This Angle Grinder was a replacement for one that had stopped working. I thought it was about 5-6 years old so was quite pleased with how long it had lasted. On further investigation it turns out I had had the previous one for over TEN years!! So needless to say, that considering the amount of use it had been put through and the various materials it had been used on (metal, plastic, stone, concrete, brick, limestone you name it and I have cut or ground it) I am totally satisfied with it and the numerous other Ryobi 18V ONE+ and the 36V tools and equipment I have purchased.

This is my first grinder. It was bought to cut up bricks for paved walkway. It was very easy to use for a beginner. Other reviews mentioned it's quite weighty, but honestly I found the weight helped keep it steady and less likely to run away. The moveable handle was great for changing angles, but I do wish it had the disc removal tool storage offered on a previous version. The grinder lasted ages powered by a 5ah battery, but with the 2.5ah it was dead within about 3 bricks, so a larger battery would be ideal. At $115 for the grinder skin this was a steal.

Great tool, a must for all DIY' s

My hesitation in buying one of these, concerned that it might not be powerful enough, was diminished very soon; worth the money and very powerful grinder; the size is perfect for home projects and easy to put together, another Ryobi success, in my opinionThe weight is about right and very easy to use; multiple handle positions comes very handy, as is the position of the safety guard

Ever since Bunnings first came to Cairns all those years ago, i bought my first Ryobi battery drill from them. I have never looked back n absolutely love Ryobi brand. Since then, i have bought many skins n package's so i have drills, saw's, grinders, battery packs, jigsaws, sanders n router's. For a weekend warrior they get used n abused n there up to any job or workload i put these great tools through. Best of all is the length of warranty on these n as long as you keep your docket, no questions asked, the are replaced. Yes, i have had to replace a tool here n there, but they were outside of their warranty, six years plus of weekend abuse, i wont buy anything other than Ryobi. Won me over all those years ago. This Grinder Avoids The Usual Cord Tangle
19 January 2023

I already had an electric grinder but every time I want to use it outside I have to find an extension lead, untangle it and then plug in. Then it constantly gets caught if you need to constantly move around the work. When I needed to work on a boat trailer I decided to buy the basic Ryobi One Angle Grinder to work on rust so I would have the flexibility of movement that comes with battery operation. This unit, whilst small in size and weight, is still powerful enough to do light to medium grinding jobs - I'd suggest two four amp hour swappable batteries for anything more than small jobs (which I already owned). All in all very happy with the tool and recommended.

Too weak for any metals, ok with a sanding disc on wood.
24 January 2023

I grabbed this for cutting aluminium sheets and trimming steel bolts. I also grabbed a sanding disc for rough finishing wood.Sadly I found this was quite useless at anything but rough finishing wood. It stopped while trying to trim down a steel screw I was using to hang a picture in a brick wall. It got hung up in the aluminium quite quickly and was never going to be able to trim a steel bolt.I am not sure if it's just really gutless or if I had a dud, but I returned it to Bunnings and upgraded to the more expensive brushless model which is satisfactory.

Value for money

This non-brushless angle grinder works well and is value for money. Compared to the cost of the brushless version (I have both), it is only ~45% of the price.Power: no noticeable difference between the two, but neither as powerful when grinding hard as a corded version.... but battery power angle grinders are still my go-to ones and have more than enough grunt for 99% of jobs.Size: The non-brushless is notably longer and this occasionally restricts being able to get into tight spots, no big deal but rates a mention. The brushless is slightly lighter and this becomes noticeable when doing multiple cuts one handed.Discs: The non-brushless is 115mm vs the brushless at 125mm, probably to make up for the slightly less power. The brushless is slightly lighter and this becomes noticeable when doing multiple cuts one handed.Discs: The non-brushless is 115mm vs the brushless at 125mm, probably to make up for the slightly less power. The smaller disc marginally restricts depth of cut but has no impact for grinding. I keep flapper grinding discs on the non-brushless and it does this job well.Battery life: The non-brushless has a lower battery life, I reckon the advertised 30% less is about right. Still has a good life on a 5Ahr battery, still works well on a 2Ahr but with more frequent changes. No big deal if you have multiple batteries.Switch: My biggest gripe, but also handy at times!! The non-brushless cannot be locked on, needs a hand to hold in the safety bar and a finger on the switch. When I change hand position is shuts off (as expected) and takes a second or so to wind back up to speed. The brushless has a single lock-on switch and stays on until switched off, great for swapping hand position, but you then need a second hand to turn off... cumbersome if holding the job piece in your hand. So.... both switch types have advantages and dis-advantages and depends on personal preference.Disc change: The non-brushless requires a tool while the brushless is tool free. Certainly a minor advantage, but when saving 45% I can handle that!Summary: The non-brushless is excellent value for money and one can have 2 x non-brushless and some change for the cost of a single brushless. The additional features of the brushless (longer life, lighter weight, bigger disc etc...) come at a price premium.

Value for money for DIYer
19 June 2021

I own 5 electric grinders and was forever dragging cords around. I was tossing up between the makita and the ryobi as I have both battery lines. I ended up trying the Ryobi due to the price difference mainly. This is brilliant for odd jobs. It feels like its quieter, and has less power but I am yet to prove that because it definitely cuts everything for me (anything from bolts, sheet metal, rhs, tubing, etc).My only gripe is the safety switch setup. I have other grinders with this set up, but this one just feels a little weird (I can't really explain why though). It works fine, but the length and switch setup sort of makes it odd to hold sometimes. I would probably buy again, but would consider the switch which holds itself on next time.

Zero hassle
23 February 2023

So sick of setting up extensions cords to do grinding jobs. This thing is perfect for busy people that don’t want the hassle. Just grab it, bang in the battery, safety googles and hearing on and you are good to go. I have finished small jobs, packed up and got on with my day faster than what it used to take me to just set up with my plug in grinder. Absolutely game changing. Love it.
