Very powerful and compact synth. It is seriously good sounding and very playable. Having 4 full polysynths and a rhythm track with substep /probability and 64 step sequencing makes for a ton of fun. Excellent value for money and a battle ready piece of kit

Not only does it have a classic ROLAND sounds, but also is four part multi timbral and has a great built in sequencer per instrument. Drum machine part is good. Battery powered for on the go production is also very nice.

Sounds great fun to use Compaq. There is a learning curve though beware but once you've climbed over it, it's a great bargain.

I have A Roland A500 Pro MIDI Controller Keyboard which I can now connect to the Roland SH-4d Digital Desktop Synthesizer and use the sound module to play my keyboard without running it thru my computer. Although I liked the sound library which was in my computer, Roland SH-4d has a variety of sounds which can be edited, I'm still figuring these out. In addition to the sound module, the sequencer is great for creating new sounds and rhythms. I'm very impressed with this device and kudos to Roland for providing this at a reasonable price.
Such a shame that this synth has the same issues the XM had, difficult to use in terms of set up with 5 parts on separate MIDI channels. Not knowing if you are editing times, sounds or parts? Losing changes as saving elements is complicated at best. Pros: great sounds and once figured out how to save a tone ( and remember how to do it) ok as a single tone device. Haven’t worked out how to use all five parts in Ableton live yet!
Still finding my way round it, but there's not a bad tone in it, and the flexibility is amazing. Not fully Zen Core compatible, but it has enough to keep you interested for hours. At one point my missus thought I had gone out I was so engrossed in this thing! Cheaper than a Jupiter Xm, just as much fun.
This 4 part multitimbral synth design is well laid out and easy to get to work on. The 4 seq tracks and drum track makes it a bit of a groove box. The sliders can mix the audio or synth parameters, so great for live jams. Knobs feel solid. Sounds really good to me.
After years of garish designs... The SH is a breath of fresh air.Eminently useable knobs, and lots of them. The menus don't get too deep, and most functionality is a click or two away. There's an interesting breadth of sounds available from the various oscillator models. It's a complete blast to whip together quick ideas... Though the current OS doesn't give a song mode or pattern transpose capability.Fantastic bang for the buck, sounds great. Maybe a bit of a niche taste... But suits me perfectly.
I was worried that the preset drum and synth sounds inside the unit would just be the exact same that i have in other Roland products! I am pleased with the fact the majority of the presets sound fresh and different than all my other instruments! Lots of retro synth-pop minimal, electro and Even Industrial tones can be found or created in the SH-4d. The effects are real good, and the many dials can really change a preset into something brand new. I am pleased with my purchase!
