I've own many Samyang and Rokinons, but this will be another that I return. All these Rokinon lenses (with the exception of the 135mm) suffer from terrible purple fringing in high contrast situations (especially a subject against a bright sky). No lens is perfect, but the fringing is really bad and I had zebras set to keep the sky under 100. If you love shooting subjects backlit, then you will have problems with this lens. Under the majority of other shooting situations, the lens is solid with great focus throw and obviously good low-light ability, but it doesn't outperform my Sigma 24-70 ... which it SHOULD since it's a prime. I was really hoping this lens would blow me away with its sharpness like the only other two Samyang/ Rokinon lenses that I kept: the 50mm ... MoreI've own many Samyang and Rokinons, but this will be another that I return. No fringing) ... but it didn't. Without comparing it to other lenses, this receives a 3-star rating, but knowing what we should expect out of a 24 mm Prime, it really shouldn't get more than a 2-star rating.

Before purchasing, I had used these lenses on the A7s II and loved them. The images were sharp and beautiful. However, they are very obviously not meant for the micro 4/3 sensor. This lens is unusable when opened up to t1.5, which is incredibly annoying since that was one of the main reasons I bought it. I can't get a sharp image until I stop down to around 2.8. If you really want these lenses for your GH4 or 5, I can only recommend buying the EF versions and adapting them. Something clearly went wrong when transferring the lens to Micro Four Thirds. I really wish someone had told me this before I bought them.

I've been shooting with this on my Gh4. I'm doing short, creative documentary film projects so mostly I have (some) time to plan out shots - mostly. I love manual focus and manual aperture. My work's not run and gun usually and I don't think I'd love this lens so well if that's the kind of work I was doing. I love the detail of these Rokinon primes - I also bought the 35mm and 85mm. On the Metabones Speedbooster (Nikon to M4/3) the 24mm is about 22mm and super fast. Also, these are nice size lenses. I expected this so I'm fine with it but many people use the Gh4 because of its small size. There are much smaller lenses out there. It's not a Canon cine but it's also 1/20th the price.

