Ring - Spotlight Cam Wired - White

We have a spotlight camera in our Driveway and it has been great. The installation was easy and the audio and visuals are great on the app. I love that you can change the sensitivity on the motion detection and the night vision is awesome. My one issue is that in the winter, our batteries tend to take a massive hit and we have had to buy new batteries multiple times. This was before the solar panels were released or I think I would have purchased those instead.

The Ring spotlight cameras are amazing!! Motion detection can be adjusted to your liking! The video quality is amazing no matter what the weather is!! They are water proof and very durable! Installation is very simple and easy. The battery life lasts a month or so but they have solar panels and I never have to change the batteries on the cameras I have this on! We have had some of ours outside for seven or eight years now with no issues!! I stand by all Ring products!! We have just about every product they sell! The option to save recordings is also very cheap monthly!!

Best two bills I ever spent! Perfect alternative to the Ring doorbell.

I have had my battery operated Ringcam installed for 3 weeks and I have no regrets with it! The camera has holds for two batteries... one in use and one back up for when the first one runs out so you can have constant use of your camera.* Once installed, all camera settings are controlled through the app, which is so basic and simple to understand.* The only negative, is nothing to do with the camera, but I have an iPhone7 and the app is rapidly draining the battery on my phone with the constant alerts and recordings (again this is currently due to my settings) but I need to get a new phone anyway... So be prepared for higher phone battery usage.* Finally, I called Ring customer services prior to buying a product from Ring. I originally wanted a Ring Doorbell, but due to the position of my front door the doorbell just wouldn't have been right for me. They advised me about the camera and it's functions so I bought based off their advice. The customer service from them was absolutely excellent, so that sealed the deal.*I will be setting up my subscription to save all my video footage (they give you 30 days free). The subscription is quite affordable, I think its £28 for the whole year (for one device) which includes warranty on my device.

Do not buy in if you live in cold weather

Already reviewed that the batteries last a week in cold weather. I do bring in and charge (pain to get a ladder out in snow) but my point was/is....RING should say that the battery does not last in cold weather or extreme heat on the box. So after spending over $200 on device and extra battery, the suggestion is to spend more on a solar panel. The response link is not helpful. It only tells me what I found out the hard way, which is you have to charge batteries often in Michigan. Ugh! THAT should be disclosed upfront!! THAT's the point because at this point I do not need a link to something telling me I will have to charge often in the winter and possibly in the summer if we have a 'hot one'.

I am only not recommending this product as there is one glaring design fault. The power lead is wired into the unit at one end with a 3 pin plug on the other. Now given this is for outdoors installation unless you have an external waterproof plug socket how are you meant to plug it in! Add to this if its plugged in outside what is to stop an intruder just unplugging it. I am competent with electrics and have carefully disconnected the wires from the unit and drilled a 10mm hole through one of my external walls, fed the power lead from the inside of my house through the wall to the outside then reconnected the lead to the unit and mounted the unit flush on the outside wall so there is no cable on show which adds extra security. Now Ring might say they sell a battery operated unit but if you want these spotlights to be secure they need to be high enough up the wall so an intruder could not simply rip it off or cover the lens. If doing this with a battery unit you then have the problem of getting high enough to change the battery, The plug in one is far more reliable and the solution is simple. Re design the unit with an adapter that fits through a small hole in a wall. If you are competent with wiring then it is a great product but if not then you are going to have some installation and security issues.

This camera plugs into a regular outlet, with a two-prong plug like a toaster. Once I unboxed it, I realized, this means it really has limited use. If it's used outside, it would have to be plugged into an outdoor outlet, meaning an intruder could just unplug it, unless I figured out some other way to secure that, but I can't think of how, easily. I could bore a hole through the exterior of my house inside of the house to a nearby outlet that is secured, but that's an invasive procedure and I'm not that great a do-it-myselfer, what if I can't insulate and seal the hole well? I likewise could have run the cord through a notch in the insulation around my door, leaving a permanent corner or something open in the door, but that too would absolutely ruin insulation, letting heat and humidity into my Florida home near my library full of books, that is unacceptable. The best I could think of was to mount it fully indoors behind a window looking out, but this means leaving the window blinds open at all times allowing a view into the home, and if the camera caught motion outside, it would turn on the spotlights causing a glare on the window, blinding the camera and making it useless anyway. I've opened it and can't return it now, it doesn't suit my purposes after all, that's disappointing, and again I accept that it's my fault. But it still begs the question... under WHAT circumstances is this camera useful at all?? Indoor surveillance with a spotlight?

The Arlo is brilliant however the only reason why I’m not giving full score to the outdoor Ring camera, it’s because the designers didn’t think that an outdoor wired camera might need an internal electric socket connection. So for your outdoor camera to work outside, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OUTDOOR ELECTRIC SOCKETS to plug in your camera. Otherwise forget it. You will not be able to put a wire and the plug through the wall. The plug is safely attached to the wire so no chance of removing nor detaching from the wire.Improvement Points: Please design outdoor cameras with the possibility of detaching the plug or the wire from the camera. But when the camera doesn’t give you the chance to detach the wire either from the plug or the camera there’s no much we can do!, and the camera as good as it might be, it becomes useless.

I bought two of these cameras for my backyard to monitor my car since we’d had a series of break ins. The cameras were easy to setup and I really liked rings app. It pretty much offers everything that you might want from a security camera app. I however couldn’t get a remotely clear picture from the cameras. If you stand 15 feet away from them the details become very hard to figure out. In some of the videos it was even hard to tell the gender of the person walking by my car. It reported a perfect connection but even then the picture quality was not good. The camera was 6 fit away from a book shelf and you couldn’t even see the titles even on bigger books so the problem is not really the wireless connection and it must something with the image sensor. On top of that when these cameras reported low wifi signals my iPhone had a strong enough signal next to them so whatever antennas these cams have are not as strong.As for battery life, I had to charge them once in the first three weeks, which might be ok given I was testing the units frequently. In any events I returned mine since they would not help me catch anyone.I don’t recommend this camera if you need to get faces or if you live in a place that is not optimal for wireless networks (downtown, Concrete walls, etc)
