The lead indicator isn't loose, but it moves easily enough that I don't trust it to stay where I set it. It works well and the integrated sharpener is a welcome addition. As a bonus, the color scheme is a little sleeker than the blue and silver found on many leadholders from other companies.The grade indicator was a nice thought, but in the end not useful for me. I carry the leadholder daily in a pencil case with an assortment of pens and markers, so it gets jostled around too much to stay in the correct place.

This is my first lead holder, so I do not have an expansive knowledge of them, but I can say it's wonderful. Even though it has a plastic body there is some good weight to it. I use it all the time (and I am not a pencil guy, typically), it is quite nice. The reason I picked this one in particular is the lead indicator and I'm pleased with my purchase. The attached sharpener works pretty well, but I ordered an external one because I needed more sharpness. Good deal here from JetPens.
The description made it sound as if the lead advances incrementally. It doesn't. It is like any other lead holder that either grips the lead or lets it drop.
It was in small print, but I saw the sticker says it is made in Japan, which I understand is where Rotring are made, and it looks and feels very nice and is reminiscent of other Rotriing pencils I have had.
The old metal Rotring had a solid heft to it. The new Rotring looks absolutely identical, and w exactly as the old version, but is now made of lightweight plastic.
If it is genuine, very nice. Looks like real Rotring. I know the brand it is top of the range.
any thing Rotring is good, this one is no exception, glad I purchased it , will buy more of the 600 version in future.
