I thought with what I believed were recent updated to this harness it was more safe and believed it passed the safety standards for car crashes, but being "tested" is not the same as passing. My mistake. I now have these harnesses I just purchased and now I feel I can't use them. I already have the ones approved, but was looking for an option that would be more comfortable which these are, but at the cost of safety. So then what. The problem is, they can still get hurt as their heard and body will move forward due to the low connection point. There is also the concern of the connection point breaking. Frustrating. It is a nice harness, but while I thought I did my due diligence watching their videos, I still feel mislead.

The Load Up Dog Car Harness in size M fits my tall 65-lb labradoodle extremely well. He finds it comfortable and I like that the wide chest piece extends way down his belly to spread the forces more safely. We have no trouble putting the harness on even though you have to put the dog’s head and one leg through it. The harness fits fine with my dog’s collar on, so I can use a leash to walk Becket to/from the car. (The harness does not have a leash ring.) The challenge we found, because Becket is pretty tall (27” at the withers), is hooking the harness to the seat belt — it was a pain to wrestle the seat belt through that loop every time. Not sure if that was operator error (more likely) or if Becket depressed the tabs somehow while twisting around. Bottom line: I definitely recommend this well-fitting harness.

I wanted to love this Load Up harness as much as I love all the other Ruffwear products I own but it missed the mark a little. Positives are the quality. The harness itself is incredibly sturdy, the fabric is thick, well constructed and comfortable and the metal buckle is heavy duty. You’re dog will absolutely be secure in your vehicle with this harness. Downsides are things not included in what is suppose to be an updated model. I’d love it if it had two metal buckles in the back instead of one as easy of use is kind of terrible. Pulling my dog in and out of the harness is harder to do when you have to tuck there front right leg to put on or remove the harness. It is awkward, uncomfortable to do and my dog hates putting it on for this reason alone. I currently use the Flagline harness for my dog with mobility issues to assist her getting in and out of my car without putting any extra strain on her knee. We also go on many road trips and having a leash attachment would be safer for bathroom breaks. I still gave it three stars on quality alone despite the fact having a lift handle and leash attachment is so important for us. Not having those on it while also being more difficult to put on with only one buckle has prevented me from using the Load Up for every single car ride as I have to constantly switch out of it for harnesses that work better for our needs. I hope Ruffwear listens to customers who love and use there products daily and continue to make improvements to this harness as I think it can be perfect one day.
I love it. Two out of four of my dogs have one, it’s great for folks who have cars that aren’t big enough for a crash tested kennel. I was a bit worried about the buckles but it is by far the easiest Ruffwear harness to adjust and put on.However, there’s only one color way, and there is no where to put a dog tag, so it’s not great for folks who have multiple dogs, because it’s hard to tell whose harness is whose. This is why I probably won’t be replacing my other two’s safety harnesses with this.
This is a well designed harness for keeping my dogs safe. I'm glad we have them. But I agree, they are a challenge to get fitted the first time, wish they came in different colors to help know which one fits each dog and wish there was a loop for attaching a leash. Lastly, since these harnesses are intended for use inside a car, there's no need to recess the buckles, they can be a challenge for arthritic hands. The harnesses are great for safety, now make them a little more user friendly and you have a 5 star product.
Maybe the harness works well for calm, serene dogs who sit or lie down peacefully for a car ride. But not my dog who is a nervous rider and won’t sit still. She constantly got tangled up in the harness and the seatbelt, which added to her anxiety. Unfortunately this expensive harness can’t be returned once the product tag is removed. Another negative- there is no loop for attaching a leash so the harness wouldn’t have to be removed for rest breaks. I wanted to like this harness, but it just doesn’t work for us.
This is perfect for peace of mind. I needed something we could use easily in a sedan with some crash-testing and the safety videos really gave me confidence in the product. The size small fits my 40 lb border collie / heeler puppy. She can lay down, sit up, and look around without any issue. It adds 3-4 minutes to getting in and out of the car to put her in this, snap in, and then change into her walking or hiking harness. It can be annoying sometimes but it's well worth the safety if you don't have room in your car for a crash-tested kennel.

We don’t use a harness for walking our dog so it was primarily for travelling. He has always been very good in the car so was too tempting to just leave him as he was but having read various articles about safety, we decided to look for a crash tested harness. Very easy to slip on and off once you get the initial adjustments done and you definitely get better at it with practice! YouTube videos were really useful. Advice about choosing smaller size if on the cusp of two sizes was spot on as plenty room for adjustment to make bigger. Whilst this one is perfect and does not need removed for short stops during a journey to allow our dog to relieve himself, it has no D ring to attach a lead (it is not sold as a walking harness which is clearly stated in the product info) and is quite big for freedom of movement when running about so a combined harness would be perfect to avoid the need to remove before running about on a long walk/run around. A brilliant car travelling harness which fits our dog perfectly.

Fits nicely and the dog sleeps happily in the car in his seat rather than dangerously “surfing” and wandering up front while I drive- it’s night and day in terms of safety for all.
