This is a medium coverage foundation which you can easily build if you want more coverage or apply less for a lighter coverage. I don't like heavy foundations. After setting for a bit, it stays on very well, and can be built up with another thin brushed or sponged layer for extra coverage. It works so well with any silicone based primer (I use elf's poreless putty primer) and lasts a long time. When it does come off, it doesn't break as much as just disappear, which I prefer as it looks cleaner at the end of the day

An excellent dupe for the expensive stuff.
23 December 2023

This stuff is like liquid gold for the face. My favorite foundation I have been using for years from a big brand name cosmetics brand is not only in a dry press powder but it is expensive as well so I can’t just run out and grab a whole bunch of it when it runs out, but this Revlon ColorStay was right in my local Walmart at the right time so I grabbed it. Scared to use a liquid, I hesitantly grabbed my damp sponge, put the ColorStay on the back of my hand and began the dot and dab game of applying it to my face over a gripping primer, also available at your local Walmart. Baby, . . . .when I finished, my skin had the look and feel of an Egyptian Queen. Royalty I tell you straight Royalty This is one of my favorite and best dupes. Try it. You’ll love me for it.

Horrible new formula
4 February 2024

Definitely a new formula. I came here to see if I was crazy and luckily all of the reviews agree, there is a new formula and it is not good. I’ve used this foundation for a long time and it covered very well, blended well and didn’t dry fast. Which made it have this great satin finish that wasn’t oily looking. I bought sand beige and not only is it darker and more orange, it drys immediately and I can barely apply it to my face in time, so it’s splotchy looking. It’s also very matte and I did get the oily/combo type but never used to be this thin and matte. I have tried using it with nothing on my skin and using it with moisturizer serums and primer with the same result. Please fix it

Perfect color match
21 August 2023

I really miss the original Revlon Colorstay. You know, the one that came in the container without a pump. However, I do like the addition of the pump. I have dry skin but I also prefer full coverage foundation. The original formula was full coverage, so I only had to use a little bit and it would make my skin look amazing/flawless even in the hot and humid climate I live in. With the later formulas, they must have thinned them out or something because the coverage is just not there. You can see my skin underneath and I don't like that. I would not bother to wear foundation if I wanted my skin to show. If I add more foundation, it looks cakey. Also, I wear a mask and it is not entirely mask proof. It always wipes off a bit around my nose. I added an extra star ... MoreI really miss the original Revlon Colorstay. You know, the one that came in the container without a pump. I am happy they kept it and did not make it too pink, yellow, orange, peach, etc and other unnatural colors like other foundation brands have.

Honestly, calling one for oily skin and the other one for dry skin is a nonsense as the latter is not moisturizing in the least, in my opinion these are just twice the same product with only a few tweaks in the formulas to produce slighty different finishes and coverage levels.I’ve been using Colorstay for 16 years (I began with the SoftFlex formulas when they lauched in 2008). The SoftFlex formula was outstanding, it had iron-like lasting power and was 100% transfer-resistant. Then came the Time Release formula in 2011 (a complete formula change, especially the emulsifying ingredients)… and my 3 years love-story stopped there as the 2011 formulas (both "oily" and "dry") were absolutely horrendous on me, creasing like crazy and transferring onto everything like they never actually set. Between 2011 and 2022 there were some tweaks in the formulas but nothing major nor noticeable. This 2022 formula for dry skin is not a real improvement over the previous formula. It has a slightly runny texture that glides easily on skin (even when spread with a brush). I do prefer a sponge as it meshes better with the skin. It dries neither too slowly nor too fast (and never to the point it flash-dries upon contact with the skin, like a competitor's formula do). It sets to a powdery finish (weird) which is a nonsense for dry skins.During the setting time it tends to slightly crease on some areas like under the eyes (I don't use concealer, foundation is enough), on the forehead and the smile lines (mine are almost non existent but the slightest creasing emphasizes that this area is not as young as it used to be 20 years ago). So, once blended I dab a clean brush (or my finger) remove any excess product and speed-up the setting process (finger is better for this point), then immediately set with a translucent loose powder. I don't rush to powder the rest of my face as no creasing occurs anywhere else. The color ever-so-slighly darkens during the setting time (which is common, so don't rely on wet swatches to choose your match) but it's barely noticeable with this new formula. Then it stays true-to-tone during its weartime, The previous formula also used to redden while setting, this one doesn't.The shine control is good and, as strange as it sounds, is better with this formula (because of its powdery finish) than the oily skin formula. The former Softflex formula for dry skin was much smoother and had a far better lasting power.Let's note that this formula has a problem that the "oily" formula doesn't share : the pigments stick onto the inner surface of the bottle, giving the illusion it's always full (even when the bottle is actually empty). As these pigments (especially the titanium dioxide) is not suspended in the formula anymore, the color seen from outside the bottle tends to become lighter (almost white) over time, while the actual product that's dispensed becomes darker and sheerer (even less than a tinted serum). The non blended pigments leaving huge white specks on the face in the former "dry" formula has only ever-so-slighty improved : I still see white specks, like tiny sand grains, but I admit that they are tinier than before (LOL).Although the word "fragrance" do not appear in the ingredient lists, both formulas are fragranced as they contain ethylene brassylate. Fortunately, the smell is much lighter than it used to be and is now barely noticeable (I have a sensitive nose, I smell it but it's much much lighter than before). Nonetheless it’s something to note for the most sensitive skins/eyes amongst us.The shades are not calibrated between "oily" to "dry" formulas. As an example, Buff in "oily" formula tends to be more olive and half a shade lighter than Buff in "dry" formula. And finally a comment on the chaotic numbering system. The pattern in the shades range has always been the same : the smaller the number the lighter the shade, the bigger the number the darker the shade. But with some new shades launches that occured a few years ago, this pattern is not reliable anymore. I tried the shades 135 Vanilla thinking it would be at least as pale as 150 Buff as its number is smaller… but nope, it is at least 2 shades darker. On the arms swatches pictures provided by Revlon, the shades are not even listed in ascending order of numbers, and the "smaller number but darker shade" occurs for many other shades than mine.Colorstay for dry skin won't get into my bathroom again until all the major problems are fixed.

amazing for oily skin

Think of oily skin and double it. Thats me. This product is probably the ONLY high street foundation that stays put on oily skin. I used this years ago and they changed it around 2013 (ish) and i hated the reformulated product, HOWEVER. Recently saw they had reformulated again so tried it .... back to my Holy Grail. The price is insane for the product. I was paying out for born this way matte which is the only other one that stayed, but that is now discon. I'm so happy to have this formula back!!!!! REVLON DO NOT CHANGE THIS.
