Came Up a Little Short

It's not the cable-- I swapped several around, and the connector is just too short, Besides, the cables all work perfectly when tested on the negative connector. It's a small, annoying manufacturing defect that's not worth returning the unit over. This inverter is a real powerhouse. I've utilized it to operate my Amateur Radio Station (Ham Radio) and its accompanying accessories. The only thing I would suggest is adding a second battery for those overcast days. Renogy recommends using two 170-ampere-hour batteries, which is spot on! If you're looking for a reliable source of reserve power for your 120-volt requirements, this inverter is an excellent choice. With its impressive 6000-watt surge capacity, it can handle a wide range of equipment and gear.

The form. fit, function and build quality of this 3000W inverter are very impressive at this price point. The delivery was so fast I had the unit in hand in less than 24hrs! Wow. I am also using a 2000W Renogy inverter in always-on mode to power lights and fans and such. The power is very clean and stable with varying loads. The 3000W is used with mainly an induction cooktop. Intermittent use makes the supplied remote very handy. Well done, Renogy. P.S. Your solar panels are also very good.

Great mid size inverter

This is the second of these units I have owned. The first one went in an area of my boat that had condensing salty moisture. This one lasted only a year and upon opening it, there was a lot of corrosion inside. Now I have it under a seat on the inside of the 46 foot boat. Having a 120 volt standard refrigerator out in the Bahamas, I need to run it 24/7. I was having all sorts of trouble with the ground fault tripping, but found that all of it went away when I removed the galvanic isolator. Being that I spend 6 months at anchor and very little in marinas, this fix is not a problem. I could also put it back in the wiring in about 5 minutes if spending any time at marina. I think this could be a problem in any boat with this type of isolator. Being under a seat, it ... MoreThis is the second of these units I have owned. I think this could be a problem in any boat with this type of isolator. Being under a seat, it does not have the best cooling, but for out standard 100-200 watt draw, I don't seem to have a problem. If cooking using 1000-1500 watts, it is ok up to about 20 minutes. If longer or higher loads like my 2000 watt water heater, I just take the seat top off while in use. So far it has run continuously now for 4 months without a problem. It will also run my 16,000 btu a/c unit if other loads are not really being used. I did install a soft start just to be a little easier on it, but it runs the other one also without soft start. I also love that I never even hear it run.

High side of inverter output must be shorted.
1 April 2023

the high output of the unit cannot handle even 700 watt microwave that only draws 5.8 amps. people in Philippines told me 4/O cables are "Recommended" between the unit and my battery bank and that is why the unit trips my 300 amp breaker. I have 4ga wire.I complained there MUST be something bad inside the unit. 5.8 amp load does not equate to over a 300 amp pull from the batteries.Renogy refused to accept an exchange. The people in Philippines do not understand the word recommended. They insisted that 4/O cable will fix the problem. They think "recommended" means absolute, like it MUST have. They could NOT come to comprehend that unless there is something wrong inside the inverter there is no way a 5.8a demand can equate to an over than 300a draw.

Need 4/0 wire from the battery and a 300 amp fuse?
16 June 2023

Just got the 3000W delivery today and made a partial installation. I want to put a fuse between the battery and the input of the inverter. NOWHERE in the book does it show what can be used. I called California and this girl tells me I need 4/0 wire from the battery and a 300 amp fuse. I have taken inverters out of police and ambulance vehicles and NEVER have I seen 4/0 wiring or a 300 amp fuse installed. They need to reevaluate their manuals & tech support. As an electrician for 30+ years I do believe they need to do something.

Poor AC connections
18 April 2023

I bought the 3000W 12V Pure Sine Wave InverterSKU: RNG-INVT-3000-12V-P2-US. The three screws connections for attaching the AC input are too close together to allow bent 10/2 wires. They are also too small to attach the yellow 10 AGW spade clamps that fit onto the 10/2 wires. The screw connections only have room for the red, smaller gauge wire spade clamps, which of course are too small to carry a 3000 watt load. I contacted Renogy for assistance asking to know how their technical design team connected 10/2 wire to the connections. They asked me to provide a video of me unable to connect the wires they recommend using. I'm still waiting for them to send me a video of how their design team connected the wires.

I've had this inverter installed in my 2022 Rockwood 2883WS for almost a year now. It's connected to four Renogy lithium batteries, each with a capacity of 100 ampere-hours, and I also have the factory-installed 1500-watt inverter. When I require additional power, I plug my shore power into this inverter and disable my converter. During a recent 4-day camping trip to Lawson's Landing in California, we used this setup to run appliances like the microwave, electric water heater (occasionally), and coffee makers without ever needing to use the generator. Additionally, I have an 800-watt solar panel system mounted on the trailer. I've also installed soft starts on my 15,000 BTU and 13,500 BTU air conditioners, and this inverter can run each of them individually without any problems, although they cannot run simultaneously. I enthusiastically recommend this combination of inverter and batteries, and I honestly believe it meets our boondocking needs perfectly. While the ability to power the air conditioner is a nice bonus, it's more of a bragging point for me than a necessity!

Some opportunities
17 April 2022

1)When installing the way I needed it to fit in my van the 3000 Watts lettering is upside down. No biggie as it is in the garage, but would have been nice to be able to flip it over, or just provide a decal to put on after installation.2) The terminals on the AC output are way to small. You should be attaching #10 stranded wires to each terminal fir 25 amps and surges to 50 amps (6,000W). The terminals are too small to accept a #10 ring or fork connectors. Trying to get all the wires under the screw without a ring on the end means strands of wires sticking out all over as the terminal is too small.3) The other issue is that the wire input on the terminal is facing whatever you are attaching the inverter to. This gives you 1" to get #10 wires to turn 90 ... More1)When installing the way I needed it to fit in my van the 3000 Watts lettering is upside down. Also a larger size that would accommodate #10 easily.
