This Dead cat is authentic, and when bought from B&H Photo and Video, rest assured you are getting this item at the best price anywhere. This product works as intended and B&H Photo and video have an accurate website description. The dead cat fits like a glove and makes my audio sound way better. I bought this for my original Rode VideoMic.

I used this Rode Dead Cat at a very windy beach, 30 mph gusts, and it dramatically reduced the amount of noise in the audio. I will still do some post-production audio tuning to reduce the low-end rumbles, but without this furry sock the noise would have been unmanageable. Be advised: you need the Rode foam wind screen for this dead cat to wrap-around. I am a one-man crew on most of my jobs, so usually I attach my Rode NGT-2 shotgun mic to my camera's built-in mic mount (not the shoe mount). However when my camera is fully zoomed out (it has a 35mm-equivalent 28.5mm wide angle) some stray fur strands can be seen in the upper corner of the video frame. I gave it a four because the plastic fur is a little loose and can be pulled off. I'll have to be careful when handling it. But overall, it gets the job done for a good price.

firstly, one should know that this product does require that little foam windscreen that the ntg-1 and ntg-2 should come with. Maybe not for everyone, but it did for me. Next, I should say that it isn't perfect but its pretty good. Its a good price with decent quality so I would say that its cost effective. Not a lot that I would say is a problem really besides shedding, just one should acknowledge that it isn't perfect but for the price its very good.

This is a great wind dampening divide, however it's to be used with caution. I only say that because twice I've accidentally captured the hairs at the end of the dead cat, while attached to the foam-covered Rode NTG2 mic, in the frame while filming and not realized it until it was too late. If the mic is mounted too far forward on your camera, depending on which lens your using, you can get the hairs blowing around in your frame. This is especially the case with wide angle lenses. I'd recommend mounting the mic as far back as possible, making sure it's not in frame at your lenses' widest setting. Other than that, this serves it's purpose well! I do love Rode products, not hating, just a word of caution.
I don't like it, I LOVE it! I audio tested my microphone with and without it and when I for example would blow into my rode microphone without the deadcat, it picks up roaring noises, but when I blow into the microphone with the deadcat over it, it cancels the roar out. Anytime winter comes and I film outside when its snowy and windy, I will definitely use this deadcat for my microphone.
If you’re serious about your work like I am, you need this product. We all know the issue with filming outside with the wind blowing. Making it impossible to use the audio because the microphone picks it up and it sound unprofessional. It makes the film look bad and you to. A quick fix that will up your production value
Anyone who has shot outdoors knows about wind, even breezes. Even shooting indoors with the dead cat can help reduce ambient noise. This particular dead cat is paired wonderfully with the Rode mics which are listed. Bottom line, if you're going to use a Rode, boom mic get this product. Regardless of your choice of mics, find the proper cover for yours, too.
I am amazed at how well this dead cat works. It was a very windy day last week so I thought I would give this hairy thing a workout. I took my daughter to the park with gail force winds. I held up my camcorder to catch even more wind...I said to my self, no way will this thing work. I couldn't wait to play the video when I got home. Well...I had to eat my words. I could hear my daughter perfectly through the wind. Her voice was clear as a bell. I did hear a very small hiss but the auto was very good on this very windy day. I bought this because I have an out door wedding to video tape next week. I am no longer concerned about out door wind problems. Just one thing...you may have to cut just a small amount of hair off this dead cat, only because you may see some of ... MoreI am amazed at how well this dead cat works. Pros: Useful product. It actually does it's job. Cons: didn't include a bag to put it in. Warning: hair can separate from the dead cat and stick to other gear. I may look around for a different brand, or just get a new mic all together. But if I needed a replacement and there aren't any other options, I'd happily order this one again
I haven't had much experience with this product yet, but it seems to work well and I feel that it has given me good quality for a decent price. Be forewarned, it does have a tendency to shed. I use it with my Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone and it can leave hairs behind on my microphone cover. On a completely irrelevant but positive note, this makes my microphone look so cute and fluffy that I feel like I have a small woodland animal with me whenever I use it. No cats were harmed in the making of this product, which is always a plus. Also, If it ever loses its quality you can probably staple it to a hat and become Davy Crockett...either way your life will be better off for having purchased this fluffy fluffy windsock.
