We love our weekly family game nights, especially now that I have introduced the new Risk Shadows Forces strategy board game into the mix. My whole family plays this game and can't get enough of it. With 15 missions, this 9x14 double sided gameboard will provide hours of fun for ages 13+. Needing 3-5 players for play, this game is easy to learn, and hard to quit as you find yourself getting immersed in the game play as you use warlord characters for the different modern warfare missions. Both of my girls ready enjoy roleplaying board games and strategy games like this, so they took to it instantly. My husband is not usually a board game guy, but after the first few minutes he was hooked, and said this was a must play each week when we gather around the dining table ... MoreWe love our weekly family game nights, especially now that I have introduced the new Risk Shadows Forces strategy board game into the mix. I played the original Risk board game with my siblings in the 1980's. The Risk Shadow Forces game is similar to the original in the basic idea of controlling the world and having a map of the world as the board. But, there are many differences in this new version that make it even better than the original. The board, cards and game pieces are visually appealing and well made. It is necessary to read the rules prior to playing. Our first game, we had to keep referring to the rules, but the next game was easier and so much fun. I played with my spouse and two teens and all liked it. My 16 year old even asked to play again the following night. The game changed so much the following night that we were engaged again. I am so glad I have added this game to my collection! We love games like this and this is definitely one of the most fun and wonderfully detailed games we have. The rulebook has everything you need to know about the game and including the story, information about the Warlords and Factions, and very clear instructions on the set ups and gameplays. I also love the detail they put into the game pieces and the artwork. If you like games like this, this is definitely a must have!

First thing there are a lot of instructions for the game. That can make the game a little intimidating. We tried to look for some videos on the internet but couldn’t find any. That may have made it easier to understand how to play it. But me and my family went over the instructions and just started playing. We started a game started and it worked out. It was fun to just start it and learn together. There are several games that it comes with to play and all the neat game pieces makes it fun to play. It is a neat game to play, and me and my family had fun and will have fun playing it.
I got this game for my family to play and we love it! It's similar to the original risk but a lot more happening! New characters and game pieces. Special powers and forces for different leaders. The boards and pieces are made from quality material and great colors. This game is a game of strategy and skill. It takes time and is great for spending time with loved ones and friends. I would recommend this for anyone with teens or anyone who enjoys a conquering it all! Great game! We love it!
It took 4 of us (two with Masters Degrees in the IT field) over 2 hours to get to the point of actually playing the game. The manual may have everything in there, but not organized in a way that you can find it. The UTube videos where essentially worthless, "Read P6 then go to P22 " just leaves you to go through the rest of the manual to actually start playing.. I've played the original version of Risk for many years, and the similarities are few and far between. Some other things to know, this consists of 15 game scenarios that you have to:1) Play in order2) Has you rip up cards as you play, basically meaning after the 15 scenarios, you can't start from the beginning again3) While Hasbro suggests how to play regular Risk with the playing pieces left, I could ... MoreIt took 4 of us (two with Masters Degrees in the IT field) over 2 hours to get to the point of actually playing the game. My family is really enjoying this Risk Shadow Forces game. This is the first legacy game that we've ever played so it was different that most of the type of games that we usually play. It took us a little bit to figure it all out but now that we are getting the hang of it we find it very fun and interesting. We really like that we there are different games that you play through. We really like the warlords as well. After we're done with this game, we are planning on checking out some other legacy games as well.
Let me first say I'm a gamer with hundreds of games and yet this is the first review/feedback I have ever given. Backdrop, I grew up loving Risk, and played Risk legacy four times with different groups. What a great game! So when I heard about a second Risk legacy game I immediately did the pre-order (almost a year ago) and got my copy a month ago (earlier than I thought!)When I got further information about Warlords and Skirmish rounds my excitement only increased. However, as I opened the game I was disappointed with less packages to open (including no hidden one underneath) than the prior Risk Legacy edition. But no big deal.Along with my three sons and another friend, we have played 4 games, two global games and two skirmishes. However, as I opened the game I was disappointed with less packages to open (including no hidden one underneath) than the prior Risk Legacy edition. But no big deal.Along with my three sons and another friend, we have played 4 games, two global games and two skirmishes. Initially, I thought "how cool is this, having multiple boards and an additional legacy approach with Warlords and Skirmishes." And though we are only 1/4 through the campaign, 3 out of the 4 games we played lasted only 15 minutes with one game where 2 of the players didn't even have a turn. No doubt some of that was bad decisions by some of the players, but some of that was based bad luck and dice rolling. With the one skirmish game two players could not open a door to have any chance to rescue a hostage because of poor rolls. With the one global game with the Rogue army, whether you call it bad or good luck, the Rogue army was established right beside another army, which led to the game wrapping up immediately since someone could win with defeating the rogue army. With both of these situations, I wish there was contingencies to avoid these bad luck situations. Hoping for a better outcome with our remaining games.
Love the concept. The game just doesn’t run well with 5 players. We didn’t have a single Global game where everyone got a second turn.Definitely a game that requires house rules, but… due to nature of the game, you have to buy a fresh copy in order to properly play it through with the house rules.Would recommend if you’re playing with 3 or 4 people, 5 players was a pretty frustrating experience.
Risk Shadow Forces is really different than other Risk games I've played in the past. It's a legacy style game where every game that's played changes the subsequent games. There are 2 modes to play. There is the global campaign mode (10 games worth) and the skirmish mode (5 games worth). It comes with 5 different warlords, 5 different colors of miniature figures, a main campaign board, 2 skirmish boards, stickers, cards and multiple sealed packages that will be revealed as you play the campaigne mission. There's a lot to the game play and the design of the boards and individual pieces are great!
