This put the rear handle too far forward to be effective for either helping him get up or offloading his rear end so that he could go farther on walks. I returned it to Moosejaw, no problems. For those looking for a mobility aid harness, I'd suggest looking at the "Help em Up" (the one I ultimately bought) and "Walkabout" harnesses, which are specifically design as mobility aids, are more adjustable and have quick release buckles that make getting the on and off very fast and easy.

I needed an every day use harness with snaps and leash attach point that has leg straps to keep the harness in place and give support for my front leg amputee dog. I’ve tried the webmaster too (which I love for my other dogs, but it rolls all over her because she has no shoulder). I ended up going to a help em up harness for her. All my other dogs use the ruffwear webmaster. Again, this is a hood quality harness just didn’t work for what I needed.

Hands down, this product does double duty for active dogs and aging/ injured dogs. Our still feisty 15 year old Australian Shepherd ruptured his knee ligaments. He’s a bit too old for surgery and looking for a good support solution was a rabbit hole until we found this harness. At first it was perfect. About a week in, the bare webbing chaffed his hind leg raw. His back leg is still healing from the merciless chaffing he got from these webbing loops. This was a great purchase, my pit Duke is comfortable when he wears this harness and it supports his whole body. He is getting older so his hips aren’t doing super great and the old harness I had wasn’t supporting his hips at all! This harness however can support him fully! I don’t understand why other people are saying that they wish there was buckles or buttons for the straps instead of having to manually strap in their dogs, I think that having buckles or buttons would make this harness less durable, having to manually strap him in feels a lot more sturdy and I’m not scared of a plastic buckle or button breaking off when he pulls or when I take him up and down the steep stairs of my apartment building! I do wish it had a traditional hook for a leash. I had to get a carabiner to attach a leash to the harness. I realize it's intended use and it has spots to attach rope, but even if we were using it for it's intended use, I would imagine there are still moments where some people may use a leash?? Maybe not, anyhow the carabiner worked, just an extra step initially. As for sizing, I got Medium. My dog is a 62lb lab mix. His measurements were just at the cusp of med-large, but more toward medium so thats what I went with. It mostly fits well. There is one single strap that is a bit short and doesn't go any longer than I have it. It's the strap that goes from the underside chest pad to the neck straps. I can make the neck straps longer but it doesnt really make a difference. If that one strap was just a bit longer I think it would be perfect. I think my dog is comfortable with harness for the time he wears it (two walks a day) but if I were to leave it on him all day, it would be tight around that area. The rest of the harness fits perfect so i would imagine the large would be been a bit too big for him. Considering I take it off between walks, that minor sizing issue isn't a deal breaker for us. If he wore the harness for hours at a time (or for it's intended use) then I think it would pose a comfort issue. So just consider that if your dog is also on the cusp of sizing.

We purchased this item to use to help get our big 55lb Aussie down into our storm cellar during tornado warnings and BOY DID WE ALREADY NEED IT. We are safe, and so is our furry friend!! The steps of our tornado shelter are very steep and behind a tall metal guard frame, so even and our spry 1.5 year old cannot maneuver them. This harness is a life saver, literally. I bought him a good harness but he excaped from it twice and both times i was very worried he would get hit by a car. Something had to be done to secure him in his harness. this harness has back straps for the rear legs and he cannot back out of it.It is worth every penny of the $120. The only reason I gave it four stars is it is a pain to install. If you have a dog that will not stand still this would take a long time to get it on. That being said once it is installed CORRECTLY, he/she will not be able to back out of it!! it does not use cheap plastic buckles which are easy to snap together but they could break under pressure.
