Rokinon AF 14/2.8 FE is specifically designed to work in harmony with full frame mirrorless cameras in Sony E mount. The flow of light is devised based on the uniqueness of the distance from glass to sensor in mirrorless cameras to create optimal performance. Along with portability of mirrorless lenses, the 14mm F2.8 is compatible with full frame sensors to deliver the wideness and sharpness of image to photographers. The 14mm F2.8 is the widest angle available in the market in its class, broadening the sight of photographers to capture the world. Based on Rokinon Optics' exceptional optical technology, Ultra Multi Coating and three aspherical lenses have been included among 14 glasses in 10 groups to minimise aberration and unnecessary light dispersion, delivering high resolution from the centre to the corners of the image. This new product will be one of the first autofocus lenses in over 40 years of Rokinon's class-leading core optics technologies. Rokinon has captured the essence of world leading image technology with their manual focus lenses and reinterpreted it into autofocus lenses. Photographers now can enjoy the prime manual lens image quality and autofocus lens. Rokinon AF 14/2.8 FE is compatible with both phase detect and contrast detect sensors to operate fast and accurate focus detection. The 86mm of maximum diameter is also the result of years of RandD for best handling, by adding stability. Also the minimal and sleek design and metal-housing solidify the build quality with the internal focus system.

The 50mm lens fogged up at one point, but I suppose thats because the seal between the A7iii and the lens isnt completely air tight, and I did occasionally walk from air conditioning into muggy, 90 degree air. in any case, the lenses survived the tough conditions and performed admirably for the most part. It was the overheating camera that caused me my greatest consternation.Since then I have used the lenses to shoot some footage for a parody web series in brisk Provo, Utah, another humanitarian excursion in cold and wet Adana, Turkey, and a training session for sumo wrestlers in Carson, California. The footage has been pleasing, and I very much like the F1.4 aperture on the 35mm and 50mm. I have shot wide open a great deal, and most of the time I have been able to get the thing I wanted in focus. My biggest problem has been with both the 50mm and the 14mm lens. Sometimes I will point them at just anything and they wont focus. They wont focus on anything. The A7iii is set to Continuous AF, but the lenses just stare at the world and do nothing.I had this problem on a completely clear day, with high contrast subjects in front of me (people wearing dark clothing in front of light-colored tents or a white van, for example), and indoors in the well-lit sumo wrestling gym. I have found that the 35mm lens always snaps to focus quickly, so in all instances where the other two lenses have failed, I have eventually switched back to the 35mm so as to be able to keep shooting.I wonder if there is something I dont know about coaxing those lenses into focusing. I have tried restarting the camera or switching to manual and then back to constant, but to no avail. I have even tried switching from video to photograph mode and switch to Single-shot AF. I have never had a problem with these lenses shooting stills in Single-shot AF. However, if the Continuous AF has stopped functioning and I switch to stills and Single-shot AF then back to video and Continuous, Continuous still doesnt work. Changing to the 35mm lens has been the only solution. So overall, these lenses produce pretty pictures for less money than native Sony glass, and the focus works most of the time. When it doesnt work, though, it doesnt work even a little bit.If there is anyone at Rokinon who can explain to me something that I can do to jog the 50mm and 14mm lens back into proper autofocus function when the stop working, I would love to hear it.

I really wanted this to work as a lightweight alternative, but it won't work for my needs (making large prints with good detail). If you are photographing things that fill the center up close and letting the background go naturally out of focus, then it would be fine. Thankfully BH has a no hassle return policy, as I sent it back today after two days of testing.

