I bought in person, which I highly recommend, if possible.I’ve heard from other reviews that the break in period is horrible. But in my experience, that’s a load. The so called break in period was a literal walk in the park. If you have softer feet, definitely purchase a footbed, and go half a size up. I purchased the flat comfort footbed, and while it does soften up the bottoms, it takes up a decent amount of space, so go a size up in my experience.Sick shoes though. Definitely my favorite shoe at the moment, out of the 4 that I own. Do not listen when people say the break in period is difficult. It’s not.

I bought these boots in Copper almost two years ago, and I could not love them more. I'm a person who appreciates and is willing to pay for quality, and these stand out as one of the highest quality products I've ever bought. The leather is thick and tough, the construction is bulletproof, and I love knowing they were handmade by craftsmen in the United States. They feel straight from another century, before things were mass produced and cheaply made.I have worn these boots in every situation from hiking to camping to date nights in the city to my job in corporate finance. They've seen me on excursions across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. The more experiences I have in them, the more attached to them I seem to become, which is fine with me, ... MoreI bought these boots in Copper almost two years ago, and I could not love them more. These boots were not comfortable at first. In fact, they hurt quite a bit. But I had read enough to be prepared and correctly believed the initial discomfort would be worth it. Once that break-in period was over, the leather softened and formed to my feet to the point that these boots now feel like an extension of me.It's amazing how many compliments I get on these, and it's always cool to meet someone else wearing them. People who own these boots really love them and love talking about them. If you're someone like me who values quality over quantity, invest in a pair of Iron Rangers. You won't regret it.

Red Wing reviewI always wanted Iron Ranger, so i decided to pull a trigger and ordered 8085. As soon as i opened the box i noticed a big difference in color between them, toe cap on the left was much darker than the right one, also, after a few days i noticed that the right toe cap is bigger and wider than the left one and they also feel completely different when i put them on, left one is tight as it should be, while the right one is much more loose no matter how tight i lase them. I understand my feet aren't the same but i have no issues like that on any of my other footwear other than with IR. All those reasons are something i can accept, but the biggest issue is that they seem like they're made from completely different leather, left one had very deep creases ... MoreRed Wing reviewI always wanted Iron Ranger, so i decided to pull a trigger and ordered 8085. You can tell that this is a boot built to last a long time, but for 379€ and considering RW reputation, i expected much better quality control.
Lack of total perfection doesn't mean I'm not very pleased with my Iron Rangers. I am. Rugged leather upper with thick oil infused pull up quality, Vibram mini lug low profile outsole, leather insole with cork filler in the goodyear welt construction, and classic workwear looks. That is a great overall boot package. All for under $400.00. You'll have a hard time finding those features in a U.S made boot for that price. It's been a couple of months and break in wasn't totally painless, but not bad at all when you know what to expect. There's only one imperfection and that's when the technician was sanding the edges of the outsole to match the welt, they were having a bad day and came very close to the stitching in the welt on one side of one boot. I debated on whether to send them back, but it really didn't affect the performance of the boot at this stage, and you have to be looking for it to even notice it. It just isn't an issue now. Although I don't think it will ever be an issue, when it comes time for recrafting, I'll send them to Red Wing and if it is a problem, I have every confidence they will stand by their product. So, although there is that imperfection which I'm sure will amount to nothing really problematic now or in the future, I'm very happy with these boots and look forward to many years of service.
I first bought a pair of 8111 Amber Harness from a local reseller in France. But I really wanted the 8085 model.I sold my 8111 and got the Blacksmith 3343 from Redwing Amsterdam and I'm currently waiting for the Iron Ranger 8085 from Redwing Berlin.Overall the Iron Ranger certainly is very nice. Unless you come from the sneaker world, the breaking period is not that bad. It took me a couple weeks to get comfy in them.I was disappointed to see that whathever product you apply, even the RW leather cream, even every three months, it will always get darker. If I have one advice : simply do not condition them at all. Use a sponge with hot water and brush, nothing more.Redwing, you should seriously consider opening an official store in France. My local approved reseller in Lyon only had a very limited number of models/sizes available. And from what I understood the supply chain for them has some hiccups as they are not in the priority lane. In contrasts, why should there be three official stores in Germany ?
