I love this life jacket! We have had several in the past as although my dog is a capable swimmer we like to take him out on the ocean where the water can get choppy. We also play in the pool which doesn't have steps out, so a life jacket means we can play longer as he gets tired. He never wants to stop!Harry is 35lbs and fairly lean/fit, so it's hard to find jackets/harnesses that go narrow enough. This one seems comfortable, and doesn't hinder him swimming!Love the bright color, the durable fabric and strong handle. It also has a point under the handle to clip a leash. The chest and belly are adjustable, but we didn't need to adjust it. He's hasn't tried to take it off and doesn't resist having it put on. We love the Float Coat Life Jacket as does our European Golden Retriever 14 week puppy.We have a pool and we will be taking him to the beach so water safety is essential.The instructions included were rather lacking, but we found great videos on Internet.After my wife fitted him, we allowed him to acclimate to the vest in the house and yard with numerous treats until he was confortable wearing it… we then spent two days teaching him were the steps were for access and egress. My wife was always in the pool with him while I initially lowered him to the top step. The third day he began swimming two feet distances always returning to the top step. Water safety and love of swimming is our goal, thus building our puppy’s confidence is essential.

The Ruffwear PFD, however, is very generously sized and what I would call a true medium. It can be altered to fit both a Pittie-Dalmation cross with a large chest but small waist and an English cocker spaniel who is now rather sausage shaped. We have tested the PFD out in both fresh and salt water, and the large handle makes it easy to haul the dog aboard in both choppy seas and smooth lake waters. It fits comfortably on both size dogs, and one even wanted to wear it after she got off the boat and came home. This float jacket is thick and sturdy. It does only adjusts around the abdomen though, the hole for the head does not adjust. Getting the right fit is the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I tried it on a mini aussie but it did not fit (about 20-25lbs). He just fell out of it but. I suppose he could be considered a small mini aussie. It would be best suited for a wider barreled pup. My mix breed medium size pup (30lbs) fits in it nicely, he is larger around than the mini aussie. I have a medium jacket and believe it could accommodate larger dogs than I would consider medium size because of the length of the jacket and the adjustable straps around the abdomen. I love the handle on the back. What a cool idea; a life vest to help keep my pup afloat in the water.
The float coat was a perfect and comfortable fit for Dakota. A major concern I had before purchasing a life vest was if I could find one that fit well and comfortable enough for Dakota, as she is pretty deep-chested and structurally thin; it's always pretty difficult to find gear that fits her well. The float coat fit perfectly going of the size guide, and was very adjustable which accommodates perfectly. You can tell it is constructed with quality material and intention. I appreciate the more athletic fit to this vest, as it is not too bulky and does not impede on Dakota's ability to swim, run, jump, or any movement. It seems to have decent buoyancy, it does the intended job.

The 2 sides of the front adjustable areas overlap each other and hide the secure strap so there is nothing for the dog to catch on or chew on. My dog is very comfortable in it; just didn't love getting his picture taken without getting to get in the water and test it out at that time! He weighs 38 lbs for size comparison. This life jacket is a medium. I loaned it to a friend's 50 lb dog to test out on her first jet ski trip. They love it and immediately ordered one for themselves. Overall, this is a fabulous Dog Life Jacket, I can't imagine anything that could be better!

I was unable to pull my dog back into my kayak because of the lack of a 2nd back handle. My $35 Amazon life vest has 2 handles and I’ve always been able to pull him in when needed. The ruffwear also appeared slouchy after wet and the buckles are hard to tighten. I have same issue with their dog pack. The straps are ridiculously hard to tighten down. My dog did float! I love the vest material and how big it is. But I hope ruffwear takes this feedback and makes adjustments. I think this could be a really solid dog vest…. I first tried one from a cheaper brand bc it was the only thing available in store and I wanted to take my dog paddle boarding the same day. the cheaper jacket slid around on my 10 lb skinny terrier and it was really bulky on him. although he didn't fully escape from it, he got about halfway out while in the water. he can't really swim so I knew I needed something that fit better and more securely and I ordered this option from ruffwear.