I purchased this to replace Nikon manual primes for my SONY PXW-FS7. The Xeen outperformed all the best Nikon lenses. The XEEN 24mm is really only useful between T2.1 and T11. The Xeen blooms and halos at T-stops below T2 and is soft above T11. Solid construction and very smooth focus and iris. The lens has a slight green tinge to it (most glass has some sort of color shift.) The XEEN is not a Cooke, Leitz, or Cannon Prime but as long as you are a proficient grader, I doubt anyone would even see the difference. I recommend the Tilta MB05 matte box.
There's a lot of awesomeness packed into this lens. Before I bought it, I read numerous reviews by pro and fellow hobby videographers. It was a mixed bag and I was on the fence for a while about buying this lens. I'm extremely happy that I did. The first thing I noticed was how smooth the aperture and focus rings were. I had no problems changing aperture and focus on the fly and it was extremely nice to finally be able to have full manual control, which is another plus. The wide angle is also extremely nice, making sure that nothing is out of the shot. The picture is a tiny bit soft when the lens is wide open, which i rarely use, and only a pro or a guru of sharpness and detail will notice this. It still looks great. The colors are nice and rich and it's most ... MoreThere's a lot of awesomeness packed into this lens. Before I bought it, I read numerous reviews by pro and fellow hobby videographers. The colors are nice and rich and it's most certainly worth the money if you're a video enthusiast on a budget. It probably won't leave my camera for a long time. Indie filmmakers and video shooters... this is a good, if not one of the best options for you right now, especially if you're broke like I am. I can't recommend it enough. The only gripe is that the lens hood is way too loose and can easily fall off. Not a big deal, really. If you're thinking about getting this lens, don't think about it too much and just buy it. You won't be disappointed.
Can't beat the cost for quality when it comes to the image these lenses capture. I am using them on a Sony FS700, so I went with the E-mount style lenses. They sit tight and the matching rings make swapping extremely quick. I did notice the focus ring on the 85 floating on me, making it difficult to execute a proper focus pull. Had to pull on the fly, causing some extra takes while I dialed it in by feel. Over all, a good set of lenses that are going to be seeing a lot of use in the near future.
I’m a beginner and I’ve been doing a lot of food photography and I’m learning by watching a tons of YouTube video. I was hoping that your website will give more example of the photo or video that has been shot by the lens or camera and also provide tips. The Cine DSX is not compatible my camera and I need to go to setting to disabled the lens. Took me a while to find that information on the internet. I wish there an expert forum or something. Thank you
Right off the bat: these lenses are great. I'm a huge fan of their build quality, the matching gears for my follow focus so they can easily be swapped and their matching speeds. Plus they're de-clicked so adjustments can be made mid-shot without jostling the camera or adding unwanted noise. I may be different than most, but I currently do a lot of run and gun video shooting with these Cine lenses. The cinematic look doesn't have to be limited to studio production - and how the T-stops and gears match make it faster and easier to swap these out in a hurry. They are substantial in size, which I actually like. A little too front heavy and/or long for my steadicam set up to balance properly, but they are actually fairly lightweight overall. They are substantial in size, which I actually like. A little too front heavy and/or long for my steadicam set up to balance properly, but they are actually fairly lightweight overall. They're nice for handheld shots because you've got plenty of real estate to hold on to. Of course we're talking no OIS so that can be really helpful. It's all manual so chances are you'll need a hand on the lens at all times anyway. Paired with my Edelkrone PocketRig and FocusOne these lenses are rock solid and feel unstoppable. It's a nice range from 24-85mm in this kit (keep in mind those numbers don't account for MFT - so it's more like ~50-170 in practical terms). You won't be getting super wide in that range, but you've got a beautiful set from portrait lens up. I haven't found myself wishing I had anything else in my kit since I bought these. These lenses do have a propensity for lens flare, which some might consider a con. I personally don't. The included lens hoods help, but keep an eye out for unwanted light coming in from the sides. The only trouble I had with that was during an in-studio product shoot mixing light kits with large floor to ceiling windows. The client thought the light bleeding in softened the edges. Solved with a bit of light adjustments and a piece of gaffer added to the lens hood. This purchase was a major upgrade for me - moving from adapting Nikon lenses to fit my MFT cameras - and I couldn't be happier. For a reasonable investment the Rokinon Cine DS kit took my production value to the next level.
I own a production company and I must say these lenses have really boosted the quality of our work tremendously. The focus pulling is smooth and adjusting aperture is nice and fluid. I would recommend you by a case for the lenses because they can be quite fragile. Works very well with low light and a great kit overall if you are looking to upgrade quality of your look. Highly recommend the buy if your budget allows you.
Okay, it's a set, but truly it's just four lenses in individual boxes. The 35mm is the largest, and looks impressive on my FS7, but how do they all perform? Well, I took a $ Gropenheimer flexor transmission meter, coupled that with a Cryzenko L681C for measuring refraction paraflex, chromatic aberations, and distortion....just kidding, I made all that up. I just put the lenses on the camera one at a time. Shot video in HD and 4K to a Shogun. I did it inside, outside, in good light and low light, and then I used my favorite test equipment, my eyes...and I'm happy. The lenses are extremely fast with good detail and color. The rings are smooth and the lenses feel solid though I can tell there is more plastic in the parts than my other lenses which were more expensive. ... MoreOkay, it's a set, but truly it's just four lenses in individual boxes. For the price of this bundle, you essentially pay for three and get the 85mm for free. I like that the DS line have identical ring placements for easy swapping without readjusting the follow focus. I am considering returning them, but only to get the cannon mount version, as I have an adaptor and native E glass may limit my future camera purchases. I will say that it's nice not to have to mess with an adapter with the native glass. I'm on the fence in this regard, but I like the lenses. You are not going to find this many cine lenses for this price and quality anywhere else at this time. I am waiting for Rokinon to make a high quality manual zoom...Zeiss who?
