Previous experience has led me to doubt the claims of most battery powered line trimmer manufacturers. This one really does do the job and is as good as any petrol whipper snipper without all the hassle of getting and mixing petrol and oil. I saw some reviews indicating that the battery doesn't last too long but I found it was perfect as it usually ran out just when I needed a break. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a shoulder strap and no obvious connection, if you bought one separately (despite the picture in the manual shows someone using a strap)

I just bought this expand it trimmer kit, but why do these makers call it a kit, because it has a battery, NO extended side guard as Troy said, No shoulder harness to help with 4.7kg of weight for extended use. Aldi Ferrex petrol model had hedge trimmer, pole chain saw, straight & curved pole extensions, blower attachment, lawn edger attachment with same shaft drive set up, now that’s a kit.

Have a 4 stroke brushcutter which works well but I'm getting older and want a product thats lighter and less maintenance. Battery powered these days is powerful and reliable and little maintenance , just a blow over with compressed air and battery back on charge, this is a great unit! But the bump head nylon cutter string outlet is way too high to thebump head bottom, this causes the head angle to be awkward in a lot of positions, especially directly in front of you. Must been designed with little testing! Otherwise, Ok.

I have a 580m2 section I will be building a house on, and I need to maintain the lawns. A lawn mower would just be ruined due to all the rocks and cement hidden in the grass (it's literally a construction site). This weed eater is good, easy to use, comfortable to hold, quiet. But, the 2ah battery doesn't do the 700m2 it says it does on the box, nowhere near it.
It is exceptionally quiet compared to my last trimmer and doesn't leak fuel down your leg which I find a bonus. I can really hear my classical 90s techno over it without having to crank the headphones up too high.I bought it to replace the 2 stroke Ryobi that I bought last century which served us well. The battery has a reasonable life and on a hot day I am certain I will be wishing it to run out faster. Charge time is about a tinny and is a very handy safety feature at that.Bright yellow means I will not lose it in the shed of doom.
Very happy, Bought this for a 1200sqm block, super powerful, way better then I expected. Bump feed works a charm, battery says Upto 20 minutes and I get a full 15/20 minutes on full charge, which allows me to whip my front and back with no issues. First test was on grass thick and stalky longer then 40 c/m tall, had no issues at all. Only thing I would recommend is a second battery for bigger yards for a quick swap over. Otherwise it only takes an hour or so to fully charge.
I bought this line trimmer only to find that the way its designed sticks and stone and loads and loads of grass flick up at you when you use it, so much so that i returned the item. After explaining it to the return counter (great service by staff member BTW) we went to the area to take a look. After a lot of looking at codes and boxes we discovered that they had replaced the previous model with a new version. This new version doesn't have the extra side guard. Even on the box its missing with screw holes still there. But the demo model which was the old model had the extra guard.Luckily they 1 old model left so i swapped it over.Pretty poor of Ryobi to remove a required safety feature and hope no one notices.See pictures of with and without.
Firstly it has enough power and does the job, but that's where it ends.Motor gets so hot on hit days, it burns your elbow.Plus has to be the dumbest design.in the world, it spins the wrong way. So you get covered in grass and any foreign material like rocks or sticks also come at you. The guard is in the wrong spot to protect you as well. If it span the other way then guard would be fine but it doesn't.I'm returning it tommorow.
Purchased about 8 months ago after the petrol version started leaking from the fuel tank. Decided to give the 36v battery version a go. Small property of 527m2 and includes rocks between house and fence on side boundary, so less area to trim. Unit is very nice to use and I havent much to complain about with use for around the home general use cases.BUT!First use managed to trim all edges on 3 sides of house, driveway and street front. Second use required recharge before completing same area. Third use required recharging twice. FOR THE SAME AREA!Do these batteries die that quick? I get its a 2Amh battery, but come on. At this rate ill need 3 batteries to complete the lawn. Please improve battery. This is atrocious.
My shed is full of Ryobi tools, mainly because of the interchangeable batteries. Of all my tools this unit is totally useless, unless you want it to do exactly what the single cord, 18V unit can do for a lot less money. The 2mm cord is too thin to make an impression on the tufts of grass and snaps off if you hit anything solid such as a paver or brick edge. The cord then retracts inside the spool so you have to pull the whole thing apart so you can feed the cord back out.The "Bump Knob" system is not the best system out there today.I'm a great fan of the wireless tools and the interchangeable system is the best, however Ryobi will need to improve its game if it wants to compete with the petrol wipper snipper tools.
