Roland FP-30X Black Digital Piano
When you've got a great instrument you don't re-invent it, you improve on it and Roland has done that with the FP-30. They've improved the sound engine, increased the polyphony and increased the power of the onboard speakers. Forget the lightweight keyboards on typical mid-price portable pianos—with a single key strike on the PHA-4 Standard keyboard, you’ll instantly know the FP-30X stands above the rest. With 88 full-size keys, this piano allows for a complete range of expression as your technique and composition skills grow. And with hammer action, escapement, and ivory feel, you’ll enjoy the same touch beneath your fingers as a great acoustic instrument, right down to the subtle “click” feel as you depress a key. Behind the authentic feel and playability is Roland’s powerful SuperNATURAL sound engine, picking up all the nuances of experienced pianists and helping newer players develop more character and dynamics. The FP-30X keeps you focused on long-term learning with advanced connectivity. Use Bluetooth audio and your iOS or Android device to stream music through the piano speakers or headphones, play along with favorite artists, and sharpen up your skills by following online piano lessons. Take things further and use Bluetooth MIDI to connect to music composition apps like Roland’s Zenbeats or Apple’s GarageBand. And for a regimen that stays fresh, hook up to Roland’s Piano Every Day app to automatically record and playback your daily practice activities using the piano tone of your choice. The FP-30X even features USB audio/MIDI connectivity, allowing you to interface with computers and record tracks in professional music production software.

I would actually give this 4.5 stars if I could. I bought this piano because I needed something portable that would fit in a tiny space where an acoustic wouldn't fit. Great keyboard with responsive dynamics that mimics a grand. The additional voices are a plus too. Harpsichord, various pianos, electric piano, organ, etc. However, the controls for volume, voices, metrenome, are all buttons which makes selection of these more complicated than they needed to be. I suspect this was designed for aesthetics, but a nob for volume and a small led screen for the voices would have been nice. If you are not going to do performances to formal audiences, this isn't much of a problem. As for the rest of the kit, all good quality, sturdy stuff. Overall, I'm very happy with my ... When I started learning how to play at 9, I had this antique Kohler & Campbell upright piano. It was old enough to have ivory keys and that beast was simply too heavy to take with me when I moved out. I'd left it in my parents house and decided to buy a keyboard instead. The problem was I was used to that beautiful old piano and needed something that had a similar feel to the keys. Something that my teacher's grand piano and every keyboard I'd previously encountered lacked. The texture of the keys and sensitivity was what attracted me to other Roland models but this one sounds simply amazing, especially for the price. Though it's not a traditional acoustic piano, the FP-30X, with the easy to assemble stand and pedals, is a perfect fit into my life.

As a lifelong, professional, lifelong piano player, I needed a portable digital piano that felt great to play, plus sounded authentic. Bonuses include a variety of piano sounds, manageable reverb settings, touch settings and some other keyboard / synth /General midi sounds. The unit is less than 30 lbs and very portable. it fits in a 76-key keyboard case. This unit plays great, feels great and sounds great. The only drawback is that the felts inside will break after a while, and it's a bit of a costly repair. Be sure to get the extended warranty!I started livestreaming when things locked down in March 2020, and the felts took about 20-24 months to breach and that was the ONLY problem I've ever had with this unit.

This was a bundle that included the digital piano, X-stand, sustain pedal, and bench. Piano was delivered a day early. Other items were several days late, but that was a problem with FedEx and the weather. FedEx also badly mangled the X-stand box, but luckily no serious damage. Piano is exactly what I'd hoped. Good sound and good feel. The X-stand doesn't fit either me when I'm sitting, and the rubber bumpers don't get to the right position for the keyboard. In the future I'll probably get a wooden stand for the piano. Sustain pedal doesn't stay in place, but that's to be expected.
I waited a month for the white version of this keyboard to ship and it was well worth the wait. This looks really slick in my studio and the features are incredible for the price. I went with this keyboard over the competitors because of the I/O ports (I sometimes connect this to my desktop for Ableton sessions via MIDI) and the key action. It honestly feels better than my 20 year old Yamaha Clavinova DP, which is what I learned on. But as far as the negatives go, I do not like the non-labeled sounds (you have to use the app or hold the shift key/press a note on the keyboard to hear a different sound). And I am not a fan of the bounce back. It feels a little sluggish and not what I am used to. I hope overtime I get used to it, but this is something worth noting.
Probably one of the best entry-level digital piano under $1,000. Sounds beautiful with 2 headphone jacks and USB to connect to a laptop. Powerful speakers and a nice keybed makes it more attractive. The only downside is it's not compatible with RPU-3 triple padel. The three-pedal addon works with this is KPD-70, but that has a bigger footprint and only works with a desktop-like stand.
Ordered the keyboard with the stand and three-pedal assembly on a Wednesday afternoon. It arrived the following day, less than 24 hours later! Cannot fault PMT's service. The stand, pedals and keyboard are very easy and quick to assemble (no2 Phillips needed), and seem very sturdy, even on a soft carpet.I could not be more thrilled with this keyboard. The quality of sound in reproducing classic pianos is second to none in this price bracket, and the keyboard action is impressively like a real piano. As others have observed in reviews, the tone selection via the minimalist keyboard does require reference to the manual, but using the Roland's Piano Every Day phone app makes this simple and straightforward. I really am very happy with this digital piano. It does everything it says on the box. You plug it in and play it. It sounds really lovely, I am no sound expert but it is definitely as good as the reviews. I am enjoying playing it and the musicality of its expressiveness. The weighted action of the keys and the feel of them under your finger tips are like velvet. I have no interest in downloading the Roland apps as I only wanted a piano I could play without the hassle of the internet! Call me old fashioned, that's fine by me. The volume control and other light pushes of buttons to alter the type of piano sound and a few other benefits for those who want to play with a teacher is great. The need for electricity is about as complicated as I wanted it to get. Worth ... MoreI really am very happy with this digital piano. It does everything it says on the box. This is a truly excellent piano with a great action and a great sound. If you're looking for something to learn-on or play without the cost and headaches of an acoustic, this is definitely a top recommendation. The weighted keys feel absolutely solid and are better than many acoustic pianos I've played. You'll get realistic dynamics and reactions to the way you strike the keys, as well. In the meantime, the rest of the bundle gives you everything you need to set up a dedicated play/practice while also making it easy to move at any time. The headphone and stereo outputs also give a lot of versatility. This is a fantastic setup for piano players at a great price!
Very pleased with this purchase, the key action is lovely and a real pleasure to play. The downward facing speakers result in a slightly muffled sound (to my ears - only a minor gripe), but sounds fantastic through headphones and I imagine will be great through external PA/speakers too.Shame there is no display and nearly all functions have to be selected through a combination of button and key presses, but knew about this beforehand and is a worthwhile compromise when balancing budget with the quality of the actual playing experience.Being able to play audio from a bluetooth device through the FX-30X is handy, especially if you want to use headphones.More sounds accessible via the Roland app (although these are mainly standard GM voices that aren't such good ...