I bought the 8085 Iron Rangers from a Red Wing store in New York last week. After a few wears, I noticed the speedhooks were not properly installed, and the backs had sliced and shredded the leather of the tongue. If you see the attached photo, you'll probably wonder how this ever made it out of the factory. One shoddy hook would've been an oversight, but ALL SIX speed hooks on BOTH boots are like this. I checked my older pairs of Iron Rangers, and the backs of the hooks are smooth and rolled over at the edges, as they should be. Also, if you look at the tag stitching on the tongue of my photo, you can seen entire section of stitching in the upper corner has already split and pulled back through the tongue. Not sure I can even get back to the same store any time ... MoreI bought the 8085 Iron Rangers from a Red Wing store in New York last week. A great quality boot. The surprising part of the copper boots was how easy it was to rub away scratches using your fingers/cloth and the mink oil which is a must. Was quick to break in after daily use. I would recommend getting properly fitted with the 3D scanner and try using the leather insoles. The soles are pretty tough and grip enough for most surfaces. It is a harder sole, unlike softer rubbers, these will tend to slip on polished concrete. These had decent traction in snow. The laces are rough, so it holds well without double knotting. Some minor wear/fraying in particular locations. The length works well for me at size 6.5.The back of the quick hooks are are scratching tongue, which was remedied by using felt tape. I have to admit that one of my boots was made ALMOST flawlessly. But, the other boot (the left) was a mess. The welt was cut way too short. The leather on that same boot was quite thin, while the other boot's leather was up to par. Although I still think it (might) hold up, it annoys me that the texture, feel, and durability of the leather that is on my pair of boots are and will be completely different. To top it off, my mostly flawless (as in leather) right-side boot has a different issue. As in the outsole is starting to separate after ONE month of wear. Not kidding look at the photos. It's not anything too horrible, but you would expect almost perfect and flawless craftsmanship in such a premium-priced boot. I love to make jokes about left and right shoe ... MoreI have to admit that one of my boots was made ALMOST flawlessly. But, the other boot (the left) was a mess. The welt was cut way too short. I'll try to keep it short and concise, I've spent a lot of money on Red Wing over the past couple of years because of how much I loved the brand, although QC has truly left me wondering if the money spent was ever worth it.As can be seen in the photos my boots appear to have dry rot or something in the copper rough and tough leather. This isn't the first time i've had this issue. I had the same thing happen to a lesser degree in two pairs of 1907s as well.I was denied warranty because there was a small amount of mildew starting to show from under the leather sockliner in the heel of the insole (the mildew is NOT what affected the leather on the OUTSIDE of the boot as my 1907s never had mildew in them and had the same issue). I've regrettably had to throw out ... MoreI'll try to keep it short and concise, I've spent a lot of money on Red Wing over the past couple of years because of how much I loved the brand, although QC has truly left me wondering if the money spent was ever worth it.As can be seen in the photos my boots appear to have dry rot or something in the copper rough and tough leather. I've regrettably had to throw out $2000 (canadian I might add) of Red Wings in the last 8 months because of mildew issues. I'm not sure if I'm just extremely unlucky or Red Wing has changed something in their manufacturing but I'm now scared to even wear my 8138s, 875s, and even my 8864s in fear of mold growth (I should add I always wear shoe trees and rotate shoes to prevent over saturation of moisture, yet I still get hit with issues) - and having to throw out another $1500 worth of boots on top of the now $2500 including this pair of IRs. I may be foolish for spending so much but I really wanted to support a brand I really enjoyed.Safe to say I will not be recommending Red Wing because of all the issues i've had with their boots.
