Got the Sourcebook for Christmas 2020! It provides a mythic background for your Glorantha adventures. In this world, furthermore, that mythic story can become a new story for your PC's to inhabit, to explore, to change. Also, in a game where religion is SO important to your PC's, being able to tell them stories about of their patron gods and / or goddesses is really a must.
I'm brand new to Runequest. I was looking for some more information beyond what was included in the slipcase set. This Sourcebook is a true sourcebook. There are no RPG stats contained within. It is all culture and history. This book is jam-packed with information and beautiful art. If you are looking for something that is mid-way between the Corebook and the humongous Guide to Glorantha, this is your jam.

This book puts the depth and breadth of the world of Glorantha on display. It would be a treat to read even if you never play RuneQuest. The illustrations are beautiful and the information collected here is a symphony of fluff about the world your PCs inhabit from the history of key places and peoples to the underpinnings of Gloranthan magic. The cover blurb notes it collects out print material as well. There's a ton of material to read and absorb, whether you are a player or GM. What you won't find is lots of new game materials like spells, classes, or mechanics unless you are a GM and planning to include some of the locations and/or people in your upcoming games. So this isn't an expansion or sourcebook in the way you might expect if you are coming from a more typical fantasy RPG system like D&D or Pathfinder. If there's a criticism, it's that there's a ton of material here neatly organized and collated for you. But unless you have a specific need, there's no obvious place to begin. That is, nothing really says, "Start here." and the sheer mass and detail of material to read is a bit intimidating. If you are a RQ GM, this is (or will be soon) quite necessary to your game. If you are a RQ player, it's much more optional. To be be clear, it's not an "Advanced Player Guide" or "Spellcaster Sourcebook". It is a well-written, lavishly illustrated love letter to Glorantha that provides a treasure trove of information to add those essential game details that make RQ feel alive and truly mythic.
This is pure Gloranthan bliss. Delightful. Beautiful artwork. Sensibly laid out to explain pretty much anything you'd like to know about the histories of Dragon Pass, the countries and cultures of Sartar and the Lunar Empire. Brief but useful histories of the deities. I hadn't played Runequest for years and I have been blown away by this latest offering and the Roleplaying in Glorantha book it accompanies. If you are a Runequest veteran I am sure you'll love it. If you've never played Runequest, buy the new stuff and you'll grow to love it.
