Red Wing 875 Classic Moc Toe Leather Boots - Oro Legacy

(448 reviews)

Practically identical to the iconic 877, the 875 is simply a shorter iteration. It's six inches of premium Red Wing Oro Legacy leather combined with Goodyear welt construction, a Traction Tred rubber outsole and triple stitched quality. Red Wing's Classic Work boots were designed and built to withstand the daily rigors of the work day on the farm and in the factory. The lightweight crepe sole featured a minimal tread design to reduce the mud that would cling to a farmer's boots but still provide the underfoot comfort the work day required. Red Wing would brand the crepe sole as the Traction Tred sole. These classic boots featured a moc toe design. The name came from the word moccasin, the Algonquian Indian word for shoe. This combination of the u-shaped moc toe leather upper and the white crepe sole would become the iconic boot style for the Red Wing brand. It is one of the oldest Red Wing styles and a best-seller.

Big fan of Redwing but not these boots

I bought a pair of these about 6 months ago. They were my first moc toe wedge heel boot. I'm not a fan. The first flaw I noticed was right away the stitching on the leather cuff around the top (were you put your foot in) fell apart on both boots. The wedge sole heel worn down extremely quickly. The moc toe above the sticking pulled open after time and looks like crap. The worse thing is the comfort. Long after I broke them in, I spend about 10 hours walking around in them and by the end of the day my feet hurt so bad I could barely take another step. I think this is because there isn't a shank. I might resole them, or simply toss them in the trash. If you do want to get a pair, size down. My iron rangers are a 9 but I had to get an 8.5 in these boot.

Purchased my pair of 875s in Nov 2020 and they have been in regular cool season rotation since the day they came out of the box. Materials and build quality is top notch - these boots will easily last 10-15 years! I get lots of compliments as they look so darn good. They would be perfect if they were more comfortable! The rock-hard flat insole lacks any cushion and only provides modest arch support. The feel heavy, unforgiving, and primitive on my feet - I am always happy to take them off at the end of the day. But did I say they do look good?! With that said, I am happy purchased these boots and will be investing in some quality footbeds to see if I can find more comfort and arch support. Quality product by Redwings.

Great boots!! Had a few other brands but really nothing compares to these. Break in period is a little rough, but once they do they are very comfortable.Tips:If you are buying redwing for the first time they run BIG. I wear a size 10 in Nike, but a size 8 in redwing. Keep that in mind when ordering it will save you some time and hassle of having to return / exchange sizesIf you don’t mind darkening them, ie actually going to use them for work. Oil them with neatsfoot oil, 2 or 3 good coats, then use Sno-Seal. Results will give you soft, waterproofed boots to keep you feet dry. Also cuts down the break in period and they will really mold to you feet

Life changing boots
9 February 2023

I have worn these boots everyday for 3 years and above all they are an extension of my body. I had the soles replaced 1x during that period and the toe re stitched for $125 @ redwing. I am about up for another. Previously I would wear Keens and get 1 year out of them before all the glue and rubber blew apart. Some days the boots are completely soaked for a full day, no problems just keep stomping along. I used to oil them every week and hold my nose higher but after so long the grind takes over and no matter what the boots are next to my bed for the next day. I don’t see how I could ever try another boot let alone get a new pair. I love these boots and hate the company that sells them.

Moc Toe 875's
1 August 2022

I bought these boot several months ago. I'd start off by saying the quality and construction is excellent. Very please with the 875's. Breaking in the 875 was no easy feat. Wearing the boots it took over 160 hours before I was confident enough to wear them out of my home. The lesson I learned was on week two I tried to walk on a trail and due to the rigid nature of the boot where the back of heel is I got very bad blisters. My fault, not the fault of the 875's. They 875's weren't even close to being broke in. I went back to wearing the 875's exclusively at home. After 160 hours of wear..... Yeah that's one solid month of time wearing them 40 hours a week. Now the 875's are comfortable. After 3 months of full wear on the 875's they fill like my slippers. The ... MoreI bought these boot several months ago. Now the 875's are comfortable. After 3 months of full wear on the 875's they fill like my slippers. The vegetable tan inner soul and cork mold directly to your foot. The 875's are so comfortable that I went out and bought a pair of 1907's, which have a different last. After breaking in the 875's I know how to break in the 1907's. I walk five miles a day on desert mountain trails and rotate the boots. The desert heat tends to dry out the leather so every 8 weeks I saddle soap and condition the boots. Dang things still look like new.

Most comfortable work boots ever.
24 May 2023

I walked into the Redwing store and the very nice and helpful lady at the counter asked how she could help me. I simply replied, I'm looking for the perfect work boot for me, no pressure. She chuckle as she stepped out from behind the counter and said, challenged excepted. Together we talked about what I was looking for and what I needed and tried on several different models for almost an hour. I finally settled on these boots with the thickest insoles, and after slowly breaking them in over a couple of weeks I'm now a Redwing believer! I will now be a Redwing customer for life. They are truly the most comfortable work boots I've ever worn. One tough boot
11 March 2023

This is my second pair of Red Wings, but the first of the 875's. Excellent quality. And they are tough. I work in commercial and industrial electrical construction. Both interior and outdoor ( airports, new construction) and these fit the bill. BUT they have to be broken in AND you need insoles to be the most comfortable. They will be tight when you first get them. I use different thickness socks until they are broken in. I also use nikwax or other waterproofing if I know I'm going to be outside alot or in muddy conditions.Dont think I'll ever get a different boot.

Red Wing, amirite?

This is my second pair of Red Wings, and I'm not disappointed. These are the first pair i've owned in the Oro Legacy leather. Out of the box, they are undoubtedly orange. I expect a fabulous patina over the years I will own these. Application of mink oil gives a hint of this colouring - they definitely darken and the browns come out.I've included a pic of the boots one day after an application of mink oil. The initial extreme darkening has faded and they are almost back to their initial colour.Like other Red Wing moc toes, the fit is about a 1/2 size bigger than your normal size. So, if you have a 9 sneaker, order a 8.5. Wonderful boods; great buying experience
26 October 2022

My first pair of Red Wings. Because of my uncertainty about size, I went to the brick and mortar store in Fairfax, Virgina. The sales person (Carl, I think) had me try on several different sizes before settling on the one I bought. I've had them for two weeks and have worn them for about seven days total with several long walks and lots of standing while working and cooking. My impression at this point: These are among the most comfortable, supportive boots I've ever had. They were a little bit stiff at first, but the break-in period was quick. Now I can wear them all day without any discomfort even if I'm working on my feet. I expect they will outlast me (I'm 71).I can't say enough about the Fairfax store. They had a great selection and the sales person spent almost 30-minutes making sure I had the correct fit. Some reviews on this site have criticised the craftsmanship of new Red Wing boots. Mine are perfect. Plus, the leather is top quality.

wanted to like them, but can't
28 January 2023

I was all set to own and love these for many years to come. Years went by in a matter of 2 days. I'm uncertain (confounded, really) how people don't hate the feeling of that giant seam that wraps around the entire top front of your foot. I was permitted to return them if they were worn on carpet or wood floors and not scuffed in any way. I worn them for about 30 min each of the 2 days and they had to go back. Proper size, but the seam digs into the top of your foot, badly ESPECIALLY if you flex you foot. So disappointed. I remember first seeing Dan Connor (Rosanne tv show) buying a pair and wondered who makes this type, since I've seen them around since I was a kid. Wrong assumption!try these on and get them only if you have a return period.
