Better Than An Internal Microphone!!

I changed my mind about this microphone and would recommend this product to someone looking for a microphone that will improve the recording of your audio for a decent price. It's not the most expensive microphone available, but it is accomplishing the task it was designed to do, at least for me. I do have the option of adjusting the volume on my camera, but have not found that to be necessary so far. Chatter and noise is not eliminated, which is not expected at a sporting event, but it seems to be less of a distraction than before because of the directional properties of the microphone. The unit comes with a convenient attachment for a camera hot shoe, along with the windscreen (not the best, but better than nothing) and a dual 3.5mm plug for connecting to the microphone and the input jack of my camera. There is also an optional USB-C port for connection to mobile devices or computer, but the cable is not supplied for that type of application. I registered this product online, and got the warranty extended to two years at no cost. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Easy to use, high quality, low cost mic.

The VideoMic GO II is very easy to use, the sound quality is excellent, and it is plug and play with both my Fujifilm X-T3 and my iPhone XR. I use it record my son's outdoor sporting events. The directional mic does not pick up my breathing like the built in mic on my camera, and it records better sound of the subjects in frame. The included windscreen is good, it reduces wind noise, however on very windy days you will need the optional dead cat windscreen. The Rode mic app for the iPhone records 24-bit wav which is good. This is a great general purpose starter mic at a good price.

This is the perfect device for entry level and run and gun audio recordings. The audio is better than a phone or your camera’s built in preamps, but I don’t recommend for professional’s/prosumers unless you can control the environment you’re in and also have a backup source of audio. Base on my personal experience, I bought the wrong mic for the job, but it definitely won’t go to waste. Additional details listed below. My gear rental was delayed, so I bought this mic last minute for a run and run rooftop promo video I was recording same day. Great for the price
4 March 2022

This is such a better mic than the Rode Micro and only costs $40 more. Although you have to get the dead cat as an add on or buy it after. It should come with it, its a must for outdoor recording. This microphone is super light, I almost thought it was fake. But B&H is a trusted company but if I had bought it from ebay or some other place I would think it was fake. The Rycote mount also seems to not be make by Rycote. It doesnt have there logo on the box like other Rode mics. It feels a bit different when I compare it to my NTG. It could just be me though, haven't really compared them closely. The mic has great sound for the size and price. If your looking at getting a Micro, spend the extra 50 bucks and get this.

Have the V1?? You need the V2!
26 January 2022

Ive had the V1 Rode VideoMic Go which i like and its so veratile as im upgrading my setup and rig im so glad i waited for this. The cable management helps, metal construction on the mic and the cold shoe mount, ability to slide the mic front or back on its on slider. Audio is better than the V1 video mic go. On your camera you can bring the the audio level down a few more notches, this mic picks up very well so you have more range to increase or decrease the gain. Doesnt pick up alot of background noise and feels more natural when talking no harsh cutoff when you start or stop talking. Works well for the audio i need. Best bang for the buck for audio quality.

Having both 3.5mm jack and USB-C jack is Key! No XLR needed
28 April 2022

This mic having both a 3.5mm jack and USB C jack is Key! I use the 3.5 when mounted on my camera cold shoe, with very short patch cord. But I use a long (33 foot) USB C cable when I put this mic on a boom and connect it to my computer. The USB C jack is a digital signal so immune to RF interference--dead quiet. A 33 foot analog 3.5mm cable would be way too noisy with RF hum. Running USB C right into computer is much easier to work with (and cheaper) than a full XLR setup (the usual way to keep the signal quiet).

Light weight and seemingly simple to setup.
20 November 2022

Light weight and seemingly simple to setup. However, I'm having very loud crackling sound using the TRS cable. Had to buy the Rode lightning to USB-C cable from them for $25 to see if it works better that way. Unfortunately, the cable is on back order from Rode and Best Buy doesn't carry it. So, I'm stuck waiting unable to use the mic.

Not great in loud environments
14 March 2022

I wanted to love this mic. While filming live bands or loud cheers, or loud music, the audio distorts and clips my camera input. Maybe it doesn't do this with all cameras (I am using a GH5) I've turned my in camera audio levels all the way down to -12 (lowest setting) and still get clipping with loud sources. It's shame, because in general, the mic sounds great and I love the form factor, price, and that it's powered by the camera. I will be moving back to the more expensive Rode Video Mic NTG and hope the sound issues go away. I used to use the old Rode Video mic pro with no clipping issues.

Versatile and Budget Friendly

I primarily use it as a mic for my PC, so I don't have to wear a headset. But I also needed it mounted just over 2 feet away, 80 degrees to my right, and for it to minimize picking up sound from my speakers. So far I'd say it works quite well. My voice comes through clear at normal speaking volume, while picking up the tiniest bit of background noise from my speakers. Game audio is very distant sounding, and not intrusive in the mix. The audio is clear and my voice is the focal point of the playback. I haven't tried yet, but I bet I can tune the mic with the RODE software to help even more with the background noise. I tested video recording and the audio is much more directional than the normal mic, focusing the audio input where the lens is pointing, of course. My use case is amateur and weird, but overall very happy with the performance of this $99 mic.

a HUGE upgrade from my DSLR built-in microphone
3 November 2022

So I'e been really hesitant form using my built-in microphone for my Canon DSLR paired with the sigma 18-35. The sigma 18-35 is, by far, the best lens ever for crop sensor cameras but the autofocus is annoying when recording video and audio. I picked up this mic, not only to separate the audio and place it away from the lens but it gives my voice more clarity, deep rich sound, and the small size make the quality feel underrated. The audio quality is amazing, PERIOD. of course, the closer you are, the better the sound, monitor your audio levels, and this microphone will take you far.
