For a compact street photographer like myself this is the bees knees. No excuse not to go out and shoot with this camera. Cant wait to use it more. Its a product that feels good and natural in the hand. I WANT to go out and go shooting with it, it makes shooting fun and a joy again. No more complicated shoots. Just grab it and head out the door.

The perfect travel camera, really. It’s the best camera I’ve ever felt from an ergonomics standpoint, you can operate it with one hand. That means your left hand is free to hold coffee/beer/wine/a child’s hand. It also focuses quickly in good light, produces razor sharp images from wide open, and has great black and white jpegs. It also has in-body charging, so you don’t have to bring a separate battery charger if you’re packing light (though it does take a special type of cable, which is unfortunate). To date, this is probably the only camera I’ve ever bought that I have zero regrets about.

Bought if for the size, amazed by the performance!

After reading many reviews, I purchased the GR primarily for its pocketability for the times when a DSLR no longer fits the shooting situation. I did not expect the GR's IQ to surpass my K3 when similarly configured. It is amazing how low of a shutter speed can be hand held with the GR with acceptable results.Among the reviews the topic of dust on the sensor is probably the biggest negative of the GR. But I think to some degree the problem is subjective. Of the 3 DSLR's I've owned, with hundreds of lens changes, I have done remarkably few dust removal operations. Yes, if I make a deliberate effort to find dust on the DSLR sensor I can. But I have yet to have a picture I felt was ruined by dust and unrecoverable in post. Certainly your mileage may vary, but I plan on enjoying the GR, a true pocket sized camera, for what it can do, and not pixel peep myself into a panic. Should the sensor dust become objectionable I'll probably clean it myself.A while back I tried a Fuji x100s, I returned it because I did not like the ergonomics. Surprising the GR is even smaller but I find one hand operation quite easy. I ended up just threading a piece of paracord through the bottom strap point and making a small loop that the pinky finger fits through which keeps the camera safer with one hand operation. The menu system seems thought out fairly well. The focus speed is not perfect but acceptable for my style of shooting; I have not resorted to using the snap focus feature yet.As others have commented an external battery charger should have been included with a camera at this price point. Spare batteries are a must because this camera begs to be used and used a lot.

Fantastic little camera, killer image quality
9 February 2017

Awesome little camera, super sharp images and the ability to "set it and forget it" helps free me up to just shoot. So far loving the results and all the customizable features. Funky but fun camera, been as impressed with color photos as I have the black and white (although the black and whites are just spectacular). RAW files really do have a lot of malleability. Jpegs aren't bad either. Snap focus is where it's at, too. Lastly, while autofocus isn't fast in low light, imo it's plenty fast enough for normal outdoor shooting. Do not regret or have any buyers remorse when it comes to this camera.

Fantastic travel and street photography camera
26 March 2017

I've owned this camera for a few weeks now. Just getting back into photography recently after may years of shooting on a film Nikon FA and more recently Nikon D90. The Ricoh GRii is a great "take anywhere" camera. I keep it with me all the time and use it for street/travel and work/field camera. The black and white .JPEG's that come out of this camera are fantastic. The Snap focus feature helps to capture shots that ordinarily I would miss. The menus and customization are among the best I've seen. I wouldn't recommend this as your only camera but for street and travel it is just awesome - very pleased with my purchase.

Great camera very compact size. It takes wonderfull picture.I took this camera to Thailand vacation. I am amaze how colorful and sharp the picture look. I left setting in Aoto Mode most of the time. Only one big disappointment DUST get in the sensor very easily. I was in luck when I got back home I send it back to Adorama for warranty and great service. Thank you Adorama they ship me with a brand new one. I went ahead and bought hood kit hope to protect future dustFrom getting in again.

Iteration of a Legend
31 May 2018

The Ricoh GR series (first released as a film camera in the late 90's) is something of a whispered legend among photographers. I had heard these whisperings but only heeded them recently, when I looked for a second body to complement my Panasonic GX85. I wanted something that could cross boundaries between casual, everyday, always-on-me and serious image quality. There aren't a lot of options in this area, certainly not in this small and light of a package. If you're not familiar with the GR, I encourage you to compare the dimsensions and weight against any other semi-serious camera in existence. If you're not familiar with the GR, I encourage you to compare the dimsensions and weight against any other semi-serious camera in existence. This one is a true micro-wonder.Controls are highly customizable, photographer-oriented and easy to use. File quality is excellent, with DNG RAWs that can handle a nice amount of editing. The lens used, despite being a collapsible model, is stellar, possibly the sharpest 28mm equivalent lens I've ever seen. There is only one real problem with the GR II, and that's the possibility of dust on the sensor. The camera isn't well sealed against debris entering the body, and since it is a fixed lens it can't be cleaned by the user. I noticed a large dust spot after only three weeks of usage, which may have indeed been there from when I first received the camera. Fortunately Adorama has agreed to replace it for me. It's not the end of the world if I end up with more dust spots in the long run: it can be cleaned during the warranty period, and, if all else fails, dust spots can be cloned out. Still, this is a major thing to be aware of since most experiences I have read online do run into this issue. The camera is such a wonderkind that even with the dust issue in mind, it's worth it to anyone looking for what it offers.

As the saying goes. 'The best camera is the one you've got with you', and this one is the best in (compact) class. Although, obviously, not up to a DSLR with decent glass, I'm very impressed with the image quality and the thought that's gone into the controls should put many camera manufacturers to shame it's just so intuitive and quick. If it had a built in viewfinder / rangefinder it would be perfect; but then, I suppose, it would be a different beast more like the Fuji X100, which I also own and stays at home more these days. The best thing I like about this camera is that it makes you less noticed on the street sometimes I'm in, taken the photo, and out again before people notice what's happened. The best camera no one knows about

I have been shooting professionally for a few years now and I always saw Ricoh on the boxes in the corner of my local camera store.