Great for Night Photography
22 September 2021

I shopped around and researched for months for a wide angle full frame lens. I love astrophotography and haven't been able to fully dive into it without a wide angle lens. I decided on this one because it was within my budget, had great reviews, and could deliver what I was trying to achieve. I've had it for about a month or so now, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's quiet, fast, and very sharp. The first night I went out after getting this lens, I was literally SQUEALING with happiness because I couldn't believe what this lens was allowing me to do!! I'm so excited to keep learning and using this to get the shots I want

I bought this primarily to cover dancing at wedding receptions and maybe some creative environmental portraits of couples. For me it was worth the sub $700 cost compared to the Canon at significantly more. It's sharp enough for the purpose I wanted it for. Like any really wide lens, there's a ton of stretch at the corners. Sometimes that's even helpful but you have to be careful. You need to be REALLY close to make good use of this lens. In the dirt bike photo below, the lens was probably less than 2 feet from her left hand. In the couples' photo, I think I was about 6 feet from them. This lens has let me add a new look to the variety of images I can deliver and I'm very happy with this purchase. Really very good
31 August 2022

At first I was a little concerned that it wasn't sharp enough. But I kept with it, and learned its peculiarities. So after a few days I started to get really sharp images. I'm not sure why...I would have thought that the wider the lens the easier to get sharp images...but there you go. I just used it for a pro photoshoot (even coverage), and the images came out very nice. There are still moments when I feel that I'm getting dull images..the lens doesn't give me that "magic" feel. But it's also not an expensive wide angle. So it does what I need it to. Maybe some day I'll spring for an expensive wide angle.

Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 Lens (Nikon F) on Nikon Z 7II with FTZ
19 August 2021

This review is for the Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F attached to an FTZ adapter on a Nikon Z 7II camera. The auto focus worked well when I tested it and I used manual focus for my landscape and Milky Way photography. Attached are the two Milky Way photos that I took recently using f/2.8, ISO 6400 and 25 sec exposure with a tripod (no star tracker). Both photos were post processed the same way to bring out colors, shadow, highlight, etc. without other editing. Overall, I am happy with the Rokinon AF 14mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon F on the Nikon Z 7II with the FTZ adapter for landscape and Milky Way photography.

Rokinon is cheap for a reason. Routinely the softest lens
29 August 2019

I don't like this lens at all. I have found my Rokinon lenses to not be sharp, and the distortion of this lens screws up a lot of shots. Maybe I should stick with 16 instead of 14, but I needed some wider angle stuff, and this lens was NOT the answer to my solution. It is extremely soft and ruined some shots because it was a lot softer than what I could tell thru the LCD screen. I don't see a good reason to recommend this lens, maybe for real estate or pictures, but not video of any kind.In my pictures, the LCD viewfinder showed her in red, meaning in focus while in manual. I can't use this. I wish I wouldn't have relied on breaking in the new lens for money shots like this. When in autofocus, it is constantly focus hunting and ruins the video shot. The second ... MoreI don't like this lens at all. That is why I left it a 2 star. But this is officially out of my camera bag.

SHARP, VERY SHARP but problems.

Bought this lens at the new incredible price...and had high hopes. Build quality is excellent....fast focus and decent weight ratio.Took it out to shoot a variety of locations and that is when problems were obvious.NIKON mount and put it on the D750. FIRST PROBLEM: in any setting other than APERATURE priority exposures were all over the map, but mostly 2-3 stops overexposed. SHUTTER PRIORITY was a disaster: 3-5 stops overexposed. Also- first shot would always make the blades within the lens close/open/close/open with an audible click.Bottom line: THIRD frame would be dead on for exposure, optics were sharp as a tack, build quality was excellent but the lens was completely unreliable except at aperature setting on the camera. Even then, the aperature blades would ... MoreBought this lens at the new incredible price...and had high hopes. Typically I don't review the many things I've bought from B&H, believing that so many folks buy the same things that my nickel's worth wouldn't be that useful. However, this lens is likely not quite so common. I initially bought a cheaper 14 mm f 2.8 and found it badly wanting in sharpness. B&H allowed me to return it and issued a prompt refund { one big Atta Boy, B&H }.I bought this Rokinon and am very glad I did - it is incredibly sharp, has a good build and feel - AND has a well-functioning Auto Focus - seldom seen in other lenses with these specs. When I first opened the box I put it on my Canon 5D Mk IV, aimed far down the street to take some sample, random photos, and every feature on every house far down the block came in crystal clear and sharp. I'm a 'happy guy'.Nice lens, for sure.
