Does what it says on the tin. I got this for my NTG4 and fits perfectly. Great foam core with a nice wooly outer shield. Does a great job.

A must have for Outdoor Recs

This is a great tool to reduce wind noise from being picked up by the microphone. The difference is night and day, if you are going to use it for outdoors. I would still recommend using a blimp for winds that are higher than 5mph and the recorded information is more critical. Why is this? The blimp with a deadcat COMPLETELY isolates the microphone, isolating the entire airspace not just the pickup area. Having the internal mesh is nice because it’s self isolating, not requiring you to have a foam already on. I use this with an NTG4 and it is a must have. Having said that this is a great and inexpensive tool to use for most scenarios that are outdoors. Mission critical, paid work outdoors, get the Blimp w/deadcat.

Better than foam!

It keeps the wind out of recordings. Slides perfectly onto the Rode NTG-2. It is expensive but it really makes a difference in the quality of your recordings. It does a much better job compared to the standard foam windscreen which hardly does anything with winds over 3 MPH. BEWARE: It does have a big outer diameter. I use it mounted in a Sony EX1 and with the camera zoomed out it captures the dead-cat on the top right. After a few times taking it on and off the rubber end fell off. Just added a little more glue and have not have trouble with it. While it is not a blimp, this does a far better job than not having anything or using the foam one!

Mixed Feelings
23 May 2019

I saw all of these great reviews and I bought the windshield thinking it would CUT wind noise, but it did not at all cut wind noise like I thought it would. I dont think I could be using it wrong. I tried sliding the shield forward slightly and all of this stopped nothing. I was in very light wind conditions and it did not help as much as I had hoped. It destroyed most of my audio. I was glad that I was able to cover most of the noise up with the music under the video. Disappointed because I really wanted this option to work. I used it on a Rode NTG4+.

Not for stronger winds
10 April 2019

I was hopeful when I saw several folks like this. Today was a windy day, perhaps gusts to 35mph. Figured it would be a reasonable test. Certainly not useful in gusty conditions as these. For a light, breezy day, probably fine. Hard to say where the line is drawn for this wind shield.

One time use but good so far
7 July 2020

Just used it once on a slight breeze outdoor shoot. Conducted interviews indoors with it on as well (just forgot to remove. Outdoors seems like audio was good thru the ntg 2 and indoors having it on didnt seem to muffle the sound although normally I would probably remove for indoor use.

Reduces wind noise a bit
4 December 2020

Service from B&H was excellent but the windscreen does a mediocre job at cutting off wind noise on my ntg4It blocks all noise in light breeze, but in medium breeze you still get the noise but at a somewhat controlled level. For a windy day tou will need a blimp for sure.

The only kind of dead cat you ever want to hug.

This windshield is perfect for use on the Rode NTG-2. The inner foam provides a satisfyingly snug fit around the barrel of the microphone and the silicone rubber collar tightly encapsulates the open end, holding it quietly and firmly in place with no movement. The overall quality in build, form and functional far exceeds that of equally priced eBay knockoffs.A big thanks to DJ City! I ordered this at 3 p.m on a Friday afternoon and by lunchtime the following Monday, it had shipped interstate and was awaiting pickup at my local Post Office.

Too Long to work properly with NTG4 on a SM4-R Mount
12 November 2022

I bought this item to use with and NTG4 on a SM4-R shock mount.... and as far as wind noise reduction goes, it is great. However, it is simply too long to work well in this configuration. The problem is that the NTG4 is short, so to make the windscreen fit, you have to move the SM4-R Lyres to the center position which then droops and bumps the mount base. The work around is to shorten the WS6 by two inches by removing the end cap, cutting the windscreen, and regluing the end cap. Then you can set the mount's Lyres to the wider position. This works very well.... but is a pain in the backside. A better solution would be to use a shorter windshield.NOTE: on the NTG4+ this is not a problem, nor is it an issue when using the NTG4's supplied mic-clip.... it's only a ... MoreI bought this item to use with and NTG4 on a SM4-R shock mount.... and as far as wind noise reduction goes, it is great. Unbeatable at This Price
3 August 2012

I worked for years in broadcast TV, and various forms of video production. For the price, this unit cannot be beat. It blocks out noise in all but the most windy conditions, and it's super easy to use. I should note that I've used many other units, and once tried a test on a blustery mountain pass. I used the NTG2 microphone bare (horrible results), The NTG2 with the foam windscreen (almost as horrible results), with the Rode Dead Cat over the foam (better results, not good for gusts) and this unit, which was a big step up. It blocked out all but the highest gusts. If you need a foolproof system, go to a full zeppelin system and don't look back. But if you're on a budget and need something that just works in nearly all conditions, this will do the trick. The one con I have is that it's not the most durable unit, but with good care it will last you quite a while.
