My "super senior" cat with kidney disease loves this one! We've had to buy a dinner plate just for him for this food though, as the pieces are quite small and gulpable.. Spreading the food out has slowed the eating down and made him chew as he goes. Everyone wins! Thought I'd share our experience in case anyone else has encountered the same, as I did initially fear the regurgitation was illness related or a bad reaction.

I have given my lovely cat the 'Renal Select' alongside the other choices in the Royal Canin feline Renal diet - I add a little water and give him his medicine in the Renal 'with chicken' pouches and then I ad-lib feed him the three dry diets. I understand that they're not going to be as palatable as his previous 'ordinary' food and I cannot specifically comment on 'Select' other than to say it's chosen by my cat as often as the other two (the original 'Renal' and the 'Renal Special') and I feel that it gives him some variety. What I can say is that the Royal Canin feline renal diet and the prescribed drug 'Semintra' have, thankfully, really improved my 9 year-old cat's creatine and urea levels - and he's gained a little weight! On the advice of my vet, I will be sticking with this diet.

My 18 years old male cat has been on a combination of wet and dry renal royal canin food for two and a half years. He prefers wet food, but eats biscuits as well. I believe he had acute kidney disease caused by dehydration while he had a stroke. Before we started he was constantly thirsty and running for a wee that much one could see he is tired of it. With renal diet his thirst reduced and now is at 2-3 on scale where 0 is normal and 10 is him with his thirst at worst. It was a slow process, it took around a year to reverse. I noticed if I feed him non prescription diet for two or more days i a row, his condition worsens and thirst increases. So I am convinced that this diet extended his life for two years and counting... Review of Royal Canin Renal Veterinary Health Nutrition Cat Food-Wet Chicken 48 x 85g pouches
28 December 2020

My cat suffers from renal failure and vet suggested putting him to sleep as recovery chance was very low. We switched to renal diet and cat really likes both wet and dry chicken flavoured food. He improved a lot but need to be strictly on this diet as even small amount of cooked chiken or regular food makes him unwell. Proves this renal diet works.

Review of Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal Feline Select
20 October 2022

My cat has just been diagnosed with renal dysfunction hence the need for a special diet. Dry food is the main part of his diet and fortunately he loves this brand, however he is losing his teeth and does find the kibbles too large. Could they be made smaller for older cats?

Royal Canin Renal biscuits

My cat is on a special renal diet and I have used another specialist brand before trying Royal Canin for a change. Safe to say my cat seems a lot happier with this brand and seems to love them.Oh and the lollies I get when I order are the best so it’s a win win :)

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Renal dry

*This is the same review I gave for the tinned Renal food by Royal Canine. Our HK mongrel was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease a year ago and had been given Hills K/D dry and wet food. She never liked it but it was the only food her former vet knew to give (via the SPCA) but we persevered until we found this food through our new vet. Needless to say it has been a game changer. She eats up well and we can put her dietary supplements in her food without any fuss. We are forever grateful to have been steered to this line by Royal Canine!

Tiny biscuits a winner
2 February 2022

The cat really likes these. He's missing a few teeth so the small size of these biscuits compared to other brands of kidney food is a winner. He prefers an all-you-can-eat buffet of wet and dry food, and since he started on rehmannia to help his kidneys, he's even able to eat some 'normal' food too.

grateful for this product
3 July 2022

My 16 year old elderly cat has significant kidney issues with only one functioning kidney (that is struggling to work) and was placed on the Royal Canin Prescription Renal products. She is a fussy eater but absolutely loves this dry food and it helping prolong her life. I nearly lost her due to an acute kidney infection that caused renal failure 5 months ago, but with specialist veterinary treatment and her new diet, she is thriving!
